Ideal 2013-2014 Lineups

Post your ideal lineups for opening night, and the moves you made to get there.

•Sign Brad Richards + Valterri Filppula as UFA's
•Trade away Daley + #10 + BOS 1st to move up and select Nichushkin
•If we can't trade up, then select Shinkaruk or Wennberg at #10
•Buyout Aaron Rome

Benn-Richards-Eriksson
Whitney-Filppula-Nichushkin
Cole-Eakin-Chiasson
Roussel-Fiddler-MacDermid

Dillon-Goligoski
Morrow-Gonchar
Connauton-Robidas/Larsen

Lehtonen
Bachman

I like our forward lines, because it gives us flexibility. We'd have 8 forwards very capable of playing top 6 minutes.

Also, I chose Nichushkin over Monahan/Lindholm because I think Nichushkin is truly a game breaker. Yes, we need centers, but Monahan looks to be a 2nd line C, and we have that in Faksa.

I think he means (this early)it's just so much to speculate with the draft and free agency still to happen, then we having training camp to see how our prospects look.

Ok, then I guess what I meant to post this as, is what would you like the stars to do in the grand scheme of things.

Aren't we discussing all of this in the offseason thread?

It's fine for there to be a place for people get line combos out of their system.

Haha this place is for me then, I cant go a day without making line combos up

Right now, Id like to to see something simple:

Benn - Richards - Eriksson
Whitney - Filppula - Chiasson
Roussel - Eakin - Cole
MacDermid - Fiddler - Garbutt/AHL call up

Dillon - Goligoski
Gonchar - Daley (if hes not traded) or AHL call up
Connauton - Robidas
Larsen/Rome

Lehtonen
Nhilstrop

Filppula really isn't a Center.

Whoops! Totally forgot, and I love his play so I would replace him with either MacDermid or the Garbutt/Callup

Do we see Matt Fraser fitting in?

Not sure I want Richards back, given his paycheck.

Richards would have to negotiate a new contract and doubtfully would command all that much.

I see him starting in the AHL and then being one of the first few callups to any injuries in the top 6. I doubt we see him in a bottom six role in the NHL. I feel like Nill is going to only bring up players to fit in their roles and have an opportunity to succeed. Fraser never really got that great of chance last year to make an offensive impact.

I honestly think Fraser will be traded in a deal for another need. We have wingers like him up the wazoo.

Exactly.

It's hard to get a read on Fraser's ability when Gully had him playing 4th line grinder role. I personally am not a fan of Fraser, but he wasn't given a fair shake last year.

He played a lot in the top six after the deadline and looked absolutely terrible. He looked utterly clueless in every way..he has nothing at all but that shot. Maybe he does have some hockey sense and just wasn't comfortable yet, but he did get a shot. The one thing that didn't make sense was he didn't get PP time, which is probably where he'll always be most useful.

Yea, Fraser absolutely needs PP time. That being said, his top 6 time was certainly underwhelming. Here's hoping another offseason and a new coach an help his game out.

He is a natural center who strives on both sides of the puck and is born to create and think the plays. He is better off in the middle than on the wing IMO.

I would really like to see Jeff Blashill be hired as our coach next season. He has a history of successfully developing and working with young players and may be leading Grand Rapids to a Calder Cup trophy this year. Not to mention the Detroit connection with Nill.

Aside from coaching, I would change much to most of the proposed lines, but I do think Chiasson will start the year on the 3rd line to gain more experience before taking on a full-tim top 6 role. I'm hoping we sign a 2nd line C (Weiss or Filppula) and a top 6 winger (one of Horton, Clowe, Bickell, Stalberg, Elias, Iginla etc.) all contingent on price of course.

Whitney - Benn - Chiasson
Eriksson - Gagner/Couturier - Horton
Roussel - Eakin - Cole
Me - Fiddler - Nystrom

Dillon
The Gonch
Goligoski
Ference
Daley
Oleksiak
Morrow
Robidas

(One of those guys are gone in exchange for one of Gagner or Couturier)

If we draft an NHL ready center:

Benn - Couturier/NHL ready center - Horton
Whitney - Gagner/NHL ready center - Eriksson
Roussel - Eakin - Chiasson
Me/Nystrom - Fiddler - Cole

I thought Gagner played LW? Maybe not?

He has played wing here but he is the #2 center behind Hopkins and ahead of Horcoff. I don't think he's the answer for a #1 center for us but he's a good #2.
