If Helm doesn't work out as a 2nd line center, maybe this

Abdelkader- Datsyuk- Tatar
Franzen- Zetterberg- Nyquist
Bertuzzi- Helm- Brunner
Miller- Andersson- Eaves

Also these are what i think will actually happen. I'd love for us to get Bickell and Stalberg, but those chances are low.
The second choice is what's much more likely to happen.

Here is a pure fantasy line-up. I know it won't happen as thats a lot of players moving and signing.

Nyquist, Andersoon, Smith and Kindl are all RFA's and have gotten raises. If we wanted to cut even more money to be able to offer to the UFA's we could offer them the standard amount.

Trade Tootoo for a 3rd.
Trade Emmerton for a 4th- 5th
Buyout Samuelsson
Waive Lashoff

Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Nathan Horton ($5.000m)
Ryane Clowe ($3.750m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($2.250m)
Gustav Nyquist ($1.100m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m)
Bryan Bickell ($1.900m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.900m) / Tomas Tatar ($0.840m)
Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) /

Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m)
Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / Brendan Smith ($1.200m)
Danny DeKeyser ($1.350m) / Jakub Kindl ($1.400m)
Carlo Colaiacovo ($2.500m) /

Jimmy Howard ($5.292m)
Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m)

Buyout: Mikael Samuelsson ($0.000m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,694,545; BONUSES: $1,010,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $615,455

With a roster like this we get a lot tougher to play against. All 4 lines have big bodies or guys that like to hit. The Bickell for Tootoo is a wash as their salaries are the same but Bickell adds size.

After looking at it the amounts for some of the UFA's may be low. We still have 615 K and could cut more by lowballing the RFA's.

I would also be fore buying out Quincey and offering his Money to Scuderi.

it is pure fantasy, etc, but horton, clowe and bickell are certainly 3 players that i wouldnt mind seeing on our team. well, bickell acted like a total ****** in our series with the hawks, but rather on our team than not. and unlike tootoo, he can play.

I agree he acted like an *** but him and Cleary showed a ton of class during the hand shakes. You could see them both apologizing to each other and wishing them luck. One of the reasons I love the sport so much. 30 seconds before they would of ripped each others face off for the win.

i doubt we get any of them that cheap. but he did say it was just fantasy, and none of those contracts for new players are overly unrealistic.

Even if I lowballed some, we still have almost 4m to spend, so we could pay FA's more. This line-up has size, speed, and skill, everything you need in the East. We get tougher and stronger, while still having our youth. Weiss gives up more center depth. Top 3 lines can score and the fourth can PK and keep a lead. Defense stays young and replaces Q with Dekeyser/Colaiacovo. Howie in net. Love this line-up.

Why would Holland put Lasoff on waivers when he just resigned him to a 3 year one way deal, Either one of Quincey or Coloaiacovo. will be gone before Lashoff. Brunner, Clowe and Bickell will get way more money then you have them signed for and your still about $400,000 over the cap, Tootoo wont get traded but i could possibly see Emmerton traded or put on waivers since we will have far to many forwards once again. Clowe will get around $4,500,000 to $5,000,000 Brunner will get around $2,750,000 to $3,000,000 and Bickell could get about the same as Brunner, I just cant see Detroit affording both Clowe and Bickell when Ken Holland said that there wont be any buyouts. Sounds like only trades.

I would love that. I dont like Cola being our 6th and Lashoff 7th because of how easy Cola gets hurt but I like the line up alot but if he stays healthy its a solid by committee group.. I don't think the numbers are very low either.

That line up gives us skill, speed and size on the top 3 lines and a great defensive 4th line. If Helm cant go we have Andersson as a solid 4th line center and can bring up a Ferraro or Sheahan for 4th line.

Thats all realistic moves as well. The trading Bert might be a little difficult though.

I think Bickell would be better on Datsyuks line but theres a lot of leeway for moving players around and shaking things up.

It's sad and hilarious that Gator is pretty much locked into the Wings top six for the foreseeable future.

What a waste.

A bit OT, but I'm trying to get an idea of who the best defensive forward role players are on each team. I tried to set up some criteria to eliminate the more offensive two way guys in the league, and the young up and coming offensive guys.

Basically hoping to get mostly bottom six guys who's main role is strong defensive play, though it's ok if someone is a bit of a tweener on a 2nd line or something. Even if you don't think your team has any strong defensive forwards on the bottom lines, please mention who you think are the best of the group.
  • Player can be a pending UFA - As long as they are currently with your team
  • Player must be 23 years old (as of now) or older - To eliminate young offensive two way players like O'Reilly or Landeskog
  • Player can not have more than two 40 point seasons in the last 7 NHL seasons - To eliminate the Bergeron's and Staal's

If a few of you have time to stop by this thread and add a couple names, that'd be awesome. Try to limit it to the two best guys, but if you feel the need to add more that's fine. Thanks for any info you feel like sharing.

What is this crap? All these Brunners, Nyquists, Jurcos and Jänrkroks will drive past him pretty soon.

My ideal lineup would have to be:

Nyquist - Datsyuk - Horton
Brunner - Zetterberg - Franzen
Tatar - Helm - Abdelkader
Miller - Andersson - Eaves

Kronwall - Ericsson
DeKeyser - Smith
Colaiacovo - Kindl

Doubt they let that many guys walk though. (Cleary, Bert, Sammy, Fil)

Quincey?

I doubt they get Horton. I bet it'll be this exact lineup but with Abby on Datsyuk's line () and Tootoo filling in on the 4th line.

About Quincey, I just think the above 6 defense are better in pretty much every way, so he's a 7th in my eyes.

If we get Horton though it'll be unreal....a man can dream can't he

They probably won't get Horton and Bickell with the play-off runs they've had. They are going to get mad pay days, whether they should or not.

Agreed, and Quincey is making 3.75M so he really needs to go.

I would like to see this.

It's possible though that Holland's signs no one, in which case Emmerton replaces Weiss on the roster and we'll probably see:

Nyquist-Datsyuk-Abdelkader
Franzen-Zetterberg-Brunner
Eaves-Helm-Tatar
Miller-Andersson-Tootoo
(Emmerton, Bertuzzi)

Defense is the same.

In this scenario our cap space will be a little over $5m.

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,388,333; BONUSES: $1,205,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $2,116,667

Very random fantasy roster I made... Involves a lot of roster turnover... Will never happen, but I can dream right?

Johan Franzen, Brendan Smith, Teemu Pulkinnen... Maybe Tomas Jurco... I dunno. We have the farm depth to pull it off though, I do know that.
