I think George Gosbee might just be the Loch Ness Monster.

Bettman has that used car salesman smell all over him trying to sell a car that's going to break down once it leaves the lot. I would like to think that Gary Bettman is a rational player, and that the mayor of Glendale and the newly elected officials are rational players. Rationally, the team ends up in Quebec, but it seems like it's going to drag out as long as possible. The NHL really wants to see what kind of offers Glendale got on the arena before acting.

To recap, yep, them's a whole lot of burgers!

Purchase price = $170 million
Gosbee's portion = $45 million
Fortress financing = $120 million
NHL's loan = $85 million
Glendale's AMF = $6 million

Who's 'feasting' and who is 'famished?'

Can't we really blame them after all the whole damn mess already lasted 4 years so what another week or two. Sure PKP is likely foaming at the mouth but he smart enough not to rock the boat. And beside an official announcement around the 22 would make for one hell of weekend! lolll

Winning that kind of Jackpot I be in Glendale by Monday to buy Jobbing and raze it to the ground. Problem effing solved. As a matter of fact if PKP is reading this if you front me the cash I do it for you. We can keep your hands clean you will have all the plausible deniability. Bonus we gonna make some cash selling condo on that lot! loll Edit: Joke aside being in PKP shoes by now I would have so called AEG and tell them "If you win that bid and keep the NHL out of Jobbing I write you a quick check for 10 Million." You want to jerk me around two can play that game.

Seattle becomes(stays as) plan B. Hamilton (Yikes!) becomes plan C. Remember, after Winnipeg, Quebec didn't start building its arena yet (although there were talks). After Winnipeg took the Thrashers, it didn't look like there would be anyone left to take the Coyotes, so the NHL kept stalling. When you run out of time, you run out of time. Every other franchise looks reasonably healthy for the near future.

I think/believe that the NHL would rather move to an old Copps Coliseum than contract a franchise. The NHL would award this franchise on a temporary basis with no owner, and would try to provoke a Southern Ontario city to build a new arena. Kitchener-Waterloo sounds perfect because I think it's just outside both Toronto's and Buffalo's territorial rights, and it has a bigger media market than you would think. If the owners had the choice between contraction, and infringing on Toronto's and Buffalo's territorial rights, I think it would do the latter. If a new owner does take the franchise, by all means they would have to pay up.

I guess Hartford would be plan D. No real reason to go back to this shrinking market that doesn't have a modern arena, and would incur losses, but it's a good PR story. This is mostly a temporary solution as well.

Las Vegas is a complete wildcard option.

After this... there really are no options other than to contract. Not the best options, but teams are reasonably healthy. The Islanders are moving to Brooklyn, which will net big bucks, Columbus is rebounding, and Florida is locked in. Edit: I think the league would rather contract than move to Saskatoon. Believe it or not Saskatoon might be the best option, but the league would never do it.

Keep in mind, the NHL REALLY doesn't want to go to Quebec City. As good an option it is, it's no Winnipeg. They have to operate out of an old arena, in a small city that mostly doesn't speak English. It's terrible.
SPEAKING OF QUEBEC: How does anyone know what the league wants / wishes / hopes for. A lot of people feel the NHL hates Quebec. A few governors say this or that but the same could have been said about Winnipeg and guess what happened with that theory? Can anyone provide a link to a statement from Daly or Bettman saying same. I didn't think so!

So they operate out of an old arena till the new one is completed. Bet they'll make 4 times what the Coyotes make playing in a state of the art arena. Not a valid point!

Actually a small city (516,622 (2011)) like Winnipeg (663,617 (2011)). Well actually smaller than Winnipeg, but very dedicated to the old Nordiques and will probably be even more so to the new. Crazy, insane for Nordiques

Mostly don't speak English. What does that have to do with say the fans in Vancouver or Boston or Tampa or a Mexican family in the Mexican enclave surrounding the unincorporated area of East L.A....... Correct, it really doesn't or shouldn't matter to most of North America

COMPARED TO GLENDALE: We all seem to agree the NHL has gone far and beyond what any profit orientated business would do with such a lemon so it's pretty obvious what the NHL wants / wishes / hopes for there. But then hey, if the other 29 owners don't give a rat's azz, why should we care also? It's their money that's going to prop up a team that, if owned by anyone other than the NHL, wouldn't even qualify for revenue sharing.....

Arena, yah Glendale has a beauty, few can compare. But if it's not filled every night, at even at the average NHL ticket price of $58+ versus Coyote average of $38+....so what then if the Colisee is small the revenues will far outpace that of Glendale....

Small city..... Glendale is but then there's all the fans in other suburbs clamouring for Glendale to put up taxpayers dollars so they can enjoy hockey on the cheap on Glendale taxpayers dime.....

Language..... Quebec speaks mainly French, little English while Phoenicians speak American !

The NHL has done a lot to keep the team in Glendale, but has done the bare minimum as defacto owners and arena management to make the team successful. They have a cap-floor roster and brought a handful of events to the arena, not a great business model. The fans aren't the problem in Glendale, their taxes have actually paid the league to stay.

Can someone recap the current situation? Have the Coyotes been sold and will stay put?

They won't be sold unless Glendale promises money they don't have.

Glendale has been offer a deal (or joke of) to have rse purchase the team, with an NHL loan... nobody expects Glendale council to take the deal...

No deal, no yotes

I posted this in the previous thread, but as a recap:

1) Because we know the financing options on this deal, and because it is rumored/supposed that the same was available to JIG we know that NHL was honest in saying that the price was not the problem.

2) Also, we know that the NHL really has done lots to keep the team there in Glendale.

3) We wonder why? My answer is that the NHL will try to stay until the city says "We don't need you...." I say that because in every other relocation that I can remember, there was some sort of rejection by local officials. The NHL will try to keep that precedent.

4) In the sum of all these things, we can simply observe that really, nothing has changed. NHL is offering financing on the team, just like before. NHL is waiting to see what Glendale says, just like before. There is really no great push on the part of the NHL in May/June of 2013 to force the team to stay. It really is just more of the same old, same old.
EDIT TO ADD: It is my opinion that there is no need to read any anti-QC feeling into any of this. It is simply the preferred process playing out.

5) The difference now is that
a) Glendale City Council seems more likely than ever before to look at cold hard numbers and tell the NHL "We can't offer you what you need. We have better options for us." (This would be ticket out).
b) NHL seems to have made a deadline for CoG and the LeBlanc group that "If the team is staying you have to have a lease SOON.

That is all really.

It comes down to this:
What will the City Council do in the next week, as the rumored NHL deadline looms?

Glendale, obviously, has a history of making unwise financial decisions. So, I fully expect, they will make a deal beyond their means to keep the team in the area.

Anyway, why did the COG offer Jamison as much money as they did last year if they don't have the money currently? How did they expect to pay him this year and the all the following years if the deal had actually been finalized?

Well they did change mayor and city manager since. And when Jamison ran out of time and wanted an extension they told him to GTFO.

The new council's majority are not as foolish as the last. Plus the only way they could offer more then 6 million is to cut basic city services even deeper. Highly unlikely to happen.
