It's surprising that they don't want to test themselves against stronger competition. They will probably dominate the West again this year.

My apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but if not it's good news for all you CIS fans.

North Dakota and Princeton, along with UBC and host Simon Fraser will be participating in the Great Northwest Showcase in January at the Copeland Sports Centre.

You can read more about this HERE.

This series is NOT on the 'Birds' site, nor on The Clown's. In fact, the link http://www.greatnorthwestshowcase.com/ still links to the 2012 tournament.

So we shall now look for something official.

Actually North Dakota has it already listed on their 13-14 schedule. Interestingly enough, Princeton doesn't...yet.

CIS Exhibition Schedule - Final?

I believe that this will be my final draft of the CIS exhibition schedule. It might be worth bookmarking this individual post since I don't yet see a CIS exhibition composite schedule anywhere.

RMC at McGill on September 13th won't be happening. RMC has practice that night for the Queen's game the next night.

RMC defeated Queen's 5-4 in the 8th round of the shootout. RMC actually held a 4-1 lead near the end of the 2nd, but the Gaels scored at the end of the 2nd, then twice in 3 minutes to start the third. RMC had a power play at the end of OT but Chris Smerek fanned on the one timer from the side of the net. The shootout had the Gaels Jordan Coccomiglio score, then RMC's Scott Domenico scored. 5 rounds later, the Gaels miss then defenseman Paul Fone went 5 hole on the Gael's Chris Clarke to end the game. RMC's Evan Deviller faced 48 shots in the game

Queen's top line and top defense pairing did not play, as well RMC's starting goalie Paul Dorsey, top power forward Eric Louis-Seize and top 4 defenseman Eric Bouchard did not dress.

Acadia is bidding on the 2015/16 University Cup with the intention of playing the games in Halifax...much like SMU/St. FX are doing.

Why can't Acadia, SMU, and St. FX all join together for a 3 year cycle with each team hosting for one of the years and hold all the games in Halifax...or does that make too much sense?

I don't have a link but I just heard on the radio that UPEI is bidding for the nationals as well.

So all the bids are from teams in the AUS?

This is either a colossal blunder or a brilliant plan by the AUS to flood the market with bids.

I'm with you. But you gotta think with 3 bids involving 4 schools the AUS has made a pretty strong case for bring the University Cup tournament back to the Maritimes.

Or if you want to be snarky, four AUS teams are seeking a ticket to the University Cup that doesn't involve beating UNB ...

:-)

UNB defeats Windsor 5-0. Shots were 34-23.

Pretty even game through two periods as UNB led 2-0 and the shots were 19-16. UNB put it away with 3 goals in just over 5 minutes in the middle of the 3rd.

Laurier and Brock hooked up tonight in St. Catharines for the annual Steel Blade game (some years it's a tournament). Close to a full house (around 1500) since it's homecoming weekend at Brock. The Badgers pulled out a 6-5 win in ot.

Laurier thoroughly dominated for 2 1/2 periods to build a much deserved 5-1 lead with just over 10:00 left in the third. Honestly, despite the raucous crowd, the game was rather boring and sloppy up until this point.

And then the Golden Hawks ran into penalty trouble (some very undisciplined play -- head shots, boarding, etc.) and Brock fought back hard.

With 10 seconds left on the clock, Brock's Matt Abercrombie netted his second goal of the period to knot the game at 5 all.

With about 2 minutes left in the 4-on-4 overtime period, Abercrombie completed the hat trick and ended the contest. That guy was pure clutch tonight and a plesure to watch.

Just thought I'd pass on this report.

RMC took on York in a neutral site game at CFB Borden at the Andy Anderson Arena. York got on the board first after some sloppy neutral zone play on the Paladins PK and York had a mini breakaway. RMC responded with a shorthanded goal by walk-on Drew Luhowy (who last season was our head stats taker) to make it 1-1 after 20.

York pressed in the 2nd period, having the luxury of a full bench compared to RMC's 3 lines and 6 defense due to the flu bug, but it was RMC who came out with the lead after 40 when Brett Pinder was the recipent of a Jake Bullen pass, then Bullen himself created the turnover and kissed the puck off the crossbar for an RMC 3-1 lead.

The third period was York making the comeback, scoring with 2:48 left to take the game 4-3. RMC just ran out of gas with Paul Dorsey stopping everything in sight.

But again, RMC has held the lead twice now in 2 games after 40 against OUA playoff teams. Who knows what could happen with our full lineup in once the season starts.

Good report, I was able to watch the game after the fact, as it is archived (http://new.livestream.com/Brocktvlive/events/2415022). I attended the Steel Blade about 3 years ago (when it was a 3 team event, Laurier, Brock and Guelph) and it was a good event, a full house then as well. It is great there are annual events like that, which draw huge crowds.

As for the hockey, as a Laurier fan, a strong result despite the disappointment of blowing a 4 goal lead with 12 minutes remaining. Shots were not posted, but territorially, Laurier has not typically controlled play very often the past few years, or been able to generate substantial goal support. So, it was nice to see them score 5 despite having regulars James Marsden, Greg Cerilli, Kyle Morrison and Greg Trichilo not in the lineup up front, and Frank Riddle (hurt against Ryerson) on defence.

It was also good for Vincent Merante to get a start, as while assistant coach Graeme Swan indicated Laurier did not "officially" have a starter, barring injuries, I would be surprised to see Shayne Campbell play fewer than about 24 games this year. Merante had mixed results in Jr. B, while Campbell has substantial OHL and Jr.A experience, and looked fantastic against Ryerson in his first CIS game. Merante and Duncan Long will likely play 2nd/3rd string roles.

That being said, credit to Brock for fighting hard when they were down 5-1 and things were not looking great.

Anyone know which SMU player was injured in their game against Acadia? I guess whatever happened was serious enough to end the game in a 4-4 tie. I've read the player had to be removed from the ice (I assume by stretcher) but that he was moving.

AUS Fan... can you provide any details?

AUS Fan... can you provide any details?
Read on the Acadia Twitter this morning, it was Cameron Wynd and he is apparently back in Halifax and doing good.

Keven Charland is likely out for the whole first half, if not more, with another concussion after a bad luck accident in our game against Ottawa on Friday night.

Friday September 20th
Ottawa Gee-Gee's 4 - Aigles Bleus 3
UPEI Panthers 4 - UQTR Patriotes 3 (OT)

Saturday September 21st
Ottawa Gee-Gee's 3 - UPEI Panthers 1
Aigles Bleus 3 - UQTR Patriotes 2 (OT)

Panthers also beat STU 2-1 on Thursday night in Fredericton in case anyone didn't know, quite the busy and rough exhibition schedule for them. Played at the GHC then traveled all night to Trois Rivieres then played 2 games in less than 24 hours.

Concur. I was not at the game and just got update on the injury. Soft tissue injury and he will recover.

Glad to hear he'll be OK.
