Revisionist History of your NHL Team

So basically you change all the screw ups your team has done in the past.

For Ottawa:

Instead of drafting Alexandre Daigle 1st overall the Senators choose Todd Bertuzzi. Keeping him and devolloping him unlike N.Y. did.
The Sens do not trade Pavol Demitra.
The Sens do not Draft Mathieu Chouinard in the 1998 Draft instead they take a risk and choose Jiri Fisher who turns out to be a steal.

These seem to be all the things I can think of...hopefully other Sens fans can add just like all you other hfposters.

1. The Devils re-sign Alexander Mogilny after 2001 and keep him paired with Scott Gomez.
2. The Devils do not draft Lance Ward in 1996, instead draft Derek Morris.
3. The Devils don't draft Nathan Perrott, instead they draft Mike Leclerc.

I can't think of any more.

lafayette aims 1 cm lower and the canucks send game 7 of the 1994 SCF to overtime. Linden scores and the canucks win the cup

For the Wings:

-I will only replace draft picks with guys drafted at most one round later.
-I won't re-draft Anders Eriksson, since he was turned into Chelios.

Urgh

BOSTON BRUINS:

No "Too Many Men on the Ice", which aids the possibility of the B's not being the team to have lost the greatest number of Cup Finals (12). Instead, the B's go .500 in the Finals and end up with nine banners in the rafters. Actually, Jeremy Jacobs never bought the Bruins, Eagleson never shafted Orr out of ownership rights and they won in 1988, 1992, 1999, and 2002 with one of the top six payrolls in the league. Not too shabby. Surprisingly, the team never lost that much money. The "New Garden" seats 22,000 instead of its current smallish 17,565 and it sells out due to its history of repeated winning teams.

Pittsburgh - reverse the trade of Ville Siren and Steve Gotaas for Scott Bjugstad and Gord Dineen.

The Pens have never been the same since.

For the Wings:

-I will only replace draft picks with guys drafted at most two rounds later. I'm also going to restrict myself to the first pick made by the team in any particular draft.
-I won't re-draft Anders Eriksson, since he was turned into Chelios.
-I won't re-draft Martin Lapointe since he was an important part of some Stanley Cup winners.

with that in mind...

-1997 draft: take Maxim Afinogenov at #49 over Yuri Butsayev
-1996 draft: take Zdeno Chara at #26 over Jesse Wallin
-1995 draft: take Mike Leclerc at #26 over Maxim Kuznetsov
-1994 draft: take Jose Theodore at #23 over Yan Golubovsky
-1992 draft: take Michael Peca at #22 over Curtis Bowen

...and the biggie

-1990 draft: take Jaromir Jagr at #3 over Keith Primeau

And of course, I would stop Vladimir Konstantinov from getting in that limo after the 1997 playoffs.

I'd think you'd rather have Chris Pronger than Bertuzzi. Pronger has been a force for years, and if healthy, is still more valuable than Bertuzzi.

The Sabres:

1.) At the 1990 draft, choose Keith Tkachuk instead of Brad May in the 1st round. Draft Mike Bossy over Ric Seiling, and Brian Leetch instead of Shawn Andersson at other drafts.

2.) Draft ANYONE other than Artem Kruikov at the 2000 NHL Draft.

3.) Never fire Ted Nolan after the 1997 season.

4.) Never HIRE Scotty Bowman at all.

5.) Don't get screwed over by ridiculous calls such as the phantom goal in Philadelphia and the infamous "no goal."

6.) Update, but don't change completely, thier historic blue and gold jerseys.

Something clicks in Game 7 last spring and Ducks win the Cup
Kariya and Selanne are signed for lengthy and cheap deals (costing less a year together then 10 million)
Ducks still sign Federov and also bring back Steve Thomas

when it comes to the draft, there is one and one only...

#1 after winning the expansion entry draft coin toss w/ ANA, you pick 4th in '93 and 2nd in '94, NOT 5th in '93 and 1st in '94!

****, this franchise might be in different shape starting out w/ paul kariya+jeff o'neill/radek bonk in stead of rob niedermayer+ed jovanovski

LOS ANGELES KINGS
As the trade deadline approaches in 1993, Bruce McNall succumbs to the pressure put on by Gretzky, bites the bullet and heaves over another chunk of Los Angeles' future for Paul Coffey, who combined with a solid crew in Sydor, Robinson and Zhitnik lead LA to a victory over Les Canadiens.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS
In 1970, as the lottery wheel spins and settles on 11, Canucks management take great offense at Buffalo management shouting "TWO!!!!" and retort with a "NO ZIEGLER YOU HALF-ASSED MORON! IT'S ELEVEN!"...the Canucks grab the first overall pick in the 1970 NHL entry draft and nab Gilbert Perreault, instead of Dale Tallon with the 2nd.

In 1994, Mike Ridley decides he's homosexual, and never looks at another woman again.

Pat Quinn does not trade Mike Peca.

Vancouver drafts Marian Hossa instead of Brad Ference in the 1997 entry draft.

Right before the Caps let Scott Stevens go for draft picks, Ted Leonsis buys the team and signs Stevens to a long-term deal.

The Blues

St. Louis....

- never gets rid of Scotty Bowman as head coach,
- takes Mike Gartner at #2 in 1979 instead of Perry Turnbull,
- takes Chris Chelios at #20 in 1981 instead of Marty Ruff,
- never lets Harry Ornest control the team (which means no trading Doug Gilmour and several other players b/c of financial concerns),
- gets to draft in 1983 (they didn't pick at all b/c of ownership questions)
- doesn't deal away their 1st round pick for several years
- We don't trade Momesso, Ronning, Courtnall and Dirk for Butcher and Quinn in 1991,
- the arbitrator gives the Devils Curtis Joseph instead of Scott Stevens,
- doesn't waste the '92 draft picking worthless Russians,
- NO MIKE KEENAN!
- Yzerman's shot sails over the crossbar in the 2nd OT of Game 7,
- Pronger doesn't get hurt in the 2002 playoffs

and that's just a start.

Agree more or less...Kariya, Pronger or Bertuzzi would have been better. The most likely was Kariya instead of that nurse outfit wearing imposter we got.

Instead of Choinard...I would have prefered Gagne in 98 and Huml or Lilja or Aulin or Stoll in 2000.

I hope we don't have to add, "Just given Havlat what he wanted in 2003 instead of trading him like Demitra".

Habs

1- draft local "the most exciting player to have ever played the game" smaller boy Denis Savard instead of Doug Wickenheiser

2- trade a still in his prime Chris Chelios to CHI for the close to the edge Savard

3- draft local scoring sensation Mike Bossy instead of Mark Napier

4- neer never never never hire Mario Tremblay as a coach and Patrick Roy retires in a bleu-blanc-rouge uniform after 3 more Stanley Cups in MTL.

5- draft Simon Gagné before PhI can do it instead of Éric Chouinard who is in Philly now anyway.

6- keep Réjean Houle in the beer factory and never give him a management job with the team.

There are so many mistakes the Habs have made in the past ten years*, that its hard to know where to begin. To make things easy:

- Never, ever hire Houle and Tremblay. Simply put they destroyed the franchise and we're only just now starting to come out of a decade long slump.
