Fluery - 5m

Total 33.2m

Going to be really interesting to see how they fill that roster out. I can't see them keeping Letang but frankly I hope they do because they won't be able to fill out the roster with good defensemen/goaltending.
True but those players have value and can easily be moved IMO. And they're allowed to 2 buyouts over the next 2 summers if they can't move any of them to save their butts. They're lucky to be stacked on D prospects which will come in handy for them over the long run with their minimum contracts. They can let guys like Orpik and Martin go

If the Pens resign Letang to anything near what he's speculated to get, Shero should be considered one of the worst GMs in the league. The price tag that comes along with that core is ridiculous.

Maybe they should package Crosby instead... I doubt they move either guy. They'll gut their entire roster before doing that. I can't see Neal being around much longer, and Letang is as good as gone. Those two alone almost pay for Malkin.

Trade Conversation with Oilers Fans

I have been talking back and forth with Oilers fans and am one of the few (quite a few of them agree as well) who think that Peverley and Boychuk solve two issues for the Oilers going forward.

To EDM:
F Rich Peverley
D Johnny Boychuk

To BOS:

D Oscar Klefbom (2011 17th overall Swedish defenseman)

or

7th Overall (with the Bruins 3rd added to the deal)

or

D Martin Marincin (6'5" Slovak defenseman) with another late pick to the Bruins

Do any of these entice you? I admit I like all three and would HOPE that one of the two D prospects would develop into a player of Boychuk's skill.

The cap has the Bruins against the wall and these two would add a ton of playoff depth and experience to a young Oilers team while the Bruins would only have to see them twice a year!

Either one of the defensemen would play in Providence next year.

If we can get the 7th from them and be able to draft someone like Nurse I will be happy. I know people like Boychuk and he's scored in the playoffs this year but i'm not a fan of his contract and his boneheaded plays.

I'd focus on Marincin along with Paajarvi (who's currently an RFA).

I think too many put too much on the fact that Boychuk is Albertan and that his trade there would be a perfect fit. I don't see it that way. Johnny knows that even if he lands in Edmonton, his home town, he could be later move to improve the team.

I like him just where he is now. He's a defensively responsible defenceman who dishes out hard clean hits and has a rocket of a shot from the point. I'd rather deal Bartkowski if Edmonton is looking for a younger PMD. Krug and Hamilton provide good offense from the back line. I look at Bart as more expendable.

How would we replace Boychuk's thump?

They don't want a PMD. They want a partner for Schultz who can hit hard, skate well, play defensively and have a cannon from the point. Johnny Boychuk to a tee with two SCF appearances. Peverley on the 3rd line playing a strong defensive role also makes a lot of sense.

Somewhere the Bruins will lose a desirable player from this roster due to the cap problems, the emergence of Bartowski, Krug, Hamilton, Soderberg, Spooner and Knight.

LeBrun says the Bruins have been talking to Bergeron's representatives about an extension all year and to expect an 8 year contract extension for Bergeron to get done this off-season.

Initial thought: seems a bit weird to give an 8 year extension to someone with as many concussions as Bergeron. Maybe that security gets the Bruins a bit of a discount on the cap hit?

Also, if you enjoy seeing Zdeno Chara punch Sidney Crosby in the mouth like I do...stick around for the end of the video.

I like either the Marincin package or the 7th overall package, just don't want to see Boychuk leave. It would be an awesome deal cap wise, especially with us taking no money back (assuming these deals are what the final deal is). That's one I would have to think about. No clue what Chia would do, though.

Pretty sure the Oilers wouldn't do either of the 1st two deals. They aren't dealing Klefbom unless it's a BIG piece coming back and as much as I like JB, he and a salary dump isn't value to move a promising young piece from a rebuilding team. Same with the #7 pick. Just a little too high I'd think for them to move it, get closer to the #10+ mark and I think it's a little more feasible.

Don't know much about Marincin, but probably the most feasible of the 3. Wonder if they wouldn't want to move some forwards rather than D though. Maybe Zharkov or Pitlick, maybe even PRV as someone mentioned earlier.

Holmgren is like some sort of insane artist who keeps adding yet another layer of paint or cutting off half the canvas. "NOW it's perfect! No, wait! NOW it's perfect!"

Reportedly he's going to buy out Breire and Bryzgalov. Bobrovsky winning the Vezina is just too perfect.

$5.25m per year, wow that's a lot of money. Would have been a good deal for Streit like 3 years ago, but now it just looks bad.
