Bob Stauffer ‏@Bob_Stauffer 11m
According to @dchesnokov 26 year-old Russian defenceman Anton Belov might be coming to North America. Belov is 6'3" and a left shot...

Bob Stauffer ‏@Bob_Stauffer 9m
...Rumours have Pittsburgh in the mix. Oilers might be a good fit. He has 9-17-26 in 46 games with Omsk last season.

2 minutes later...

Think Bob just got lucky or was fed some inside info? I think it is way to close together to have just put two and two together..

Nice. I've seen quite a bit of him and always thought that he did not want to play in NHL. I like this signing.

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman 57s
New EDM D Anton Belov was one of the top offensive D in the KHL this year. Big man with skill who can skate. Not much defensive value.

Maybe a bottom pairing guy to play with Nick Schultz/replace Potter?

I like the signing but he sounds like a Anton Babchuk (height, style of play)...? A motivated Anton Babchuk wouldn't be too bad.

I have to think this would be a replacement for Potter. Although if Potter could clear waivers I wouldn't mind him being a callup.

After a quick search on Belov it sounds like he is a great skater and big but needs work on his defensive side of the puck.

Edmonton needs to improve their left side on the blue line so I guess it helps. I hope when people say he needs to improve his defence it is a small improvement needed and not gapping, maybe the smaller ice will help him in that aspect.

So judging by this statement I will guess that he will be our 6th or 7th defenseman who sees time on the powerplay. Kind of reminds me of a guy named Potter

Based on the twitter feed, I guess they are trying to entice season ticket sales.

Just as a comparison and not a good one, but Nikitin played with him and had 12 less points in 13 games.

I'd rather take shots on good KHLers than career AHLers like Potter.
