Masterton I understand because of him passing away, but Goldsworthy's number shouldn't have been retired in the first place. Plus, he never even played in Dallas. Broten had a good career, but there's no way #7 should be retired either.

If I had it my way, in 5 years, the only numbers that would be retired were 9, 19 and 56.

I would only retire 9,56 and maybe 26. Goldsworthy's numbers are worse than Morrow's and was only captain for 3 years, maybe an older fan can explain why his number got retired because I have no idea. Neal Broten was great but not a legend, therefore I wouldn't retire his number.

Goldsworthy was a heckuva sniper in his day. Of note, in 1973-74 he became our franchise's first ever 40+ goal scorer (48) finishing 5th in the league in that category. He also led the NHL in playoff scoring in 1968. Brett Hull is the only other Star to accomplish that. And that 1972 Summit Series team - he was on it. In his day he was about as popular as anyone among this franchise's fan base all-time. He was the franchise's first real star player and that's pretty much his legacy. He passed away in 1996 but that was of course after his number was retired so it didn't play a role like it did with Masterton.

Broten led the franchise in just about every offensive category until Modano surpassed him. That doesn't necessarily make him great but he was our best player for a long time. It may at first resemble Stan Smyl having his number retired out in Vancouver, but Broten was more of a star player than Smyl was. Smyl topped out at 88 points and only ever surpassed 70 points twice more. In 1985-86 Broten became the first ever American born player to eclipse 100 points in a season and darn near did it in his rookie season 4 years earlier with 98 points in just 73 games. He was also on that Miracle On Ice team of course.

Even if you look at some of the numbers retired by original 6 franchises (Cam Neely and Terry O'Reilly in Boston, Darryl Sittler and Wendel Clark in Toronto, Adam Graves and Mike Richter in New York, for example) they aren't your high-end "legends" of the game, but were excellent for their franchises and wildly popular. You can stick Goldsworthy and Broten in that category and having their numbers hanging in the rafters is far from an embarrassment. They each represent different eras in this franchise's history and I'm glad they're up there, as they should be.

Other real good players have come and gone (Gagner, some off the Cup team, Eriksson, etc) but will never be as significant to the franchise as those two will always be.

Got the 9 game plan just for this game. I'm going to be at SXSW for work on the 8th. Pretty disappointed.

That would be hilarious, I'm down as long as we have name tags with our usernames.

My wife and I were planning on making it down. We've been trying to have a kid for a couple years and we found out a few months ago that my balls are there just for decoration. We're now facing major expenses for fertility treatment (around $15,000)

Up until, well pretty much now, I've been holding on to hope but I finally succombed to reality.

I'll just resent the hell outta my kid (assuming we ever do have one). If not, I'll just resent someone else's.

Would have been great to be a part of it if it were to happen, but I'd love to see a group pic of everyone from here who does make it.

I could fly/drive back to Dallas and then fly/drive back to Austin. So, not really. Which sucks.

Only bright side is that day I'm going to a session where the production/Marketing teams for the NHL are speaking about the NHL rivals show and 24-7.

Good luck dude. My wife and I are not at that point on our lives yet. We just got a puppy. That's been eye opening.

You could always adopt. Things always seem to find a way to work out in life.

Thanks fellas. Really appreciate it.

Yeah it certainly sucks. Never imagined I'd be in this position in life. I find myself wondering if we should just get a dog instead and leave it at that haha. We've always wanted kids though so I think we'd regret it if we woke up one day in our 40s or 50s and didn't have any. Of course, I'd have a nice shiny piece of memorabilia from Mo's retirement night to admire

I'll make er back down again for a game at some point though before too long.

Damn rights

I actually said to the nurse and our specialist at one of our appointments a few months ago,

"If I find out I pulled out for nothing all those times I'm gonna be p***ed."

My wife likes it when I speak.

I havent brought this out in the open on my FB Bill. My wife just doesnt want all the attention and questions etc etc from everyone. I'm comfortable here though. And she's not on here. I don't think.

Guess we should talk about Modano now or something

Of course the 99 team will be there. You think the Stars would pass up a chance to plug that group again??

Said some of the guys from the North Stars were coming down, guys he played with in high school, all of the previous owners (that'll be interesting to see if Hicks gives a speech).

It sounded like almost all of the 99 team was going to be there, including management and coaching staff.
