I know this is defensive D-men, but how do Coburn, Garrison, PK Subban and Karlsson make the list and Phaneuf doesn't?

So, McDonagh made the list, where Staal should have been. STAAL IS BETTER THAN HIM

Luke Schenn over Phaneuf is a bigger surprise.

Did Marc Staal just become worthless? He is more than certainly a top 10 as a Defensive D

This is kinda why "top ten" is useless. He can still be great defensively, but if there are ten defensemen who are better than him, he's not top ten.

I am a huge OEL fan, but for a shutdown role?

Yes keith over OEL at the moment. And i think OEL is a great all around player, and will get even better.

This is coming from a canuck fan to, why are people shocked keith is ranked 7th for his shut down ability when were ranking purely defense?

Shows how these polls are usually just popularity contests.

Also, Keith at #7?? He's a great, number 1 D-man but strictly defensively he's behind guys like Hamhuis, Staal, Vlasic etc.

Well I voted hamhuis and would have also strongly considered staal, and vlassic looked very impressive this year but I will need to see more of him for myself, and willie mitchell is also extremely underrated as a shutdown guy, but I still dont get how its shocking result. Keith is a very solid defender in his own zone and is proving it once again right now at a very high level.

That game he missed, you really noticed how much of an adventure seabrook is in his own zone at times when Keith was suspended.

There aren't ten guys in the league better defensively than he. He's top 5. McDonagh getting voted in before him is a joke.

A few years ago Staal was top 5 defensively, but Girardi and McDonagh are better at this point. I think all 3 could make the top 10 though.

Vlasic. This kid has absolutely no flaws to his defensive game, but continues to be unbelievably underrated. No one should blink if someone had him 3rd or 4th on this list.

No, they're definitely not. Staal > McDonagh > Girardi with a large gap between Staal/McDonagh and Girardi. McDonagh may very well end up being better defensively in time than Staal but he's not quite there yet. People tend to not see this because Staal has been injured for a majority of the last two years and being an elite defensive defensemen is harder to track than an offensive one, especially when they didn't play in the playoffs, which is the best time for neutral observers to get to watch teams/players they don't usually see.

This list honestly just looks like "best defensemen who also has offensive flair". Not really a good defensive list, though I think the top 3 is solid.

I gotta say that keith got no business in that list, he's part of every month highlight reel, being turned upside down left from right. He's horrible in 1 vs 1.

At this point they are like I said.

I agree Staal was the best on the Rangers before his injury.

I also agree this list is not very good.
