Right. We need more players like Hollweg.

I'm not sure Hollweg was that useful. Never really remember him being a stud.

I still like Yogan, as well. He has a nice combination of skill, grit, size. I hope he has a very good season. We could really use a player like him if he develops.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I don't remember Clowe having any sort of history of concussion issues here, though it's certainly possible I missed it somehow. So, while certainly it's a big concern, I don't think you need to be anywhere near as worried as you would be if he'd had a recurring issue with them before. (It wouldn't surprise me if the "2" he had were really just 1, and he came back too fast, too)

I certainly understand the 2nd being an impediment to signing him. Obviously, I'd love for us to get it. Given how snakebit he was last year, between awful shooting luck and multiple injuries, I could definitely see him taking a 1 year incentive-laden deal to set him up for the big payday he was originally looking for. Guess we'll have to see...

Yeah, that is a good point.

Our D's haven't been allowed to pass the puck for three years and our centers haven't been asked to transport the puck up ice for three years.

The Rangers’ staff is convening this week at GM Glen Sather’s Western White House in La Quinta, Calif., for the organizational meetings that will focus on the coaching vacancy and personnel decisions, the most immediate of which involve the Brad Richards’ amnesty buyout and Ryane Clowe’s pending unrestricted free agency.

The cost of re-upping Clowe, the 30-year-old winger who is believed to have sustained a pair of concussions in a matter of 16 days bridging the season and the playoffs (and is suspected to have suffered an earlier concussion while with San Jose before coming to the Blueshirts prior to the deadline), will be more than the dollars on the contract.

For if the Rangers re-sign Clowe, the big-bodied winger who had trouble keeping up with the pace before going down in Game 47 at Carolina, the club will be obligated to send a second-round pick to the Sharks in 2014 (instead of a No. 5) in addition to the second and third in 2013 already sent San Jose’s way.

Way too costly, by any measure.

The Blueshirts are not likely to pursue impending free agent defenseman Mark Streit, captain of the Islanders, but are expected to investigate Marek Zidlicky, on his way to being free of the Devils.

Clowe has bust retirement contract written all over him.

The Rangers traded their 2nd,FLA's 3rd and a conditional 5th in 2014 which becomes a 2nd if the Rangers re-sign him. The Rangers have 3 3rds in this draft. They can trade 2 of them to get a 2nd. The FLA 3rd was acquired for Wolski. The Rangers have the Panthers 5th in 2014 from the Casey Wellman trade. The Rangers have the pick to replace the pick lost in 2014.

Streit wants upwards of $5.5M per. He will turn 36 in December. Another bust contract waiting to happen for some team.

The Flyers desperately need a defenseman. Everyone is afraid Philly will make drop a huge offer sheet on their group II D. Elliotte Friedman joked last week in his 30/30 column. Hide your defenseman from the Flyers.

Del Zotto for Brayden Schenn and another asset.

A hockey trade. Not poaching some player who his team can not afford to pay. Not a free agent signing for the next 5 years at $27.5M. Not a malcontent his team can not wait to dump.

Stepan. Nash. Callahan. Brassard. Hagelin. Kreider. Schenn. Miller. Dorsett on the 4th line. Fill out the line-up with young players or in trades.

Blow out Boyle,Powe,Asham and Pyatt. They serve no purpose. Boyle has value. Trade him.

Maybe I am overrating the other GMs, but I personally have a hard time seing just who is going to give him that retirement contract.

Like, lets say you sign him to that type of contract, and it does blow up how on earth do you defend it? We had this guy, he had scored 2 goals for the season, looked very slow and had a bunch of concussions, but lets just say that we saw something in him, or what?

A team needs some kind of veteran leadership. We need someone who can fight. To get that from a 4th lineer you often end up paying 1.5m per. To get that from a avg 3rd lineer, you often have to pay 2.5m per. I would be willing to take a chance on Clowe for 3-3.5m per and at decent length.

Brayden Schenn hasn't been able to get it done at the NHL level, yet. But I like how he works a Power Play and the offensive zone. Its effective.

RangerBoy, do you sleep? Ever? Legitimately curious.

B.Schenn is a pipe dream. McDonagh should be locked up ASAP. Holmgren might just be crazy enough to offer sheet someone if he doesn't like the trade market.

Zidlicky is done. Pass on him. An even bigger pass on Streit.

I don't know how realistic a trade between the Rangers and Flyers is given that Sather and Holmgren have never made a trade with each other, but if we're discussing Del Zotto for one of Couturier and Schenn, I would prefer Couturier.

I know he didn't put up the big offensive numbers this season, but he's a fantastic defensive center at age 19 and I'm pretty confident the offense will come. His shooting percentage was low at 5.3%. Just 32% offensive zone starts. His Defensive GVT this season was 6.7. For reference, Stepan's DGVT was 8.1. He's bigger than Schenn. Both had a poor faceoff%.

I would totally do MDZ for B. Schenn. Schenn is a Mike Richards lite, with a good chance of actually becoming his clone.

The Flyers are desperate for RHD after the Devils exploited them in the '12 playoffs. NJ kept dumping the puck on the off wing defender's side and forced him to turn to play the puck, and the Flyers had zero RHD, so it happened over and over and over again.

Sometimes its not the talent on the roster that wins, but the holes that cause you to lose. Thus the Weber offer, and the Schenn trade.

I would do MDZ do Schenn/Couturier. I might be more apt to try for Couturier + though depending on what else I could snag.

Are there rumors of a Schenn/Couturier for MDZ swap? Or is this RB postulating that it make sense (not that I disagree).

id be all over that mdz for schenn the problem is.. if a trade is made most likely it would be Coutier IMO..

schenn was 2c for flyers this year and Talbot would become the 3c..

mdz for eberle or schene would be amazing but flyers/rangers trading is like hell freezing over hahah doubtful.. but who knows..

and id love the holmgren trying to pouch MCD... all i know is grioux is rfa in a year so watch out!!!

Not to worried about the Flyers, but if they do something stupid like offer 4 1sts via offersheet for McDonagh, I'll pack his bags for him.
