Tampa is rather interested in Nichushkin. My bet is that they take him if he's available.

We will be getting who ever falls to us.

My question is, does Nashville take Drouin or Barkov.

Today I am leaning:

Barkov > Nichushkin > Drouin for us to pick.

I have read alot of Tampa Bay Boards and I believe there picking Drouin. I think the Nischuskin talk was just a smoke screen if somehow they do take Nischuskin I see Nashville taking Barkov. That is there pick no doubt. If Drouin falls to 5 that would be fantastic since he has been my pick all along. I just dont see that happening, and I see us getting Nichuskin which I am fine with. but him with Jordan and Ruttu and we have a HUGE second line. Now lets get Doug Murray and a brusier for the 3rd or 4th line, and I will be happy!

Why would anyone listen to fans of a team when trying to figure out who they'll draft?

Well, truth be told, they generally have a better feel for the direction the team might be leaning then anybody other then the beat writers and people within the organization.

I think if you asked five posters on here who the Canes would pick if they had the #3 pick (assuming Jones and MacKinnon were gone), you'd get at least two, and probably three different answers. As an example.

Hypothetically, if a team thinks you want Nichushkin, and they want Nichushkin, they would trade up to be in front of you, and pick Nichushkin.

Similarly, saying you want Nichushkin, and not who you really want would lead a team to believe they don't need to move up to take 'not nichushkin'

Both scenarios having the result of you benefiting from misleading others about your intentions.

So any info on who wants what 'for reals' should be pretty convoluted, and filled with lies.

I honestly think, whether we pick 3 or 5 or maybe even 7, we take Nichushkin in all three scenarios. And I don't think I'm alone in my thinking.

Just saw something about nichushkin doing horrible at the combine. I don't mean being weak, I mean bad attitude. Quitting tests. Gare Joyce twitter? Anyone got a link? Sounded not particularly promising.

This is what I found while first looking through:

Gare Joyce ‏@GareJoyceNHL 1h
Re Nikushkin: Sr scouts all laughed. Sez 1 "Don't remember worse combine. Quit tests, brutal intervu. Shame. as talented." #NHL #draft

Yeah, Nich has (apparently) always had that issue. Super talented and can be a gamebreaker...when he tries. But too cocky for his own good and could have lockerroom issues.

For every comparison to Malkin or Semin, there's also that comparison to Radulov. Makes me wary about grabbing him.

Those same things have also been said about Semin, for better or worse.

If there's any truth to this, now we're thinking that our gm - Jim Rutherford - is going to use a top 5 pick on a Russian who won't stay in North America unless he makes it immediately in the nhl and has shown an inkling of needing an attitude adjustment?

There's no way in any universe that the jr we've known in the last 15 years would touch that. He has shown himself to be a little different over the last couple of years so obviously anything is possible.

All I'm saying I guess is that I'd be very surprised if jr would do this. I'm also saying I don't want this to be our pick. Not because of just this, it's the whole picture. I'm not sold on the kid or his game. Ill be a fan if we take him, but ill be relieved if someone else does first.

If the reports are true, I'll have to agree that I don't see JR grabbing him at this point. I'm OK with a cocky attitude and brutal interviews due to a language barrier, but quitting tests? There's no reason for that when you're guaranteed nothing. I think the comparisons to Semin in that regard are off-base as well.

What exactly is "quitting" tests? I thought the tests they did were max output types, not timed ones.

No in general. I was referring to comparisons to Semin. Some suggest he can be the best player in the world when he feels like it.

Oh, yes no doubt. It's been said about him as he's gone along, it took years for semin to become the polarizing figure he has become. I wasn't sure about nichushkin without any hint of this stuff, just makes it that much more of a risk. Nothing ventured nothing gained though, you have to swing for the fences sometimes.

The Top 3 North American players didn't even do the tests. So.... there's that.

Yeah, but I agree with you. Russian with attitude issues and a pick that JR absolutely can't miss on? Not a chance he picks him (assuming the combine stuff is true). Unless he forgets who and where he is on draft day ofcourse.

From uweekly.com, June 5th:

"The biggest story of the combine was likely Russian right-winger Valeri Nichushkin, who wowed scouts with his strength and fitness testing. Nichushkin is likely to come off the board anywhere between No. 4 and No. 10. Nichushkin, the second-ranked European skater, has stated he will play in the Russian KHL if he doesn't make an NHL roster out of training camp, giving some teams pause."

http://uweekly.com/article/cbj-and-n...ep-draft-6267/

And the general consensus 4 guys ahead of him all skipped ALL tests at the combine, didn't they?
