Finnish all-star?

Who are/were your favorite finnish players in the nhl? Please make 1st & 2nd finnish all-stars.

Guess I'll have to give it a try myself:

1st:
Esa Tikkanen-Matti Hagman- Jari Kurri
Teppo Numminen-Reijo Ruotsalainen
Miikka Kiprusoff

2nd:
Jere Lehtinen-Saku Koivu-Teemu Selänne
Jyrki Lumme-Risto Siltanen
Kari Takko

Some other good players: S. Kapanen, Ruuttu, Jokinen, Skriko (f)
Rautakallio, Timonen, Niinimaa (d)
Markkanen, Nurminen (g)

Hagman from what I saw of him in NHL he's not better then Koivu so reverse both players and I pretty much agree with your picks.

I think BLomquist deserves a honorable mention, maybe not the most skilled but a hard worker, great leader with awesome work ethic

While I was a huge fan of Tikkanen, and liked as Canucks Lumme and Skriko, pegged the Kipper as a future star when he as a Shark stoned St. Louis in the playoffs a couple of years ago, and I think Sami Kapanen is very underappreciated by HFboard posters...

Come on!

None of you have mentioned the most exciting young NHLer from Finland in the young blueliner Joni Pitkanen

After seeing two NHL games of the guy who had dominated the world juniors I knew he was the real deal!

Give it up for Joni!

that's true Joni is AMAZING if you ask me.. but I think he needs a little bit more experience before we add him to the all time all star team

You saw him play in NHL then? I've never seen a single NHL game by him, was around 11 when he returned to Europe. Yle (national broadcasting service) wasnt very interested on reporting or showing NHL games back then. I just remember how awesome he was in some of the games I did see...
Quote from Kurri:"Hakki was surely one of the best passers in the league. In some other team he would have gone far" Anyway, I guess it'd have been a very difficult situation for any center to play in the same team with #99 (who had 35 minute icetime per game).

I had 2 search the net to learn who the heck is Juha Widing. Having seen his stats, he seems like a good player but hardly a finnish one. Swedish parents, played junior hockey in NA. The same goes for Sandström. He was a great player in his prime, but swedish (his parents moved to Sweden when he was little, played 4 Sweden in numerous tournaments etc...) I suppose they are finnish by the NHL standard, but not otherwise

Otherwise a good list.

O.K. Maybe its time 2 move on...What about the other countries?
Sweden has had her fair share of great players: Loob, Gustafsson, Gradin, Steen, Sandström, Sundin, Forsberg, Alfredsson, Näslund... But for some reason it seems hard, at least for me, to name swedish defs that were big stars in NHL. Salming of coss, Öhlund is (kinda)...ummm...Ulf Samuelsson was a swede right? Goalies? Tommy Salo, Pelle Lindbergh.

So: Let me see your Swedish all time nhl all stars (1st, 2nd or more)

My suggestion:
Sandström, Forsberg, Alfredsson
Salming, Samuelsson
Pelle Lindbergh

Sundin and Näslund in 2nd line

It would be nice to see russian, czech etc. all stars as well.

And finally the ultimate challenge: european all-time nhl all stars
(remember: nhl players only)

I hope when you mention Naslund, you mean Le Petit Viking 'Mats'.

Well I wasnt, and am redder than a fire truck right now. He just slipped my mind somehow. Correction: 2 x M. Näslund in the 2nd all stars

And I've made WORLD all-starteams with 30 forward lines and 15-20 D-pairings. Anyone who wants to take a look.
