Lucia has been under fire in Minnesota for a long time. He's also not highly respected around the NHL for developing players.

IMO Torts lost the players early in the year, and I'm fairly certain it started with the role players who take a beating and end up getting benched for one turnover. They regrouped a bit, but you could tell there were stretches where these guys weren't having much fun playing hockey.
I just think unless this team develops some depth, and quickly, they are in trouble. Relying on one player, or one line come playoff time will get you killed. The rangers had really no players on the 3rd or 4th lines all season that scared anyone. They have roughly 6 good offensive players, they are desperately in need of 6 more.

He also spent a large part of the season in the top 6. Dont think he got dropped to the 3rd line until the bruins series.

Sather: Hey John, Glen here..... listen, I'm afraid we're gonna have to let you go.

Torts: WHAT??!!!! You reassured me that I was safe!!

Sather: Sorry, John, safe is death.

Torts was a good coach. I personally would not have mind if he was given a full season. However, I've always been a HUGEEEEEE fan of offensive puck possession hockey; which I've seen Bowman and Babcock do with the Wings. Which I've seen Vigneault do with the Canucks.
A lot of Canuck fans will tell you that Vigneault's downfall is that he plays too safe and can't adjust in big games (playoffs) ... that is a major thing to consider.

Cant have that kind of thing.

Compared to the blackhawks, their third line was

Stalberg - 9 goals
Shaw - 9 goals
Saad - 10 goals

Really can go through any of the playoff teams, and all of them have much better talent throughout their offense than the front loaded rangers.
In the Bruins series, the Rangers lost 2 games by 1 goal and the final game by 2 (1 being an empty netter). Even a few more goals would have made a difference.

AV is great at teaching systems. He runs a good bench and doesn't burden offensive stars with lots of defensive responsibility (see the Sedins).

I also think he has a very good temperament for coaching in New York.

Due to the Oilers connections, I've always had a soft spot for the Rangers, I hope Sather hires AV for you guys.

It'd almost be a lateral move.

Not if he doesnt anger all the players, like calling out Hags in the playoffs (what a D move that was)

I just hope we hire a coach who has some creativity on offense. Some good break out schemes, emphasizes forechecking to create turnovers, a believer in puck possession and will improve on the PP.

Power play stats don't lie. I'm guessing that if you were a fan of the teams with a worse power play percentage your feelings would be the exact same.

The power play stunk. I don't blame the coach for that, though. These guys have been playing since they were 5, so they know the game.

Not a single player on the Rangers roster was any good on the point of the power play. That is not the coach's fault. That falls squarely on Mr. Sather the Nimrod's head.

Superman couldn't win us the cup, with these players.

As always, it falls on Sather.

As Melrose pointed out, earlier:

We can't compete with the lineups of Pitt, Blackhaws, Kings... and our stars didn't even show up, which makes it twice as bad.

But let's make sure we lock up Zuccarello haha UGH

Canucks fans say a lot of things. The Canucks recent playoff woes have more to do with Kesler's injuries and the Sedins pulling a disappearing act than bench management.

There are only so many adjustments you can make when your two best players are identical twins who have to play on the same line together to be even a little effective.

I think the game has changed substantially since he won the cup.

Completely shocked. Almost fell out of my chair at work upon hearing the news.

I'm not exactly convinced that a "run and gun" system would make the Rangers an immensely better team. But with Lundqvist and the speed our defense has, I would be lying if I said I wasn't curious about how it would play out.

Can you be specific?

When did it change?

How did it change?

Which coach has demonstrated to you that he is good since then?

You guys don't want AV. He is essentially a poor mans version of Torts. Guy Boucher seems ideal for you guys. But don't steal Eakins from us

It would be a downgrade. AV doesn't have any cups, and has been more disappointing in the playoffs.
