Didn't like the way Nichuskin just quit out on the VO2 Max. Show of character right there. Noticed this in some of the games I've seen of him too, gets mad and flustered when stuff doesn't go his way. Still an electric prospect though.

Whats Nichuskin's score on the vo2 max compared to Mac, Droun and Jones?

She added some of her own here and there and seemed like struggle a little to put thoughts into words from English to Russian and vice versa. If she is a pro translator I think she should be more precise and confident.

Some of his answers:

- There was a contract, and now it is gone. I was let go on a condition if I won't make the NHL I would come back to Russia.

- I do understand them (their concerns). The trust towards Russian players took a hit a little bit because many players don't come over here. I don't take example from most. I want to come here very much and I explained it to everyone that I will.

she kind of added a few of her own words you might say.

For example:
When he was asked about the whole whether he will come to NHL...she said that "he feels he is ready to play in NHL". However, he never said that at all in Russian. He only spoke about how some Russians do end up not coming to NHL but he is not like those Russians. He said he understands why NHL teams worry about Russians not coming to NHL.

So she just didnt go word for word at times...not horrible, but also not a great job. I dont think its her job to add her own words.

Mac, Drouin, and Jones all skipped the physical test. According to the blog they were all sleep deprived and exhausted from the memorial cup final and have traveled heavily since then.

Translator - I know Russian and she did not exactly go word by word...I could have done a better job

GMs could see that as a HUGE positive for Nichushkin.....i.e. a kid who's very underdeveloped in many areas, yet still totally dominates his peers physically on the ice.

******** excuses. If they expect that they are chosen as nr.1 in the draft they shouldn't have any complaints with some more physical exercise.

I think the combine was held in Mississauga in the same place they have the sports card/memoribilia expo.

I shoulda gone, I know you can get a tonne of autographs there though the problem is that most of these juniors don't have hockey cards printed for them so you have to get index cards signed which is boring or make customs which takes too much time. Also you'd have to wait outside in the heat as I'm fairly sure the general public isn't allowed in but hockey autograph hounds don't seem to mind.

Or see it as he might not be ready for NHL...in which case he said he will go back to KHL.

Hard to figure this guy out so far...but he will still probably go top 10.

Nichushkin said before this week he didn't train for the tests or care about them.

http://en.rsport.ru/interview/20130523/663802581.html
Quote:
-Youíve said you are flying to New York on Thursday. You're going to spend several days there before the NHL scouting combine in Toronto?

"Yes, on Saturday, I'll attend a football match between Man City and Chelsea at Yankees Stadium. Then, I'll fly to Toronto where I'll talk to [NHL] teams for four days. For the next two days I'll do the physical tests."

- Have you prepared for them?

"No, I've done nothing."

- Why?

"I want to come to the season in top shape. I don't train so I won't complain about fatigue during the season. To be honest, I donít care about these tests. Itís more important for me to talk to the teams. That's my only goal."

It's always hard to tell with the draftees that don't speak English as a first language, but I read that as "I'm not training for a pointless test, I'll do my training for the season". Although I totally see how it could be read the other way too, in which case yeah, it makes little sense

When did his season finish? The body needs to rest. For the NHL (starting end of Oct), you'd want to start your training about the start of July IMO

yeah, some of the comments seem to be lost in translation.

it simply looks like he understands that teams are more worried about the Russian factor than his physical fitness tests.

I'm curious to see what Jordan Subban is these days. He had a great season looking at stats alone, but he's still listed at a pretty petite 5'9 on hockeydb. Too small to be a factor as a defenseman? It'd be nice to see if he's grown an inch or two more this year, or at least gotten a little more husky.

Brian Campbell, Kimmo Timonen, and Lubomir Visnovsky all have something to say about being "too small to be a factor."

I don't think he did that bad, many guys don't finish and throw up to boot. At least he gave it a go, unlike the top three prima donnas - jones forgiven for injury I believe? I think not even trying is worse. Nich' also played a full season and also playoff games, had to travel overseas to take the test which was probably nothing like he's ever experienced before. I'll give him a pass on something the top three wouldn't even try to do because they think they don't NEED to do it to secure their spot. PIFF!

The thing is all these kids practice all these tests with they're own camp and etc ahead of time. So it's not exactly an accurate indication of how they are normally in a hockey season or even regular off season.

So someone like him that didn't bother to practice all these test, it's normal if he didn't do as well as others. I won't take much stock into that.

HOWEVER, I would like a better translation about him either not working out during off season to be not fatigue during the season. That could be cause for concern if he doesn't work out/etc during off season because he doesn't want to be fatigued during the season. Since the whole point of working out/conditioning/specific diet over the summer is to improve your strength/stamina/endurance/etc during the season along with getting better.
