Sharks Offseason

Our best chance at winning the cup with this current team may have just passed. Our star players Marleau, Thornton, Boyle, etc are getting older and some are declining in play. It should be an interesting offseason and I wouldn't be surprised to see some big changes to "refresh" the team and start building around Couture, Burns, Vlasic, etc.

Any trade suggestions or speculation on what could be a crazy offseason?

The old declining players along with Niemi were your best players. I understand you don't want a Calgary situation where you wait too long and get nothing back but they aren't the problem. The terrible bottom 6 is the problem

What do you want from the Canucks for either Pavelski or Marleau?

A young top 6 forward with high end potential most likely.

Havlat and Boyle, what would you guys give up for him?

Which was somewhat a problem with coaching and then the NHL screwing us over with Torres. The line-up would normally be:
Galiardi-Thornton-Burns
Havlat-Couture-Marleau
Wingels-Pavelski-Torres
Desi-Burish-Sheppard

What would it take to get Boyle to Edmoton? Or Thornton to edmonton?

Honestly, I would rather trade them to a team in the east so we wouldn't face them much.

I dont see you guys moving Boyle just yet, same with Thornton.

Marleau on the other hand... but I dunno what he'd even fetch. Best bet would be to try and deal a few of those guys at the deadline, not the off-season, because his value just dropped after being totally invisible.

I'm not a Sharks fan, but I really don't expect huge changes from SJ. I could see Havlat getting moved, and possibly Boyle, but I think guys like Thornton and Marleau will still be there next year.

For Thornton probably your 1st this year+. For Boyle a 2nd+decent/good prospect.

No goals from the bottom 6 in 11 games. Not going to win anything with that.

Couture to the Kings for nothing. You owe us a 3rd line center.

You are 100% right. Thornton, Boyle, and Marleau were much better than Pavelski or Couture. Couture didn't score a single goal at even strength.

However, that was our last opportunity.

Trade Boyle and Thornton, try to get anything you can for Havlat, see if anyone's willing to overpay for Pavelski, hell, make Burns available. Hold on to Marleau (unless he agrees to be traded and you get a good deal), Stuart (NTC, veteran leader), Couture, Vlasic, Braun, and Niemi. Make anyone else available.

That is the part that makes me sad.. The "chokers" played some of the best playoff hockey they ever had. But you have to start over. I doubt that Marleau, Thornton, and Boyle can keep up the level of play they did this year. I'd consider trading Pavelski too and try to get rid of Havlat. Keep everyone else.

This. PEOPLE the Sharks are not trading their young players. Pavelski, Couture, Burns, Vlasic... they're not going anywhere.

This team this year seemed to me like a halfway point. The young guys are coming into their own. This team also had a completely crap bottom six. Give Doug Wilson an offseason to fix that now that he's rid of some of the dead weight and I think this team will be good next year. He didn't get all those picks at the deadline for nothing. And as much as I want him to draft some youth into the system, I also trust him to use them to leverage something good to help this team next year.

If they could get a top 6 winger to play with Couture and Marleau so that Pavelski could center the third line, it would solve a ton.

I COMPLETELY disagree with you TheJuxtaposer. And I doubt Sharks management agrees either.

Sharks need to add, they can't screw around with this roster. Add a young top-6 forward with draft picks/prospects, don't trade away Boyle/Thornton/Marleau/etc.

Yup, this. All the 'Sky is Falling' Sharks fans are gonna come proposing that they trade everyone. It's just not gonna happen, nor should it. Other fans can see it. Sharks fans are just in self loathing and depression mode right now.
