Too lazy once again to do a formal offseason report, so here's a brief one.

2016 NHL Entry Draft:

29th overall: C Yury Khudobin (59 ovearll, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars, SNP, Belarus)

From the second round on, everyone was 3 stars or lower.

Re-signed:

C Andy Miele (86 overall, 28 years old) - 3 years, $19.35M
LW Chris Brown (80 overall, 25 years old) - 2 years, $4.2M
RW Nikita Filatov (79 overall, 26 years old) - 1 year, $0.85M
C Ryan White (78 overall, 28 years old) - 2 years, $1.8M
G Joni Ortio (82 overall, 25 years old) - 3 years, $4.68M

+ AHL players and prospects

Free Agent Signings:

D Felix Boucher (57 overall, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars) - 3 years, $0.925M

Sent an offer-sheet to C Philip-Michael Devos (80 overall, 26 years old)
3 years, $5.64M per year
A 3rd round pick was sent to Tampa Bay in exchange for Devos' services.

Traded:

G Jimmy Howard (84 overall, 32 years old) and a 2018 3rd round pick

to New Jersey for:

LW Stefan Matteau (74 overall, 22 years old, 4 stars) and G Henrik Karlsson (77 overall, 32 years old)

Didn't desperately need Matteau, but I wanted to dump Howard's contract since Ortio appears to be NHL-ready.

2016-17 Seattle Gladiators Lineup

Cory Conacher (85) - Nathan MacKinnon (85) - Phil Kessel (89)
Nikita Filatov (79) - Andy Miele (86) - Dale Weise (85)
Philip-Michael Devos (80) - Andrew Cogliano (82) - Chris Brown (80)
Ryan White (78) - Jay McClement (78) - Kaspars Daugavins (76)

Oliver Ekman-Larsson (86) - David Rundblad (87)
Brandon Gormley (86) - Chris Summers (83)
Corey Potter (77) - Maxim Goncharov (78)

Daniel Cotton (88) - Joni Ortio (82)

Cap Space: $5.872M. Would be about $9M, but the contract buyout of Mikhail Grabovski still applies. It would also be less if the game wasn't ******** and didn't bump OEL's salary up to $9.950M in year one... Still three more seasons on that contract. I would have spent some more money to upgrade our defense, but our bottom pairing hasn't been bad the last couple seasons, and I have some big contracts coming up next year. Cotton, MacKinnon, and Gormley too, I think. Want to make sure I have enough money. Will probably spend more next offseason.

I enjoy summarizing the season and doing playoff series recaps, and things like that. Plus trades and big signings. But when it's a somewhat uneventful summer like this one, I just don't care that much.

Yeah, I got kinda caught up in a couple of prospects who haven't been developing as I'd hoped. Drouin is like 70 in his 4th season, and I drafted a 4.5* goalie who is still 49 in his 5th season x.x

I love doing offseason reports as that is the time where I'm the most active. Durign the season, I don't do much except for simming.

Anyways, an update is coming up within an hour or two.

Canes Active At Deadline

For the first time during Flyers8's tenure as the Carolina Hurricanes GM, he made a move at the trade deadline. This move was acquiring Right Winger Marian Gaborik from the Blue Jackets for two prospects, a second round pick in the upcoming draft, and Eric Stephan. Dominik Soudek-20 60 overall 3.5 stars
Eric Stephan-26 79 overall 3.5 stars
2020-2nd round pick

March 4th, 2017
Seattle Goes on Trading Spree at Deadline

Young Russian sniper Mikhail Grigorenko was one of the multiple players acquired by the Gladiators at the 2017 Trade Deadline, from the Buffalo Sabres.

The Seattle Gladiators obviously did not respond well to losing in the Stanley Cup Finals last spring.

With a record of 28-30-6, the Glads sit 12th in the Western Conference. Their management has given up on making the playoffs this season, and has decided to shake up their core. Everyone is performing below expectations - especially Dale Weise, who only has 27 points in 64 games. Nathan MacKinnon is on a slightly better pace than last season (44 pts in 64 GP) and Cory Conacher has been solid (45 pts), but Phil Kessel has struggled with only 47 points. He is being paid $9 million a year, so should be a point-per-game player. Goaltender Daniel Cotton's stats have suffered, although they are still decent. Last season he won multiple awards with a 1.97 GAA, and now has a 2.39 GAA. But his save percentage is still .922%, it's really not his fault. He hasn't been getting any goal support and has been hung out to dry by the defense multiple times.

So what did Seattle do at the 2017 NHL Trade Deadline? It sure made TSN happy - they made four blockbuster trades. Let's take a look:

Trade #1 -

D Oliver Ekman-Larsson (86 overall, 26 years old, 4.5 yellow stars)
LW Nikita Filatov (79 overall, 26 years old, 3.5 red stars)

to Buffalo for:

C Mikhail Grigorenko (78 overall, 22 years old, 4.5 yellow stars)
2017 1st Round Pick

Trade #2 -

C Yury Khudobin (59 overall, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)

to Tampa Bay for:

D Will Sawyer (64 overall, 20 years old, 4 yellow stars)

Trade #3 -

RW Dale Weise (85 overall, 28 years old)
D Chris Summesr (83 overall, 30 years old)

to Pittsburgh for:

RW George Gratton (59 overall, 20 years old, 4 green stars)
D Scott Harrington (73 overall, 23 years old, 4 yellow stars)

Trade #4 -

LW Ulf Holmstrom (62 overall, 21 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
C Jay McClement (78 overall, 34 years old)

to New York for:

D Griffin Reinhart (74 overall, 23 years old, 4.5 yellow stars)

(^ That trade was offered to me while the others were composed myself. I know that one's not fair at all but I couldn't resist )

Seattle will finish the season with these lines:

Cory Conacher (85) - Nathan MacKinnon (85) - Phil Kessel (89)
Philip Devos (80) - Andy Miele (86) - Chris Brown (80)
Kaspars Daugavins (76) - Andrew Cogliano (82) - Brendan Shinnimin (77)
Jordan Swarz (75) - Ryan White (78) - Tom Wandell (74)

Brandon Gormley (86) - David Rundblad (87)
Griffin Reinhart (74) - Maxim Goncharov (78)
Oliver Lauridsen (76) - Corey Potter (77)

Daniel Cotton (88) - Joni Ortio (82)

Rangers Fall Flat to the Caps
1st Round Recap
April 28, 2014

The Capitals advance to the 2nd round as they have beaten the New York Rangers.

Well, this was a disaster of a season for the Rangers. Once again, the Rangers came up short in the post-season and GM Flamesrule is not a happy camper about it. "It's unacceptable. The team has underperformed since I have come into office and it will not happen again; you cant trust me on that. However, I do admit that I made a mistake at the deadline standing pat basically, which also will not happen again. " The Rangers went down early in the series, 3-0 for the Capitals. But, they were able to put up a fight at the end, as they forced a Game Six. When Game Day did come, the Rangers played awful and lost the game 6-3. Alex Ovechkin scored two goals in the last minute while Joel Ward scored with three minutes left to get the game-winning goal.

Game One: 1-3 L
Game Two: 1-3 L
Game Three: 2-5 L

Game Four: 4-1 W
Game Five: 2-0 W

Game Six: 6-3 L

^ Ouch. Tough way to go out, you gonna make some changes?

My Glads finished 35-38-9. Tied for fourth last in the league, looking to trade up in the draft. Simming there now.

Agreed.

For some reason in my Colorado GM he never got past 76 overall which was disappointing. Now he's a solid backup in Seattle

He actually had decent stats in the 35 games he played, despite being on a crappy team.

My biggest problem I have with him is his overall gets too high.

When he's at a 82-83 he puts up amazing stats. At 84-86 he does terrible.

Starting a new dynasty as the Jets. Gonna be minimal posting style. Fantasy draft, and I'll be focusing mainly on player development and tracking my drafted prospects.

Edit: never mind about fantasy draft. Just gonna do regular rosters, no trades, no waiver claims, no signings (only extensions).

2014 Draft Recap
June 30, 2014

With the Rangers losing in the 1st round yet again, GM Flamesrule went out and did some major wheeling and dealing at the draft. Firstly, he went out and traded for the 2nd overall pick, as he said the greatest need was for another defenseman. “I want the Rangers to become a defensive powerhouse. Defensive teams win championships; I mean, look at the LA, Boston, and Chicago. They all were great defensively. That is what I want this team to become.” Since the Rangers held the 2nd overall pick, they went out and drafted Aaron Ekblad.

Aaron Ekblad was selected 2nd overall by the New York Rangers.

However, the Rangers were not done. GM Flamesrule yet again traded up in the draft, this time getting the 6th overall pick. With the pick, he selected Canadian goaltender Alexander Dubeau. In exchange, he had to give up defenseman Dylan McIlrath and a 2014 2nd round draft pick.

The Rangers picked Alex Dubeau with the 6th overall pick.

^ Ekblad is only 4 stars? In my GMs he always comes out of the draft at 77 overall with 4.5 yellow stars. Didn't edit him, either.

Hello Seattle
Seattle Gladiators Select Danish Winger Jay Hedican Second Overall

Jay Hedican, one of the newest members of the Seattle Gladiators, poses in his team's gear. He will not likely play in the NHL
this season but is expected to be a top line player in the near future.

The first five seasons of existence have been all over the place for the Seattle Gladiators. They drafted second overall in 2013 (Nathan MacKinnon), and then first overall in 2014 (Daniel Cotton). Then, in 2015 they made their first ever playoff appearance and even advanced to the second round before losing to Columbus. The next season, in 2016, Seattle finished second in the league and went all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost to Ottawa.

The 2016-17 season was very similar to 2012-13 and 2013-14 for Seattle. Despite their amazing performance last season, this year the Gladiators seemed to regress. They finished 5th last in the league with a record of 35-38-9. Four big trades were made at the trade deadline and another was made yesterday on draft day.

The Edmonton Oilers owned both the 4th overall pick (their own) and the 2nd overall pick (acquired from Minnesota). Gladiators GM Deku Scrub convinced Edmonton to give up the 2nd pick in exchange for the 5th pick and the 26th pick (acquired from Buffalo). With the 1st overall selection, right-winger Ralph MacMaster was selected by the Detroit Red Wings. MacMaster is a 19 year old two-way forward from Switzerland - he is the first Swiss player to be taken first overall in the NHL Entry Draft. Seattle didn't mind, though. The player they traded up to select was not MacMaster.

"First of all, I'd like to congratulate the Winnipeg Jets on their first Stanley Cup in franchise history," said Deku Scrub, at the podium. "And I'd like to thank the Toronto Maple Leafs for their wonderful hospitality here at the draft, and also our wonderful fans all around the world. We know it was a rough season this past year, but we believe this team has a bright future. Now, onto the selection. With the second overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, the Seattle Gladiators are proud to select, from Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL, Jay Hedican."

Hedican also makes history - he is the first black Danish person to be drafted to the NHL, and will more than likely be the first to play in the NHL. His mother is African-American and his father is native of Denmark. He was born in Denmark and begun his junior hockey career there, before moving to Ontario and being drafted by Kingston of the OHL. He is a 73 overall left wing sniper, who is 20 years old with 4.5 yellow stars of potential.

Oilers acquire Ron Hainsey from Jets, prior to Deadline

Ron is 31. He has 1 year left on his existing contract.

GM Craig McTavish and the Edmonton Oilers wanted to add a piece to bolster there line-up as they were on the verge of fighting for a playoff spot. They were weeks away from the Deadline but wanted to make a deal now. The Trade details are below:

Darcy Hordichuk (32 Years Old, 4th Liner, 71 Overall)
Edmonton's 2013 2nd Round Pick

Ron Hainsey (32 Years Old, Top 4 Defenceman, 83 Overall)

Darcy was a healthy scratch in the NHL, and even in the AHL for that matter. He was just taking up a roster spot. And we have Anaheim's 2nd Round Pick, and if we make the Playoffs our pick wont be high 30's. This is a deal we're very happy with. Ron will play on the 3rd D paring with Laddy Smid but will get time on both the Special Teams. He is a great acquisition, that this team has been looking for. More deals may come at the Deadline. Stay tuned!

Whoops, forgot to edit that part. He is 4.5 Stars, but he is 74 overall. Also, I loled at the dreadlocks, he must be the 2nd player to wear them (I think Laraque used to have dreads).

@Jared- Good luck in the playoffs!

I did too
Was very surprised to see that he's black, didn't expect it since he's from Denmark. Even then, usually any black players I get in the game have short hair. Never got a guy rockin' the dreads before

Oilers acquire Brandon Sutter at Deadline

Brandon is 24. He adds to our great core of young talented players.

We wanted to add a top 9 forward, most preferably a 2nd or 3rd Liner. Brandon fits the 3rd line spot perfect. He is a natural Center but will play on the right side wing. Trade details below:

Danill Zharkov (19 Years Old, Unsigned Prospect, 2 1/2 Stars)
Corey Potter (28 Years Old, Top 6 Defenceman, 76 Overall)
Edmonton's 2013 3rd Round Pick

Brandon Sutter (24 Years Old, 3rd Line SCR FWD, 82 Overall, 4 Stars)

Danill is a good kid, but we had to give up to get. Feelings aside he wasn't anything special (or so the potential says). Corey has been good to us but he hadn't played a single game for us in either the NHL or AHL so just taking up a Roster Spot, and the 3rd, well, the Pens wanted the deal to be sweetened. And let's hope Sutter can help our surge to the Playoffs even more. Playoffs next! (Inless we choke, HOPE I DIDN'T JINX).

Hurricanes Make Playoffs As 1 Seed

The Carolina Hurricanes have made the playoffs again, this time as the first seed in the Eastern Conference. Their record of 50-22-10 gave them 110 points but they were the second best team in the NHL as the Nashville Predators had 124 points to win the Presidents Trophy. The Canes hope that they do better in these playoffs than they have in the past few years.

The Hurricanes will face the 8th seeded New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals

Canes Win In Seven

The Hurricanes beat the Rangers in this series, but they were up 3-1 and they let the Rangers force a game seven. This organization and fan base will not be happy unless the team makes in to the Easern Conference Final by winning the next series.

Scores:
5-1
3-2 OT Rick Nash GWG
2-0
3-2 OT Jamie Benn GWG
3-0
4-0
3-2

The Hurricanes play the 7th seeded Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

We missed out on playoffs. Barely. No formal write-up. Lazy..

Will do an Off-Season write up, though.
