Couturier for Kulikov

If the Avs take MacKinnon and the Panthers take Jones, would you consider a trade with Philadelphia: Sean Couturier for Kulikov?

It is a trade that has drawn interest from Philly fans and would help fill a need at center.

Discuss...

* Idea from Laus723's main board thread

advanced stats shows that couturier is one of the best young 2-way forwards in the game, and a lot of flyers says taht he'll pan out a great 2C or a decent 1C

No. Kulikov can get a better return, and dont deserves the **** he has gotten on this board for the past season.

If I would trade Kulikov it would be for an upgrade, like Bobby Ryan. Not Couturier.

Don't think I'd do that deal. To me, Couturier's numbers aren't that impressive. Don't get me wrong, he was definitely noticeable when he played against us. Perhaps I just haven't seen him enough.

Just FYI, I wanted us to grab Couturier at 3rd overall. Obviously Tallon took Huby and I think early on here that it was the right decision as I believe Huby will be the better player.

I just do not understand why Kulikov is seen as so expendable. It seems either he becomes a top 10 defenseman in the league, or he should be traded. It's absurd.

imo, kulikov has had 2 bad seasons in a row and will not be the d-man he's projected to be.

Couturier had a sophomore slump, but had terrific numbers his rookie season for playing on the fourth line and no pp time. I dont think we would trade a defenseman just yet though. I dont see the need for an immediate trade.

I would love to see Gudbranson, Kulikov, Jones & Petrovic grow on D together.

I also wonder if we don't draft MacKinnon, do we re-sign Weiss? Or is he getting re-signed regardless...

Couturier went from being very overated last year to a little understated this year. Still, if we look at this draft for example, i would select Barkov, Monahan and Lindholm over him without thinking twice.

Depends on what path Kulikov takes. If he does become the player we hope, then i value his potential contributions more than Couturier. If he doesn't, well, Couturier is the type of player in 5-6 years who you would love to have to compliment your offense in the playoffs.

I'd move Gudbranson for Couturier without thinking. Both to me lack the puck skills or that intangible swag to become impact players in the immediate future, but Gudbranson is a significantly bigger project than Couturier.

I'll give Avs 2nd to get MacKinnon. MacKinnon-Kulikov over Jones-Couturier any day

I wouldn't do it just yet even if we drafted Jones. Kuba & Jovo will be gone soon & Soupy isn't getting any younger. Keep the best young D-Core in the league if we draft Jones & go our defense first mentality for at least another season. Then either address the scoring at the trade deadline or 2014 draft/FA. I'd much rather us just draft Mac then have to deal with this issue thoough!

I don't know if I'd go that far. The #2 pick in the 2nd round is going to probably be a damn good player too as this draft is a little deeper. I would part with a 3rd rounder though.

I'd say yes if I was Florida, no if I was Philadelphia. They can get a better return for Couturier. Phoenix would give them Yandle if they dangled Couturier. I think some people on this board over value Kulikov. He's a good young defenseman, but he's not on the same level as some of the other young stud defenseman around the league (Pietrangelo, Yandle, Ekman-Larsson, Shattenkirk come to mind).

No desire to trade Kulikov. And if we were going to trade him, I think we need to get more offense coming back this way.

Yeah, the 2nd makes me wince, but I understand that if you want something you got to give to get.

Edit: Just realized we don't have a 3rd round pick this draft. I would definately not do our 2nd rounder(which is actually the first pick in the 2nd rd and not the 2nd pick) knowing we don't have a 3rd rounder this year. And if I did a 3rd rounder it would be next yrs.

Reminds me of the Preds dominant D core some years back. Mike Santos probably wouldn't mind that again.

Not saying I was for it. They were perennial contenders but usually a lock for 1st/2nd round exit. I'm 100% hoping we get Mackinnon.
