Hopefully some more goalies come out and side with Marty on this one. The equipment is getting quite ridiculous....actually, Snow's equipment has been ridiculous for years now. I still remember when he was a Flyer, he must have had shingles glued to his shoulders that year.
And Protection????
I'm still trying to figure out what part of the human anatomy that JS Gigiuere and Garth Snow are protecting above their shoulders to the left and right of their neck. I mean, I don't have anything above mine (apart from my head which is between that space), and definitely not anything that goes up to my chin.... Are they freaks of nature and have some crazy growths up there that I've never seen before? Any ideas? I'm confused????
I agree. Brodeur had a very valid complaint when he brought up the goaltender equipment. HOWEVER, I think it was uncool to single out Snow and Giguere (although the Goldorak comment was hella funny). I would have much preferred if he spent his time talking about the problem and how to fix it, instead of throwing stones.
Snow's comment was just wrong, though, no matter how you slice it. I would have had more respect for him if he just came back with "Yo mama!" Alluding to the divorce was just below the belt.
Or he could have just started a fight with him during the game. At least they'd be resolving the matter through hockey.
Martin Brodeur is overrated. faces few shots a game, and low %age ones at that. most decent goaltenders could do the equivalent or better than brodeur in the same system.
Snow: "Oh ya???? Well....well....YOU'RE getting a divorce, poopyhead!!"
Nice comeback Garth. Real good. You got him there, that's for sure.
Check that it was more like
Brodeur: "You look like the Michelin Man yuk yuk'
Snow: "Yeah well your wife blah blah blah'
If Brodeur could have made his point without the name calling I would be harder on Snow. Why shouldn't Snow reply in any way he sees fit when he is called out by name and made fun of. Just because Brodeur is a better goalie, Snow has to smile and take whatever abuse Brodeur dishes out? I have no problem with the action and reaction here.
Hey Martin, there's a reason why you don't have a single personal trophy...So shut up, JSG was better than you in play-offs so he deserved to win the Conn Smythe.
Umm... he did kinda win the Vezina trophy last year. Last I checked that was a personal trophy but... you know I'm not all that sure.

Which has nothing to do with this arguement, but if Snow had retailiated with a similar comment to yours I'd still have respect for him.
Then what was the point in stating it if it didn't. Don't talk (or post rather) unless you have something to say about it thats relevant, not just bashing Brodeur any chance you get.
brodeur bashed snow w/ the first chance he got w/ his cutesy editorial; kiss my ***
Yet he wasn't the first. Heck there are some Islander fans that make fun of Snow because of his equipment. With in the rules? Yes, but Brodeur didn't say he was breaking the rules he said it had gotten out of hand.

Thinking about it more, both hit below the belt. The Goldorak comment was funny, but it is below the belt. But also, both said something true. Snow and others (including Giguere's) equipment is controversial, and the league needs to take a look at it. And, after what we all know has happened, Brodeur may need to pay more attention to his personal life.
Didn't Snow get into a war of words with Roenick last year too? Something about how Roenick was a loser because he dropped out of college or something. As I recall Roenick's response was along the lines of: "Well, Garth went through college and now he gets to be the backup for the Islanders; I dropped out and I'm a first-line forward making millions...I wonder who made the better choice?"

Don't most draftees drop out after a few years anyway?
Your just angry because your favourite team lost to him in the finals, eventhough he didn't wear 2 tonnes of equipment like Anaheim's goalie. What was his name? Half of Anaheim will forget if they don't make the playoffs next year.

Wrong sir. Try Giguere. One playoff of greatness before equipment regulations were cracked down on... and he gets a 4 year, 19.5 million dollar deal in the offseason. That my friend is overrated.

Well, over-rated or not, Giguere has had more than one playoff of greatness. He has been very solid for two regular seasons and won the Conn Smythe in his first playoffs. I would say that he tends to be either over-rated or under-rated. He's not "the next Patrick Roy" (now) but he is significantly better than the "average" NHL goalie.
Brodeur needs to just shut up and play. Nobody put him in the Goaltender Spokesperson position, so just shut up and play goal.
How ironic that a loser on an internet forum would open his mouth and yap nonsense while demanding that Brodeur stays quiet.
Why aren't hockey players allowed to speak their mind? Especially when they speak the unadulterated truth?
If we as fans have a right to speak, I think people need to realize that players like Modano and Brodeur also have a right to say what's on their mind.
