It's a good rivalry, I just wish that '98 series went the other way.

Ugh, now I remember again how brutal our goaltending has been in the past

Man, that 1998 Flyer team was so dysfunctional. On paper, the Sabres were overmatched, but the game isn't played on paper. The Sabres that year were clearly a more cohesive, better team. That Hasek guy had something to do with it, too.

I think the goaltending in that period was never out-of-this-world, but I feel it got an unfair amount of blame for the failures. Of course, long-range, late-game goals to the likes of McCarty and Lemieux didn't help.

That was Joey Kocur, if we're talking about the same goal. That goal won the series for Detroit.

man I was so pumped when we hit the final and went up against Detroit. But that feeling went away when i realized we were a one line team with no goalie going up against a stacked Wings team.

I just got a chance to see the clips tonight. I've got to say I have alot more respect for Burkie. He was always the expendable goalie for every organization he's been with. Always very humble and willing to step aside for someone else. Even this year he could have complained when Esche had an off night but he didn't. He's a class act all the way.

Agreed on Burke. Perfect veteran backup. 2003-04 was the first time I have been comfortable with our goaltending tandem that I can remember.

We made the NHL top 10 again. Number 10 is the 1975 playoffs with Reggie Leach as the Conn Smythe trophy winner.

I should throw all of you to the wolves for revisiting the 1998 playoffs. What an embarrassing nightmare.
