Is there any room for Lydman next year?

I'm going to be pissed if Sbisa is on the 3rd pairing instead of Allen next year. Allen means far more to the team, and played better than Luca last year. Sbisa has better trade value. There is absolutely no reason to trade Allen. He has shown chemistry with Vatanen, and fills a huge need of shot blocking and crease clearing. If we're going to dump someone for nothing, it should be Souray because he's going to be injured a ton and is old as dirt. Allen is seriously underrated around here because of his crappy start coming back from the lockout. He thrived in the playoffs and guys like him that can play 3rd pairing and kill penalties are valuable. I'd rather re-sign Lydman than Lovejoy to be honest. Dump Souray, trade Sbisa. Go with:

Fowler-(Ryan trade - Edler? Staal?)
Lydman-Beauch
Allen-Vatanen

As far as the forwards go, we just have to see what Murray does with Ryan and Hiller at the draft. The key is finding that partner for Fowler.

I hope. Lovejoy is getting overrated I think because of his good playoffs. He's a good #7, but we shouldn't overpay because Lydman is a superior player if you can get him for a 1 year deal

Allen will not play over Sbisa next season....

We are paying Souray and Sbisa way too much not to play them.

Selanne? Or maybe that's if he retires.

We're paying Allen more than we're paying Sbisa.

I'm really not sure what to think about that. He definitely looked gassed, but could still bring it when he had some time off. But you can't only have him playing half the games.

Huh? We're paying Allen more than Sbisa which is why Sbisa should be moved. The guy has value on the trade market. More than Allen, but Allen is more valuable to this team. If Murray is smart he tries to sneak into the top 15 to land Shinkaruk or Domi (if they fall) by packaging Sbisa and our 1st and maybe a guy like DSP.

I also really liked Allen's play over the last month of the regular season and the playoffs, but in all fairness to Souray he might have looked a lot better with 3rd pairing minutes and match ups. My concern with Souray is that he looked slower than anyone on the team at the end of the season, and Allen somehow seemed to be getting faster at the end. Souray does have fewer WTF moments where he gets himself killed fumbling the puck behind the net as well.

There's going to be a few changes from now and the beginning of the year.

With what we have (including upcoming UFAs) I'd like to see:

Palmieri - Getzlaf - Perry
Ryan - Bonino - Etem
Winnik - Koivu - Cogliano
Beleskey - Steckel - Maroon

Souray - Beauchemin
Fowler - Lydman/Sbisa
Allen - Vatanen/Lovejoy

The second line is not very convincing and the defense only has 2-3 guys I'm comfortable seeing in a top 4 role over a whole season. I'm guessing we see some upgrades before the season commences.

I think Teemu retires. If he wants to come back slot him into the 2RW position.

Yeah but the management sees Sbisa as "the future", it sucks!

Lovejoys family stayed in the Pittsburg area the whole year because his wife is a school teacher and she absolutely loves her job... I can see the Rev entertaining east coast deals over us at first...

Gee I hope I don't offend anyone with another one of my original takes

You haven't been keeping up. The Rev has said he knows his career was revived here and would like to stay. That doesn't mean he will but it does mean he won't be looking to leave because of geography.

Lyman is still quite serviceable. He won't sign here for 6/7 money or a 6/7 role. If the Rev doesn't sign here BM will be on the hunt for that role player.

I am pretty certain he stays if the Ducks don't lowball him. He played good minutes here and played very solid IMO.

Right now I think it is premature to think about possible lineups next season. Way too many questionmarks on our roster. Will Selanne retire? Will Koivu? Will Ryan stay? Hiller? Who will be added in FA? Any unexpected trades?

Currently, with already signed players we can make something like this (i want to realize our current situation before going forward):

Ryan - Getzlaf - Perry
Cogliano - Bonino - Winnik
Maroon - Holland - Etem
Smith Pelly - Rakell - Staubitz

Beauchemin - Fowler
Souray - Sbisa
Allen - Vatanen

Hiller
Fasth

  • This lineup doesn`t include 13/14th forwards and 7th defenseman.
  • This lineup leaves 7,7 M cap to work with.
  • Notable FA`s for Anaheim: Palmieri (RFA), Beleskey (RFA), Koivu (UFA), Selanne (UFA), Steckel (UFA)

I am really not a fan of having Rakell playing on the 4th line. I'd rather put him in the AHL to give him big minutes.

Me too. I was putting on the lineup we have RIGHT NOW. Without any possible resignings and moves. You never know what Bob will gonna do. I did it just for fun, and because it is raining outside and i`m forced to stay indoors

See my wishlist in next post
