Buf-LA Proposal

What would it take to get Alex Zhitnik back in LA?

How about...

To LA: Alex Zhitnik
To Buffalo: Ian Lapperiere and Aaron Rome

LA gets a 3-4 defenseman which they desperately need. Buffalo gets veteran leadership and a promising young defensive prospect as well. It also dumps a little bit of salary for Buffalo freeing up some cash to go after Satan heavier.

Right now, the Sabres won't be trading thier number one defenseman away. Maybe at the end of the season a trade like this might happen. I don't have any particular interest in Lapperier and the Sabres' lines are stocked with forwards as is. So we don't really need him. Rome seems like he has a chance to be a good defenseman in the NHL so I wouldn't mind the Sabres acquiring him. But I doubt the Sabres would make this trade. Once again, although a good defensive prospect would be nice to pick up, we already have too many forwards.

i think that it would take more than that to get zhitnik out of buffalo; can they afford to deal a defenseman in any case?

The talk in Buffalo is that the team should hold onto Zhitnik until the trade dealine. If we are in the hunt for a playoff spot, he stays, if not he's off to the highest bidder. I forget the specific details of the story, but Darcy has asked for the likes of Joe Sakic and Jiri Fischer & Pavel Datsuk when Detroit and Colorado have called in the past.

I think that it will take a similar package to the Schneider one that you received last year. I'm going to offer up the following based on a deadline acquisition.

To LA: Alex Zhitnik
To Buffalo: Peter Kanko
Dave Steckel
1st round pick

Reasoning, LA gets a #2 D-man for them for the playoff run. Buffalo gets a RW who can play on the boards, and a teammate of Derek Roy. The Sabres need size down the center and Steckel would provide that. He hasn't developed as well, and they now have the even bigger Brian Boyle. Plus the pick.

The deal could also be tweaked to the following depending on how things could pan out this year...

To LA: Zhitnik and Curtis Brown
To Buffalo: Tim Gleason, Dustin Brown, and a 1st round pick

the first trade could be doable if you changed the 1st to a 3rd...

im probably in the minority here , but I think Zhitnik is past his prime and does not have alot of trade value. I would rather have Rome.
i said i would be in the minority.
