There's Edmonton looking to move their pick. Philly look for a D. Burmistrov wanting out of Winnipeg. More possibilities will emerge. The NHL GMs are meeting in Boston before game 4. The draft is less than two weeks later. Free agency is July 5.

I think there will be a lot of action this year. Just a feeling I am getting from all of the chatter this year.

Yep, there is a lot to get excited about. Hopefully we can land a nice young forward.

Yeah, Edmonton's pick, Couturier/Schenn, Burmi, maybe Yakupov, and hopefully there's others. Lots to look forward to.

It would be nice to have a forward scoring 30 goals on an ELC for once.

I'd be all for trying to land Burmistrov.

We destroy our LHD depth for picks. We are a contender why would we go into rebuild?

Lundqvist is not leaving unless we hire Messier/ Gretsky and if that happens idc because I won't be a NYR.fan anymore.

It's not like Staal and MDZ are 30... They are both pretty young why would we trade them??? This entire post makes no sense. We have made the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years.

We don't need to blow the team up! We need to tweak it.
I don't see the Rangers as a top contender, so you might as well build for later on. If not, you end up in no man's land forever; never bad enough to get a top draft pick, but never good enough to win a Stanley Cup. From the second Sather was named the President/GM of the Rangers, I wanted him to rebuild from scratch, but he did just about the opposite. Finally having money after the years in Edmonton, he got carried away with free agency. Any rebuild project was half-assed; the only time they tried to trade vets for picks/prospects was in 2004 when they started to bottom out. Unfortunately, the only player that could have brought back major assets was Leetch, and the only part of that trade who turned into anything for the Rangers was the draft pick that became Michael Sauer.

If this team was one player away from being a top Stanley Cup contender, I'd change my tune, say go for it, but they are at least 2 pieces away from that level. Just my opinion; I'm probably in the minority.

If Lundqvist's demands are reasonable, then keep him. Staal is probably gone in 2 years, so get something for him. Staal and/or MDZ can be used to acquire the early first pick that they should use on a high end skill forward the Rangers need. Not a fan of Paarjarvi myself, just that his name was mentioned on here numerous times as a possible asset coming back to the NYR in a trade involving MDZ; was only trying to play devil's advocate with him.

I think Eriksson gets moved and I wouldn't be surprised to see Florida make a couple of big moves. Same with Vancouver.

Man, if Loui Eriksson was available, I don't think I'd be able to control myself.

Neither will other teams.

I like him, but I'm afraid of what it would cost. Goligoski is another name that is out there.

not a fan of his... id love that rookie Dillon but i doubt the Stars move him.. i also would not mind Barrett Jackman, Roman Polak, Mark Fristic, Cory Sarich type dman.. Rangers need some grit on defense.. i know a dman that can shoot the puck is also needed but lack of toughness on defense is not a good thing when players get to take wacks at Lundqvist with no response at all... they need a tough mentor for whenever McIlrath makes NYR in 2 years or so... Mark Stuart from the Jets would be a good option. I believe that Gorton was the one that drafted him to the Bruins...

No thanks.

Yeah, Loui would cost a ton. But he's just that good.

I 100% agree with you unless he is amnestied (which I doubt).

I could see a team like Detroit going hard after a player like Eriksson.

I'm thinking Detroit wants to see what they have in Tatar, Nyqvist, Andersen, Jarnkrok.

Although OTOH, maybe they'd put some of them in play for Eriksson since Datsyuk and Zetterberg are getting old.

If someone gives him an offer sheet and he signs it, the jets would have 7 days to decide whether they want to match. If they do not match, the jets would get compensated with draft picks based on the yearly average of the deal. Burmistrov isn't likely to get a lot of money, so the compensation would be minimal and the jets would likely match. In that case, they wouldn't be able to trade him for 1 year.

This is the compensation for offer sheets in 2012-13 (may be different for 13-14):

$1,110,249 or below - No Compensation
Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 - 3rd round pick
Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 - 2nd round pick
Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 - 1st round pick, 3rd
Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 - 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd
Over $6,728,781 To $8,410,976 - Two 1st Round Picks, 2nd, 3rd
Over $8,410,976 - Four 1st Round Picks

At most, the jets would get a 2nd round pick for Burmistrov. Is that enough for them to not match? I doubt they'd let him go for a 3rd. Then again, would Burmistrov even sign an offer sheet, knowing he is giving the jets a chance to match and locking him into playing there for another year?

IMO, an offer sheet is very unlikely. If we want him, we'll have to trade for him. We won't have a 2nd round pick in 2014 anyway if we re-sign Clowe.

If you want more information, you can download a copy of the CBA here:

http://www.nhlpa.com/inside-nhlpa/co...ning-agreement
Unless this has changed, the teams also have that 7 day window to negotiate another form of compensation other than the picks.

However the team that has presented the offer-sheet usually is reluctant to move off the CBA stated compensation based on annual dollars.

Järnkrok needs to gets stronger both physically and mentally before he gets NHL minutes, looked liked a little child in the WC and didn't even play the last games.

Red Wings is also very patience with their prospect and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the keep him in the farm for two more seasons.

The guy is a very effective player, I haven't the slightest idea why hfboards is so obsessed with his offseason weight gains.

But now reports are that he gained weight during the season. And it wasn't all muscle.

This was an "in season" weight gain. That is a really bad sign.
$5m + against the cap. That would be an absurd risk to take for the Rangers.

I agree with the srticle. He is virtually untradebale at this point.
Maybe a team with a decent amount of cap room would take a flyer on him.

bad skater, lazy, injury prone, and he gained it during the season, that's very alarming.

we have enough problems with the players that we have not being good enough, fast enough, strong enough or gritty enough. We don't need to add to that problem base by bringing in a guy that doesn't invest enough time or effort in his own overall fitness level.

Over the course of a season that is going to wear on him and bite him in the arse down the stretch and in the PO's.

We should not have to worry about managing him because he's a fat body.

This.

We're not selling jeans, here. Byfuglien is a very good hockey player, and would fit this teams needs extremely well.

For how long before his body starts to break down from carrying all of that unnecessary weight?
