Listen up people, this poster is in desperate need of a Sancho Panza to help him tilt at misspellings on Twitter. God speed, sir, may you find the person to tell Dreger his mistake here on this message board, I'm sure he will issue a correction posthaste.

It allows you time to negotiate a contract before Free Agency. This comes in handy when you've got multiple holes to fill in your roster. If you're able to fill one of those positions before FA, it means less players to have to divide your attention.

He's not worth 5 mil on a cap strapped team, but signing him gives us flexibility and not having to worry about the cap floor.

Also, I expect Larsen, Daley and Robidas to be on the block.

That is a lot of money for Gonchar, but I guess Dallas could afford it.

Why?

It is a trade. Gonchar for a conditional 6th. I am curious why anybody would object.

Gonchar was a beast this season. Slight overpayment but who cares, they can afford it.

We got money to spend so we don't mind paying a player like Gonchar 5m for 2 years, especially considering what he brings to the table. Great move!

Good for Dallas. a slight overpayment but someone would have given Gonchar that money. Dallas targeted him and nabbed the guy. That's good business on their part.

Said it in another thread, having cash available doesn't mean you throw excess amounts of it around.

That's the kind of mentality that got Chicago stuck with Brian Campbell. And the only reason they were able to get out of it is because the idiot who signed him wanted him back.

Pretty steep for a player who shows his age on every shift.

Slight over-payment but he'll be invaluable to the young prospects they have.

It is a big contract, but Dallas has the room and the majority of our core is locked up for more then the next two years.

Gonchar had a good season last year, and Dallas has lots of young Dmen who can hopefully learn a thing or two from Gonchar

I'm fine with this signing

Oh I'm sure you watched every single one of his shifts

Based on last season, it's not overpayment at all. He was Ottawa's #1 D-man. He played in all situations and against top lines. He almost led the team in scoring.

It could backfire because of his age. That's it. Based on last season, not overpayment.
