I got the update on my phone around 2 and jumped for joy at work. This is the best news Ive heard in weeks! Thank you Sather.

Now please get rid of Sullivan as well and hire somebody who knows hockey. Too bad the Avs got Patrick Roy I think he could have done a nice job for us.

I love the "Blame Sather" crowd.

As if its the GM's fault Torey Krug turned into Doug Wilson and Ryan Callahan turned in Stan Smyl, and the penalty kill for three weeks mirrored the 1990 Nordiques.

This young roster is fine.

He probably means spoonfed minutes in Ohio.

My biggest complaint about Sather is that I don't feel he's done enough to bolster the team for playoff runs. He seems content to make the playoffs, have the Garden full a few nights in the spring and see what happens.

But yea, those 2 goals he scored in the playoffs sure have convinced me he is a stud.

And Im not saying Brassard is a terrible player, im saying he is a 3rd line center. Gaborik was traded for a 3rd line center, a 4th line bum, and a Dman who could be good.
at his salary, gaborik is not a good value. before the salary cap, he's a good guy to have. but at his salary, he's too costly. it was a good trade, and one that had to be done.

Marc Crawford is interested. Search is over.
He's the missing piece to the puzzle.

Isn't that what it means? My parents made me work for every spoonful of food they gave me.

Brassard is easily a top 6 center, no questions asked. If anyone disagrees provide me with a list of 60 better centers than him.

They expected to make the cup finals this year. They won 1 game in round 2. This season was a failure in that regard.

However, if we hire someone who will tolerate some odd man rushes against to allow for some skating and flow, this roster (with a few replacements) will flourish.
Both Renney and Torts had to change their coaching tactics to suit the teams built by Sather. The teams Sather built were filled with fringe NHLers and very few guys with offensive talent. Right now, Tom Renney is an assistance coach for one of the best puck possession teams in hockey, the Detroit Red Wings. Torts before played in an open system in TB.

Trade deadline acquisitions:

Brassard: Increased his production when he came to NYR. Kept it going through the playoffs. Top scorer in the postseason for the Rangers. In both the regular season AND the playoffs, he was at about a point per game; far exceeding anything he has produced in his career.

Clowe: Also increased his production when he came to NYR. More than doubled his point pace from when he was playing with SJS earlier in the season. This continued until he was injured.

Dorsett: Didn't play until the playoffs. Didn't do much, but wasn't an offensive dynamo before either.

Moore: Plays defense. But also got involved in scoring in the few games he played here.

So, uh what? Stop with this ******** please.
good argument. You say never in his tenure and then present as evidence this year's deadline with two players who can't be used as evidence due to injury and position. Well done.

Well said.

Bring this debate to the Offseason thread or something, it has nothing to do with Torts.

This means Cally and Girardi can play 5 extra years, instead of playing Russian roulette with every shot they block

I don't get that vibe ... I get the feeling he wants to retain as much of his young productive talent as possible.

The Rangers asked Torts to change his style. Bring on an assistant for the PP. Torts refused or management didn't believe he would change. That's what usually happens. Torts is too stubborn. Some of that probably happened here. The players got sick of him. They told management.

Shall I continue? And I know this is going to come back as "well brassard is still young and developing" as if 26 year old players all of a sudden become great all the time.
No not really, it's going to come back to "you don't understand so why try explain it to you".

No **** those players have had long and solid careers, that's why I used them as examples. They were still in the top 10 in points for centers with under 20 goals. So you know, there is more to the game than just that. Using big name players to really drive the point didn't work apparently.

In his second full season as an NHLer. Then the next year he put up 41 points. Then the year after that, this year, he put up a total of 41 points in 59 games played between the playoffs and the regular season.

Also, didn't Datsyuk first put up more than 20 goals when he was 26?

Call me crazy, but this Derick Brassard debate doesn't have much of a place here.
