what player will torts help the most?

so now that it's all official, just looking for opinions on which player will benefit from the new coach the most. some guys seemed to get marginalized by AV, and i don't think he worked equally well with different personalities on the team. ballard and kassian are obvious ones but a fresh perspective and might change less obvious roles as well.

personal vote, i think david booth will be much better but i'm not sure that would be entirely coaching given his rough luck with injuries.

alternatively, who do you think gets run out of town as a result of this hire.

I don't know why Raymond is up there cause he is pretty much gone. I say Edler.

I hope Kassian, but I think that Booth could transition his play to a "Tortz" style best, and will benefit from it most. As long as he doesn't kill himself out there first, of course.

I am going to say Edler because the Canucks probably aren't bold enough to trade him... but I can see Kassian being the biggest beneficiary.

Can we please stop calling him "Tortz"? It's "Torts".

Bieksa will look better simply because he won't be overused (especially in situations where he's playing hurt).

Kassian. Torts will groom him.

I hope Sullivan can do well with Edler, Tanev and Corrado.

I really think Torts is going to get the right kind of response from guys like the Sedins, Kesler, Burrows, Higgins, Hansen, Garrison, Bieksa and Hamhuis as they are all really hard working guys and they all have grit in their own ways. IMO the way these guys respond to Torts is going to have a really positive impact on a guy like Kassian. Seeing how veteran players respond to being challenged and pushed in the right way is going to show Kassian how he needs to respond as well and given his natural tools, he could become a real strong player for this team.

It will be and has to be Kassian. If he can be as good as he's shown in flashes, he will be a game breaker.

I think Hansen could take a big step forward next season under Torts.

I doubt it, he's already pretty good defensively and physically. His biggest problem is on offense and Torts isn't exactly the best offensive coach.
Hansen will still do great, I just doubt he can "take a big step forward".

My vote goes to Edler, who struggled a lot defensively and physically these past couple of seasons.

I really don't think there's 'another step' for Hansen to take at this point. But i'd expect he'll become an instant favourite of Torts and play an awful lot...it may even become frustrated watching Hansen play more than he probably should.

I think Booth is the guy who stands to benefit the most from Torts. His skillset meshes really well with Tortorella's 'no plan through through the neutral zone' strategy and the 'heavy forecheck' he's going to want to see. And i think defensively, Booth will be a much better fit as a shot blocking automaton type cog in the 6 goalie system, as opposed to more of a 'thinking man's defensive game' under AV, preaching containment and more complicated assignments where Booth's defensive IQ deficit was badly exposed.. That is...if Torts can turn Booth into a serviceable shot blocker.

My vote goes to Edler, who struggled a lot defensively and physically these past couple of seasons.
Where I think Torts could help Hansen is in the consistency of his physical game.

Hansen has a habit of matching his style to his linemates. In a third line role he's the honey badger we know and love. When he gets bumped up to more a more offensive role, like when paired with Raymond, his aggressiveness and physical play tend to slide. As a result, his effectiveness suffers. I don't see Torts letting that happen for very long.

Of course, Torts may never put him in a more offensive role.

i don't think hansen will get that much better. i think another coach might coax a 20 goal season or two out of hansen in a different role, but i think with torts we'll get the same awesome 3rd line grinding hansen. and i couldn't be happier with that. but i think torts will absolutely love him.

this is what i posted in the other thread:

to those still hoping we trade edler against all common sense (i.e., impending NTC): look at what torts, and perhaps sullivan, did with marc staal, and especially girardi and mcdonagh. if edler can play up to his abilities, he will be all of our favourite players. seriously, all of us.
which is not to say i don't also look forward to what torts can do with kassian.

sadly, i think ballard is gone. which is too bad because i think torts could make a really useful player out of him, the kind of #3/4 guy playing on the bottom pairing that was the luxury we thought we'd have but didn't in '11.

but what i like is tortorella's track record with developing defensemen (or at least his ability to fill his coaching staff with guys who can do that-- unlike bones, under whose watch very good players like edler and especially ballard regressed). the rangers guys i mentioned in my previous posted. but boyle became a two-time second team all-star under him in TB. sarich also made big strides.

If Edler is still here it'll be him, I can easily see Edler taking huge steps forward under Torts, Edler could become that elite D man under Torts. But with Torts saying what he did I'm wondering if Edler is available by trade
