Virtually every proposed CBA, from both sides, has agreed to lower the age of unrestricted free agency. They only need to lower it one year, and St Louis becomes a UFA. Even if he remains an RFA, all those scoring titles will ensure that he is one of the top paid players in the NHL. Say Buh-Bye to Marty, because a team that has to give away tickets to the ECF cant afford to keep him.

Twice in 5 years. Ottawa has only done that once, and Ottawa has never been to the finals.

I wouldn't go that far as to say they will be bottom-feeders, but they're not going to be the Oilers of the 80's either that some people beleive can happen.

I would say that none of us here would mind if he had a time out or 12.

Last Cup was in the 70s. How many times since then have we challenged for it? Five. Bolt fans are too easily excited by a cheap thrill which was all your Cup win was...a cheap thrill. Enjoy it, it will be a while until your next one, if you ever get one.

Experience tells me guys with 32 posts to their credit rarely care about such measures.

I have no problem admitting that we lost to the younger Bolts. But if you look at the situation with expansion teams after making a deep playoff run, they dissintigrate shortly there after.

Here's the problem.
1) They're captain will play at the most, another season.
2) Martin St. Louis is unsigned.
3) I don't see Richards making 2.625 mill in coming years.
4) The Lightning's fan base is as fair weathered as it gets.
5) The management consequently does not have deep pockets to spend on big names.

The only shining hope is that management has taken a liking to Khabby and will probably sign him for years to come. At 6 mill he'll be on of the top five paid goalies in the NHL.

Team good, fans come out. Team bad, fans stay away.

As opposed to Flyers fans, who packed the house in the crappy pre-Lindros years.

A mature response with reasoning and insight.
I too would like to say hats off to the TBL for the cup win - great stuff the entire playoffs. Hate the coach but love the style of game. They have put together a good front office and will continue to do well but for the reasons above some changes will also need to come in the near future. The will sign St. Louis at any cost but some of the guys in the margins will not do as well and that is the spot you will see some turnover.
To CDBolt - time will tell

During the 2003-2004 season while they were making their impressive playoff run they werre twelth in league attendance. The previous year they ranked sixteenth. The year before they ranked twentieth. The year before that they ranked twenty fifth. Even you can appreciate the direct linkage between the attendance and their regular season success.

I like Ruslan Fedotenko as much as anyone, but he is not a big name by any means. You forgot DA, who is a much bigger name (or set of letters).

Like I said, another cheap thrill. No guarantee he will ever do that feat again or even be a good player. We shall see. I know my team will be in the running every year, can't say the same about years.

How's the prospects for you? I know of one prospect, not even by name that is halfway decent, that's it. Our prospects are on their way to a possible berth to the Calder Cup. Add them to the mix when NHL starts up and your team is done.

Yeah, and? Doesn't make him a big name player.

Are you trying to rile me up? Because it's not working.

That Flyers-Lightning series from last year was amazing. I remember praying all day at work that Saturday that I would get out in time to see most of game six and luckily I did. Made it home just in time to watch the last hour or so of the game. Primeau was unstoppable. It sort of reminded me of the 95 Cup Finals where the Devils basically shut down the entire Red Wings team except for Primeau.

And I can't complain about the Flyers beating the Devils in 5 games, either.

Primeau Game 7

You don't win the series by playing in game 6.Try showing up in game 7.

Sorry to be trolling but:

If Tampa Bay played Toronto in the 2nd round, and Philly played Montreal in the 2nd round, the Conference final's would have been different. Montreal rolled over for Tampa, while Philly played probably the toughest team to play against physically in the league. Had Tampa's pretty boys had to play the Leafs, yes I believe they would have taken the Leafs, just as Philly did. But TB would have been beat up and Philly would have crushed them. I think people forget that although you can win a series, the physical toll taken will carry over to the next one.

Uwe Krupp scored a Cup winning goal. What did he do before that and what has he done since? Just because you score a goal that decides a series does not make you a big or great player. It makes you lucky to be at the right place at the right time, which Rusty was. Rusty is a good player dont get be wrong, but a great player? um NO.
