Oilers deal Gagner to Columbus, acquire Nikitin, draft picks
The Edmonton Oilers took a step forward in developing the future of their franchise while solidifying their blueline, dealing soon-to-be RFA Sam Gagner to the Columbus Blue Jackets, along with prospect Antti Tyrvaianen, while acquiring defenceman Nikita Nikitin.
"We realize Sam's value on the market, and as great a player as he is, we have a different idea of how we'd like to build this club." Oilers GM TribalPhoenix stated in a press conference today.
"In acquiring Nikita Nikitin, we've added a big body whose best years are easily ahead of him."
The Oilers also acquired the New York Rangers 1st round selection, as well as the Blue Jackets 2nd round selection.
"The depth of this draft is something we have observed for a while, and we intend to capitalize on our selections. We believe we will acquire some very good players, while also adding to our off-season plans via the free agent market."
New Jersey Devils and Phoenix Coyotes Swap Players
Two players without contracts, both technically restricted free agents. New Jersey has been interested in Tikhonov since he played with Kovalchuk during the lockout, and his KHL playoff performance cemented that desire. With his KHL contract expiring, the Devils fully intend to get him signed and with the team in training camp at the start of next season.
New Jersey also announces multiple RFA signings:
Adam Henrique: 2 years, $2.25M/year ($2.0M, $2.5M)
Jacob Josefson: 1 year, $945,000
Andrei Loktionov: 1 year, $857,500
Mike Sislo: 2 years, $654,500/year, two-way contract
Harri Pesonen: 2 years, $654,500/year, two-way contract
Keith Kinkaid: 2 years, $731,500/year, two-way contract
Mattias Tedenby: 1 year, $918,750/year
Mike Hoeffel: 2 years, $756,250/year, two-way contract

Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier are involved in a number of trades involving young, top pairing defensemen. A deal will likely be struck soon, so if you have a defenseman that fits the bill, contact us soon.
