2013 Buy Outs

What are some of your predictions on NHL compliance buyouts that some teams will make this off-season?

Bryz will NOT be bought out this summer. He will be given one more year to prove his worth and if he struggles again next season he'll then be bought out in the summer of 2014 (by the new CBA, teams can make up to two amnesty buyouts total over the next two summers, 2013 and 2014). There is no "rush" for the Flyers to buy Bryz out this summer for cap reasons.

The Flyers WILL buyout Briere this summer unless he is traded. THAT will be the Flyers buyout this year.

Not exciting ones but for the Hawks possibly Olesz & Montador.

Richards on the Rangers is pretty much a given, based on what I've seen/read.

I am guessing most guys will get 1 more year to prove themselves(Brad Richards is another that comes to mind in that category).

Only guys who will be bought out this summer are teams that need to free up some cash because they are hard up against the cap and the guy they want to get rid of is untradeable.

We may not be able to buy Heatley out because of his injury.

Can you trade for a player only to promptly buy him out?

David Jones won't be bought out this summer, but if he continues his luckluster play into next season he'll get the axe in 2014.

From an outsider, I think you're right. I'm pretty sure they want to see if Mason is up for the task too. The only way they buy him out is if they trade for a guy like Luongo, but I don't see it happening.

And as someone else mentionned, Kaberle is gone in Montreal.

Richards in New York should stay another year. They will want to see if a coaching change will put him back on track. After that, a decision will have to be made. Same with Lecavalier in Tampa. I know he's the captain and all, but when you have a chance to remove such a contract from your books, you have to do it.

Im not sure about that, he only has one year left on his contract. They may not want to waste an amnesty buyout on him, and just wait until next summer to see if they have to buy someone else out.

Id love to "buy low" on any of Richards, Volchenkov, Havlat, Heatley, etc if they get bought out.

Kadri could use a more skilled winger to play with, Richards would be a big upgrade over Bozak, and we could definitely use a veteran defensive Dman.

Obviously this depends on what kind of term/caphit these guys are willing to accept.

What's really interesting is how many times this question is being asked in all of these threads and I don't think it's been answered once (Although maybe I've missed something over on the business board). And I have the same question.

Anyone?

The Bruins did that with Patrick Eaves so unless something has changed it is possible.

Quote:
The Carolina Hurricanes re-acquired veteran defenseman Aaron Ward, a key member of the 2006 Stanley Cup championship team, from the Boston Bruins on Friday in exchange for right winger Patrick Eaves and a fourth-round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft.

The Bruins then put Eaves on waivers for the purpose of buying him out.

Havlat is currently injured. Might not be possible.

From Anaheim, I have to think there's a slight chance that Souray and/or Allen get bought out. The defense's immobility was far too much of an issue at the end of the year.

I think you can buyout anyone the traditional way ie. his contracts cost so much for twice the years left and that counts against your cap

the amnesty buyout which does not count against the cap is different

the player you amnesty has to be on your roster at the last trade deadline.

In other words you cannot trade for a player now and anmesty his buyout
for a zero count against your cap but if you bought that player out at the regular buyout option then he would count against your cap

clear as mud right?

I see no way that Marian Hossa won't be bought out either this year or next.

I added a bit to your list, I think Sammy gets bought out but it wouldn't surprise me if Holland didn't. Detroit needs to clear room for their younger players.

Samuelsson will not be boughout he is having surgury this off season and you cant buyout Injured players and Holland will not buy him out once the seasons starts and he wont be back until sometime during training camp or preseason at least.
