The toughest part here is that the Leafs know exactly what they are going to get out of Jake Gardiner because we've seen him play in the NHL. The 2 variables are resting on Morgan Rielly who is purely offensive and Sean Monahan who looks to be a solid player.

I have patience, that's why I'm not advocating a gamble job on getting that center now. I just don't see the logic of taking a step backward right now that may or may not address our needs.

It's not zero patience, it's a viewpoint based on the fact that he wasn't overly impressive, necessarily, in his viewings. Rielly has a lot of growing to do. He hasn't made Gardiner expendable, and the idea that he will is myth. You need more than one player like Rielly and Gards to run your back end. We have 2, and that's what you call a "good problem"

Rielly needs time. People are allowed to not get carried away, in fact, it's refreshing. It stops threads like this from popping up.

I wouldn't even trade Franson for that pick, straight up.

Yep, Jake's biggest challenge is upper body strength. He is too easily lost in puck battles in corners, out muscled in front of the net. People only concentrate on the razzle dazzle, given that he is 23, you would expect more from Jake.

Which is a real possibility with any 18 year old draftee.

Not saying a year of AHL wouldn't be a bad thing, but the thing about Horvat and Monahan that you need not to worry about is their size, something the Leafs were about Kadri, otherwise looking back at his first training camp he was very good and may have been ready.
First round centers like Brayden Schenn, Ryan Johansen, Nick Bjugstad, Cody Hodgson, Colin Wilson, Joe Colborne, Josh Bailey drafted between 2008 and 2010 are still finding their games as NHLers and above average NHLers.

Before the playoffs, I would have said yes (particularly for Monahan).

After the playoffs, no. Just can't risk losing a talent like Gardiner over a non-sure thing (even if Monahan has low-bust potential).

No one said all prospects develop at the same rate, just pointing out that some develop sooner than others.

Definitely not their best defenseman, that goes to Kimmo Timonen. And no, we didn't miss him and his sweet playmaking for the opposition. We were only missing what people want Luke Schenn to be.

None of your examples are really comparable as prospects to Horvat, Lindholm and Monahan.

You don't think Landeskog is comparable? How so?

I think Monahan and Horvat are just as good if not better than Landeskog was in their draft year.

All 3 share one thing that will help them, they were all physically mature at 18.

If Barkov slips to 6th, Flames will take him.

Landeskog was said to have a man's body before he was drafted. I haven't heard anything like that about guys like Horvat etc

You would think so.

I'm not sure what direction Calgary goes in though. To me, they are the biggest question mark because they have the 3 picks and could really just take the best player available in each time because they have so many needs.

I voted yes but only because we have Reilly and to a lesser extent Franson . I know Rielly is still only a prospect but we don't have any high impact forward prospects and you have to give to get .

I don't think however the Oilers are truly interested in moving the pick and if they did they'd be looking for a big physical D with some puck moving skills . They have already added Schultz and I don't see them moving the pick for a similar D .

Bo Horvat 6 1/2 ft 206 lbs

Gabriel Landeskog 6'1 204 lbs.

Just saying.

Sure, why not. Lets trade Kadri for Nurse too. Can never trade enough guys who are NHL'ers for guys who might be. That way, in a couple years, we can trade a winger for a goaltender and then start again. Also, change our name to the Toronto "might be old enough to drink some day legally".

Probably should have saved the time and mentioned the bird in my hand thing

Hell why stop there, why trade Franson for Seth Jones when Jones has not proved he can play in the NHL as Franson can.
