San Jose moving up into the top five

Available: this year's first, any of the 3 seconds this year, Dan Boyle, possibly other players if value is right. Talking realistic offers here, eg nothing like Couture+1st for 1st overall or whatever.

1st+Hertl+ I would imagine to even start to tempt one of those teams.

Just so I have an idea of which way to go here, do you believe couture + 1st to be bad for sj or col?

Somehow I don't think any team is jumping at the possibility of trading a potentially elite player for what you're offering.

Terrible for SJ, 1st overall not worth that cost to SJ.

Ridiculous for both teams. Not particularly bad in terms of value, but unrealistic.

1st + Hertl is a starting point.

A realistic offer from SJ moving from the late 1st into the top 5 is going to take a star player, sorry but you're not getting a potential franchise player cheaply

Why? Lets keep all our picks and prospects.

Yeah, that's where it starts. The + would have to be something significant though. I wouldn't trade Nichushkin for the 20th pick and Hertl unless that last piece was pretty darn good. I don't think SJ gets it done without shipping off a good younger roster player.

I meant to say top 5 or top 10 with the title, but Nichuskin would be awesome. I feel like DW has a plan to move up.

I don't think he plans to move up. He is "resetting" he isn't going to trade young players to move up. It is smarter to keep all the picks and draft 4 players that have very good potential maybe higher than trade a lot of those picks to draft a guy with star potential. This draft is very deep. If we didn't have the chance to get players with top 6 forward upside/top 4 Dman upside with all of our top 60 picks I'd consider trading up. We need to up the quantity of our top end prospects. Then next year we may trade up to get that superstar guy because their will be a larger disparity in the talent between the top 60 picks next year. It will be more worth it to trade up. The only thing I could see DW do this year is trade Boyle for a 1st.

I really doubt DW has any plans on moving up to top 5. The price would be astronomical, and would cripple our core.

He might be planning to move into the top 15, but that's about it.

Realistically forget about it.

The 2nds are 49. 50 and Pittsburgh (57 or 58 if elinisted this round)

These seconds on their own could get you to move up 2-3 spots on their own.

You may be able to get to around 11-13 with 2 of the 2nds. The other secnd isn't good enough to get you to get you into the top 10.

Teams 10-13 aren't going to be interested in going down to 20 just for bottom third seconds. You could entice tems to drop 2 spots or so.

Especially clubs who are without a second.

You could easily flip with Ottawa for a 2nd ( they traded theirs)...To get to 17.. Then do it agan with the islanders because they don't have a 2nd and get to 15.

From there you could then get to around 11-13 with you highest 2nd from the rangers.

The conversation starts with Joe Thornton.

The teams in the top five all need centers, imo.

This is not going to happen.

Not to mention, there is already a thread in this forum where this exact thing was discussed already. No need to go through it all again...

Edit: Hey look! I found it and it took me less than a minute! And now we have two awful threads about this! http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1440781
Combine these threads. Or just close them altogether because this is just not realistic.

Avs don't need a center...Duchene, RoR, Stastny

I'm willing to bet they'll take Jones or trade down to #3 for Drouin

Added: However, if the Avs do take MacKinnon, I'd then be willing to bet Stastny is traded for a Dman

Thornton + 1st could possibly get you into the top 10, but not the top 5. Rebuilding clubs don't have a lot of use for a 33 year old on the last year of his contract. Even if you just focus on 6-10, you'd have to find the right team that feels it could win immediately. Maybe Buffalo? They'd have to be pretty unhappy with that area of the draft though, and they'd still probably want more.

Edit: maybe the Oil as well? RNH-Thronton would make a good 1-2 punch, but it would be in division. I bet if they move their pick it's for defense.
