Nashville/Buffalo

To Nashville: Vanek, 8th overall
To Buffalo: Josi, 4th overall, Kostitsyn (use amnesty buyout)

Buffalo adds a good young d-man, moves into the 4th overall spot.

Nashville adds a much needed top line winger, ditches a problem player.

Buffalo could also retain a bit of Vanek's contract if that greases the rails.

Love it for Buffalo, but highly doubt Nashville wants anything to do with it.

EDIT: I thought I read that you couldn't trade for a player and then amnesty him?

Josi is not going to be traded. Kevin Klein would be our #2D. Also, that value sucks.

No. Not at all. Vanek has one more year on his deal. Nashville is dealing from a position of weakness for a winger, and that doesn't address our main need in the forward corps (top line center). This trade creates a hole on the top pairing when we already have one on our second pairing. It also takes away our ability to draft that potential top line center.

If Vanek would extend 4 years then it must be considered. Josi would not be part of any deal. With Vanek pretty much wanting out of Buffalo it is understandable they would want to get some return. There is such a mancrush here on Barkov im glad fans do not make decisions. Vanek wit a 5 year contract and the 8th overall is plenty for me. The odds of Barkov producing at the clip Vanek has and will for another 5 years is slim.

This is the part that isn't clear if this deal is done before the draft in June. There is still the amnesty buyout period.

Especially considering the difference in value between Grigs and Barkov is nowhere near Myers.

Wow, we move down four and all it takes is our 1st top five pick since 98 and a top pairing defenseman. Pass

Let Myers be someone else's lottery ticket. I'd send him off to upgrade Grigs to Barkov any day.

Regardless:

Myers + Grigs for 4th.

4th + 8th for 2nd.

Take Mackinnon.

Myers, Grigs, 8th for Mac.

If that was your plan..I'd stop at 4...take Barkov then take a D at 8.

Because Vanek is such an awful player.

If Vanek were drafted by Nashville, he would be their all time leading goal scorer. In terms of PURE goal scoring, he's one of the top 20 wingers in the game. Nashville needs goal scoring badly. Vanek also has an OK two way game. He's not gonna win the selke anytime soon, but he's passable on the PK and in his own zone.

I could see Nashville being particularly interested because of financial reasons more than anything. Buffalo could easily keep some salary or even take back a player they want gone, such as Kostitsyn and buy him out.

If Josi is such a non starter, then fill in the blank Nashville fans:

To Buffalo: 4th overall and (blank)
To Nashville: Vanek and 8th overall

With salary also going back to Buffalo, either in buffalo retaining or the form of a shorter term contract.

Also acceptable. I'd just prefer Mac.

I'd probably do the 4th overall for Vanek straight up. Adding Josi is an absolute no go.

Vanek's a great player, who only has one year left on his contract. He's also 27. I'd rather take a risk on Barkov as te star center we can finally call our own.

We are not interested in cap space, Sk's contract won't be an issue, we don't have anybody to buyout.

Vanek would be our all time leading goal scorer assuming he scored at the same clip on a completely different team with different linemates in a difference conference.

No one is saying Vanek is a bad player. I think Preds fans would love to get in on trying to bring Vanek here, but not if it's going to create a hole on our first pairing when we don't even have a complete second pair PLUS we give up our shot at a very good center prospect. We've needed a top line center since Arnott started going down hill. Throw in how there is no guarantee that Vanek would re-sign here and it just makes it too much of a risk.
