I think you are right. Besides the U.S. contribution to the finals was so weak :

Krug was the worst D-Man and only American on the Bruins.
Leddy seldom got off the bench and was a disappointment.
Saad was nothing special.
Kane was good but disappeared for long stretches of time.

the NHL wanted something to sell to its American fans.

Any Bruins fan can tell you that Seidenberg was far and away their worst defenseman. He **** the bed for all 6 games of the Finals. And Kane won the Conn Smythe so...

It is Canada Day, so why not look at a Potential Team Canada Olympic Roster.

Nash - Crosby - Staal
St. Louis - Stamkos - Giroux
Sharp - Toews - Bergeron
Tavares - Getzlaf - Perry
MacKinnon

Keith - Seabrook
Doughty - Weber
Pietrangelo - Staal
Letang

Loungo
Price
Crawford

I don't think they put that much scoring on one line.

I think only partly vindicated. I think Nate was the deserving number 1 pick, both Kevy and I believe Nate is and will prove to be BPA in 3 to 4 years. Full vindication will come at that time. It's the same argument for Sid v Ovi from 2005-08. If all 4 Top picks make the show next fall (it appears that is very likely) then it's going to be one hell of a Calder race.

Hi. I'm new to to the forum. I wanted to register because I was bored last night and wrote down some possible olympic teams for different countries and wanted to post them here. So here is Canada:

Version a) is not very likely (I don't think Cunitz and Dupuis can get in) but relies heavily on chemistry and has strong defensive face off center men as Stamkos' and Tavares' other line mates.

Chris Kunitz - Sidney Crosby(c) - Pascal Dupuis
Joe Thornton - Steven Stamkos - Martin St. Louis
Matt Moulson - John Tavares - Patrice Bergeron
Patrick Sharp - Jonathan Toews - Claude Giroux
Jason Spezza

Drew Doughty - Shea Weber
Duncan Keith - Brent Seabrook
Dan Hamhuis - Kris Letang
Alex Pietrangelo

Roberto Luongo
Cam Ward
Corey Crawford

PP1
Chris Kunitz - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos
Duncan Keith - Kris Letang
PP2
Matt Moulson - Claude Giroux - John Tavares
Drew Doughty - Shea Weber
PK1
Patrice Bergeron - Pascal Dupuis
Drew Doughty - Shea Weber
PK2
Patrick Sharp - Jonathan Toews
Duncan Keith - Brent Seabrook

Version b) is a younger team with Luongo being the only one born in the seventies I guess. Canada is so strong, you could build countless strong teams with a little bit different players.

Rick Nash - Sidney Crosby(c) - Jason Spezza
John Tavares - Claude Giroux - Steven Stamkos
Eric Staal - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry
Mike Richards - Jonathan Toews - Patrice Bergeron
Patrick Sharp

Duncan Keith - Shea Weber
Drew Doughty - Alex Pietrangelo
Dion Phaneuf - Kris Letang
PK. Subban

Carey Price
Roberto Luongo
Marc-Andre Fleury

PP1
Rick Nash - Sidney Crosby - John Tavares
Dion Phaneuf - Kris Letang
PP2
Eric Staal - Claude Giroux - Steven Stamkos
Duncan Keith - Shea Weber
PK1
Patrice Bergeron - Jason Spezza
Drew Doughty - Alex Pietrangelo
PK2
Patrick Sharp - Jonathan Toews
Duncan Keith - Shea Wewber

I think I heard that 45 players are going to be invited to the Summer tryouts. What would the breakdown look like?
Does this look right? Who would you invite?
6 goalies
15 defence
24 forwards

in response to dream Big my orientation camp roster would be...
Goalies
Price, Louongo, Bernier, Crawford, Smith, MAF

Defensemen
Keith, Doughty, Weber, Subban, Letang, Peiterangelo, Seabrook, Girardi, Staal, Schultz, Boyle, Boumeester, Giordano, Cambell

Forwards-Crosby, Stamkos, Giroux, Toews, St.Louis, Tavares, E.Staal, Kunitz, Hall, Eberle, Neal, Nash, Duchene, Perry, Getzlaf, Thornton, Seguin, Berergon, Couture, Lupul, Sharp, Benn, Kane, M.Richards

I know Iginla will probably get invited as a sign of respect but I wouldn't have him.

Along with scoring, there has to be some experience, leadership, and defensive responsibility...I think this would be a well-balanced lineup for Canada...

F:
L1: Nash - Crosby - Giroux
L2: Hall - Stamkos - Tavares
L3: E.Staal - Toews - Sharp
L4: Couture - Bergeron - Perry
R: M.Richards, J.Staal

D:
P1: Weber - Letang
P2: Doughty - Subban
P3: Keith - Pietrangelo
R: Seabrook

G:
G1: Cam Ward
G1A: Roberto Luongo
G1B: Corey Crawford
G1C: MA Fleury
G1D: You get the idea...

Goalies are tough to call here...hoping a couple of American goalies emigrate to Canada for a roster spot...like a reverse Brett Hull.

Great job man. Solid list. I have it pretty much the same except that i have Corey Perry still as one of my forwards. That could change the start of next season. However, he played very good hockey for Canada in 2010 alongside Getzlaf, led the league in

goals just two years ago with 50 goals, and i believe with a good start to the year in the early part of next year, he should get the consideration again for Sochi. Others may disagree, but i still have this guy on my roster right now next to Getzlaf.

Would people really bring Marc Methot, Bryan Campbell, and Michael Del Zotto to camp over Mike Green?

Mike Green is a right handed D just like Drew Doughty, PK Subban, Alex Pietrangelo, Shea Weber and Kris Letang. Then Brent Seabrook is also ahead of him.

Duncan Keith, Dan Hamhuis, Marc Staal, Jay Bouwmeester and Marc Methot will be the best left D available.

Del Zotto over Green is a matter of position.
