Poile said we would draft a forward at the 4th pick UNLESS he trades it. So it's a possibility.

It would need to be massive. I mean, you have bare minimum of Barkov sitting there at 4 who would likely be the number 1 pick in next years draft. What would it take to acquire the number 1 overall pick next year?

I would think multiple first rounders and on ice talent simply due to the top heavy nature of this draft.

Hopefully it'd take a forward better than Barkov.

I hope Poile has the Barkov jersey made up, and then goes on vacation until June.

No need to overthink this, short of Edmonton offering up one of thier young guns, just take Barkov.

Barkov.

One first round pick, one second round, one conditional pick (no lower than a fourth round) and Poile quits his job!

BTW, I am not kidding about any of the above items!

It seems to me the only way you trade this pick is if you're close to being a contender; otherwise, you draft your piece, develop him with FF and move along. I suppose if EDM wanted to move one of their kids then maybe, but that's essentially the same thing with a little more experience. Otherwise - think massive overpayment, then double it.

it would take a deal I seriously doubt any GM in his right mind would be willing to give.

The only return that would make sense would be a young, established top line center already signed long term, and I dont see the Hawks giving us Toews, the Isles giving us Tavares, or the Pens giving us Malkin or Crosby, so I dont think I can see a scenario that makes sense for us to trade

Why do people keep saying they would do the move for one of oilers kids??

Id rather have barkov than most of them anyways to be honest. Maybe that's just my insane opinion, but barkov is amazing and has so much size. Just love him as a prospect!

Also has something that most of their kids don't: size, and a two-way game.

Now I'm buying into the hype-- he's also young, just a few days away from qualifying from 2014 draft. And has put up numbers against men, including NHL players during the lockout.

We'll see...

another thing is he is at the beginning of his contract lifespan. any of the oil players would be several years closer to contract re-negotiation/free agency

If the talent level is similar I would just as soon have him for the next 3 years on an ELC... by the time thats over with an he gets big money both Fisher and Gaustads contracts will be off the books

On the trade boards, a BUF fan and I are tossing around the idea of Vanek+#8 for SK+#4...

I really want to keep the pick, but I'm not sure Vanek+Monahan/Lindholm isn't better than Barkov+SK, especially if Vanek re-signs.

Hall's a ppg player and Yakupov might have a higher upside. Wed be very lucky if anyone we pick at 4 turns out to be as good as either of them.

Not that i think the oilers would do that.

The same way he did when Kariya, Sullivan, Arnott, and Dumont were on our top 6?

Tampa fan coming in peace. Just wondering, would you guys do 3 + for 4 + Josi? Or 3 + 4th round for 4 + Blum. Drouin is the type of creative franchise player you might be looking for. If Mackinnon is there (not likely) even better for you guys. Again just curious, I know how high you guys hold Josi, and I really want to know what the plus would be considering the difference in potential from Drouin/Mackinnon to Barkov/Lindholm/Monahan/Nichuskin
