Too lazy to read the thread, I'm sure someone has said what I am about to say, but I'm gonna say it anyway.

Zero point in the Leafs doing this. Gardiner has proven that he is an NHL talent and will only get better. The 7th overall pick sounds great, but that doesn't mean he will be.

Bingo.

No reason to go backwards when the Leafs are competing now. If the Leafs wanted to address their centre situation, they could try and package Gardiner for an asset that is further along from a developmental perspective.

If Monahan or Lindholm are still available I hope the Oilers I would make the pick. Otherwise, I think that I would make this deal and try like crazy to get another pick in the top 15 to target Lazar.,
Where is that quote does it say anything about the pick being the 7th overall? It just says a pick. I highly doubt there is anyone, anywhere that would turn this down from a Leafs fan perspective. And this is coming from a Leafs fan that is a fan of Phaneuf.

If Toronto trades Gardiner, it is to get a #1C....not a potential 1C

Maybe if it was Drouin (despite a winger, prob the best player in the draft) or Barkov i'd consider, but you won't see those guys at #7

Gagner also isn't the answer at 1C, and we already have Kadri as our "2C with potential". I just don't see a deal here involving Gardiner (tho TOR and EDM might make good trading partners in some smaller deals)

7th is not worth Gards or even close to it...

Two way streets.
No, you haven't.

And you obviously don't understand team needs. The Leafs have Kessel/Lupul/JVR/Kulemin/MacArthur/Frattin on the top-nine for the wing. It's their deepest position. The Leafs need another top-pairing D to play with Phaneuf; they don't need to lose their best D. Their only other major need is a #1C. That offer has none of that. This is a lot like the Yakupov for Letang offers. Why would Pittsburgh trade their #1D for another forward?

love leaf fan their homer glasses. One good year does not make him a proven NHLer. Sorry, proven NHLers have back to back complete seasons

Assuming all of that is true (highly debatable), why would you want to trade him for a 7th overall pick? Do 22 year old, 1st pair dmen grow on trees in toronto?

We do not want to trade him

The deal that makes sense is Franson + 21st for 7th..

That is awful.

It's basically Gardiner + 21 overall for 7th overall.

The thinking I believe is that having both Gardiner and Rielly in the system means it makes sense to move one or the other.

The Leafs would never trade Gardiner for futures, just too far outside of reality for many reasons.

They would consolidate their spare assets to move up (lots of quality D in the system), but I doubt Edmonton is looking for that.

Just no sense in speculating about a deal involving Gardiner. There's zero incentive for the Leafs to move him as it will be a potential disaster waiting to happen unless there's a clear upgrade coming the other way.

There's really nobody on the Oilers that the Leafs would want to lose Gardiner for. There are geat young players on the Oilers to be certain, but the Leafs have no need for scoring wingers right now and would rather have Gardiner.

Yeah. That sounds about right. We can give you Correy Potter if it helps.

So the Leafs are going to trade Gardiner for a pick who has a small chance of turning out to be as good as Gardiner. Sounds like a no brainer!

Valuewise, it's not bad. I like Gardiner a lot, probably more than most Oiler fans do but if the Oilers deal the pick straight up for a player, i prefer that it be in a package for an established player like Yandle or somebody like that. Gardiner is still too much of a wildcard to risk dealing this pick especially considering how strong this draft is supposed to be.

Also, i really REALLY want the Oilers to draft a center. It's a huge organizational need. There are a lot of centers at the top of this draft that really fill that need so i prefer that they either stay at 7 and get Monahan/Lindholm or trade up for Monahan/Barkov or if worse comes to worse, trade down for Lazar/Horvat.

No from a Leafs perspective.

Why not just keep Gardiner and see how he plays over the course of a full season??

I don't understand the concept of trading away an up-and-coming player for a pick that may take 2-3 years to develop.

Just draft the BPA at 21 and be done with it.

So the Oilers should trade their pick, who could either end up better than Gardiner, or be used to leverage a better player than Gardiner. Makes sense to me.

I'd consider it as an Oiler fan. It would really depend upon who's left around there

Anyone that watched him play in the playoffs saw what this guy is capable of, he is ready to break out now. I would not trade him for the 7th pic-not a chance. Gardiner is worth more than that.
