Gionta & Diaz to NJD

Montreal needs to move one of their smaller forwards and one of their smaller PMD, I'm wondering what the interest would be from New Jersey for Gionta & Diaz.

If both players are healthy, you can almost guarantee 15 Goals from Gionta and 25 Points from Diaz.

Gionta has 1 year left at $5 million
Diaz has 1 year left at $1.225 million

I think Montreal would be willing to take back Volchenkov if Jersey sweetened the pot with a prospect or a pick. For Habs fans, he would be an over-priced 3rd pairing dman who if put in the right scenario (12-15 mins per game, 1st PK unit) would really help this team (he still hits like a truck, and usually leads his team in blocked shots).

My proposal:
Gionta & Diaz for Volchenkov and one of (Urbom, Tedenby, Merrill or Matteau).

If it had to be Merrill would it be a straight no?

Yep. Merrill will only be moved for a top line forward. He has top pairing defenseman written all over him

Is he still solid on the PK? Good shot blocker?

I get it if he has slowed down, but has he lost the things he used to do really well?

Mtl doesn't want tedenby ... We have enough small player why add more !! At least gionta will bring steady 20 goal and will bring leadership and experience with our you g player !! I think volchenkov can bounce back .

If volchenkov come our way u need to take kaberle , since nj is about to buy out vol then we should let them and sign volchenkov for less money or if they take kaberle then it would save nj in the long run since kaberle is 1 year left !

Gionta become more valuable since he only have one year left on is contract .. For a team that need a second line right winger with great leadership and that can put goal he's a great fit !! 5 million aight bad for 1 year ... He won't get the same return as iginla or jagr but it the same situation so I'm pretty sure we can get something interesting for Gio !

If Diaz would be on the market he would attract some attention .... Cheap and can put point and good defensively , Diaz is getting better and better so if someone want Diaz the. It will cost a late first or a urly second + b prospect

The Kaberle idea has some merit.

How does

Kaberle, Diaz and Gionta

for

Volchenkov, Urbom

Montreal saves its compliance buyout for either Volchenkov or Moen at the end of next year and gets a solid defence prospect.

New Jersey saves some money on their buyout by using Kaberle instead of Volchenkov and gets two very useful players in Diaz and Gionta.

Make sense?

Volchenkov + Boucher? We need some LW prospects desperately.

No chance we are moving Boucher or any forward prospect

oh god yes. Gionta for Salvador in a heartbeat. we throw in Volch for free

EDIT: and no to Boucher being moved. were not moving a kid that broke Stamkos franchise goal record. even if he ends up being average NHL-er, he could also be amazing

Kaberle, Diaz, Gionta

For

Volchenkov & Urbom

The more I think about it the more sense it makes.

Why Montreal does it: This will save them about $ 2 million against the cap and allows them to avoid using a compliance buyout this year. It also adds grit to their d corps (Volchenkov) and adds a very solid prospect in Urbom (Who reminds me of the Swedish Tinordi).

Why New Jersey Does it: They save $6 million in actual dollars and add two players that should help them immediately. The addition of Diaz could allow them to let Zidlicky go, while Gionta will be a nice addition into the top 6 of Kovy, Henrique, Zajac and Elias.

Honestly this is actually a great proposal. frees up cap for FAs, ditches the extra Defensemen, cancels the need for JVB to pay out Volch and adds some scoring with a player who knows our team.

Was Kaberle injured or healthy scratched this year? Only 10 games played

Taking Kaberle is the cost of getting rid of AV. A cheaper buyout for us.

These are not equal assets. That's like saying "Volchenkov for Diaz and one of Subban, Plekanec, Gionta, or Prust."

Gio and Diaz for Volchenkov and Teddy? I'd feel bad...we should at least buy you guys lunch at Dinosaur BBQ or something.

Oh well, if that's what you want then where do I sign? What time shall I drive them to Newark International? Hell I'd even do Gionta/Diaz for Volchenkov and Urbom...

Deal one hundred times over.
