Rumours are circulating around Orange County that Niklas Kronwall may be available for trade prior to the 2013 HFNHL Draft. Sources within the organization say that there have been two separate offers which have apparently intrigued the team. With an excellent contract, the stalwart Dman could bring a hefty price to the team in terms of young assets. While the team is certainly still in contention for a championship, they still need to keep an eye on the future. The trade and sign if Ryan Suter certainly made the option viable, when before it would not have been considered.
In other Duck news, rumblings are that a minor trade has been agreed upon and will be sent forward to the league once the Stanley Cup Final between Edmonton and Florida is complete. The word is an established player and prospect goes each way in a deal with an unknown team.
Young Nail Yakupov's name has also been mentioned, but rumours have that as being a pure hockey trade based on the long term viability of the franchise. Odds place it that he is likely to stay in Anaheim unless teams step up their offers.
The team is also certainly looking for a backup goalie behind Pekka Rinne for the upcoming season. GM Larsen has indicated that Nik Khabibulin will be testing free agency. This doesn't preclude a return to Anaheim, but he wants to test the open market.
Anaheim has also signed all key RFA's and UFA's. Of note, Todd Bertuzzi will be on his way to free agency. He was a great waiver pickup for the Ducks especially on the power play, but finances certainly played a role in him testing the market.
