Sharks will participate in the Canucks Young Stars Classic, also involving Jets, Flames, and Oilers.

Nice. Does the rookie class usually play in this?

Yes, San Jose's prospects along with lots of "invites".

Based on two+ years ago rookie tournament participation....

Often may be an open "scrimmage" of the rookies before they head to tournament.

Canucks had online feeds of tournament games.

Players I'd expect to be on rookie tournament roster include: JP Anderson, Grosenick, Hertl, Hayes, Abeltshauser, Lalancette, Tierney, 2013 CHL draftees, Crane, Nieto, Scheidl, Schwartz, Tarasov, Demelo

Usually. The only guys you wouldn't see are anyone in Europe who's not coming over to NA this year (which in this case right now is no one, though the draft could change that) and guys who are still in college and haven't yet signed pro contracts, since NCAA has super strict rules on participation in pro-run camps and tourneys.

And for other team scouts to get a look at the opposition prospects.

TO players are also trying out for NHL and/or AHL camp roster spots (and potential contracts).

Out of curiosity, why do we always get invited to these?

Is he injured? (Cause that would be about the only reason he would not participate)

Isn't it only the lesser prospects? I remember the last one Couture did not play.

Opportunity for Sharks brass to see "rookie" players play against other rookies (start a little rivalry with conference opponents, too) rather than NHL/AHL players (who have more experience as it would be in exhibition/pre-season games).

If a player is a (pro) rookie then it's almost a given they'll participate.

If he's played a full AHL season, then no.

Maybe it's because it costs me 30-50 to go but I love these.

This is a nice way to see how our rookies compare to other NHL teams
rookies, as well as a way to benchmark their progress in development.

I'll be interested to see our roster.

Blasphemy! If Hertl doesn't make the big club, this might be the only chance to watch him live since we can't catch the games in Worcester. Hopefully he plays.

Acolaste has played too many years to be included. I've added two goalies and four other players (not even including any 2013 draftees; or any invitees).

Did Scheidl get signed (not that his has anything to do w/ the Penticton tourney)? I know Worcester liked what they saw in him but I hadn't seen that he signed an ELC...I'm still waiting for them to officially sign Brace too.

Scheidl is on AHL contract. (But can participate on NHL TO in tournament/camp.)

(FWIW, Sharks have sometimes wanted all AHL contracted players in SJ for camp, so they have been on NHL TOs.)
