Orpik

Hiller

I think this trade helps out both teams tremendously. It gives the ducks a gritty shutdown Dman that we've been lacking for quite sometime now. It gives the pens a solid goalie to potentially replace MAF or be a stellar back up. I'd love to hear your input. Thanks.

Ottawa would need at least a 2nd for this to happen.

As Anaheim duck fan I'd consider it too. We would have to find someone to take Allen or souray though, but a solid d is exactly what we need for fowler.

It's only a deal provided the pens get a coach that can instill a responsible system.

Seriously would consider.

We'd save money on goaltending and give a chance to a young guy like Gibson or Andersen. Personally I hope we are done with Hiller and use Fasth until we get a better starter. No hate towards Hiller at all, especially because he played well in the playoffs, I'd still prefer we get younger right now.

PIT would get a good goalie for a top 4 D, but I suppose their owner would need to be ready to buyout Flower.

I was expecting some stupid **** like Ryan and Fowler for Malkin, but this is actually pretty fair.

So does Fleury take a trip to WBS or did Vokoun retire? While Hiller certainly wouldn't be awful for Pittsburgh where does he fit on the team? He's an average goalie that can play above average at times with an awful blocker. Hiller won't survive long in Pittsburgh in any capacity if the team doesn't start playing better. Hiller wasn't the difference between Pittsburgh and Boston.

Would do.

Fowler-Orpik
Beauchemin-Souray
Allen-Vatanen

Lindholm replaces Souray when he inevitably gets injured.

Fasth
Anderson/veteran backup if Anderson isn't ready

Does Fowler play the right side at all? Orpik's mostly played the left side.

He can play on the right, but he's much better on the left.

BB was saying when Fowler plays on the right he tends to drift too far to the left, basically isolates his D partner, so he's better off playing on the left side rather then right.

Orpik did have a solid season, he really did (especially the playoffs). We should buy Fleury out and Hiller seems like a very good complement to Vokoun as they could split time in net. I donīt know if I would do this, but as a PIT fan I would definitely at least think about it.

Value is pretty fair and it fits the need of both teams (especially the Ducks need). Pens D would face a tough challenge without Orpik, but the invasion of young guys like Harrington/Dumoulin/Despres cam make it easier. We would also need to re-sign Murray if Orpik goes.

i think it's a very fair deal. both sides would benefit. unlike many big-hitting d-men Orpik is a pretty good skater. Orpik has plenty of experience playing with premier PMD. he's been partnered with Gonchar, Letang (ugh) and Martin. he could definitely take less penalties (but he isn't exactly in the realm of Souray).

I think the only scenario where the Ducks trade Hiller is if Fasth clearly beats him for the starting job before the trade deadline. I don't expect it to happen, but who knows? Fair deal, though.
