Glad we could debunk that tweet so that we don't have to waste time with it.

Actually, I've read your posts and your opinion actually has a lot more weight with me than the blogosphere!

@DarrenDreger - I still think that there is a fit for Luongo in Florida. But Vancouver would have to take a contract back.

No one will trade for Luongo, not even if Vancouver keeps half his salary. The contract is so bad that no one will touch it. Dipietro<Brygalov<Luongo in terms quality of goaltending, but the one constant is their enormous contracts. MG has only two options, buyout Luongo or trade Schneider.

So his contract is so bad, that no one would take him at a 2.65 million cap hit/3.35 million salary?

The 21st highest salary in the league, and the 26th highest cap hit?

I don't think you have a very credible/valuable opinion on this topic, so I am opting to block you on this topic as I don't think you can contribute to any sort of positive discussion.

If Vancouver is going to get a future oriented package, it will likely be done at the draft (where teams can say "the player we want got picked already, so we will deal Pick X, and Prospect Y).
Actually they have a bit longer to work it out. They cant do any buyouts until 48 hours after the finals have finished and go until 5pm on July 4th.

"BUYOUTS
During the ordinary course buyout periods in June 2013 and June 2014, teams will be permitted two compliance buyouts. Compliance buyouts follow the same formula as ordinary-course buyouts either 1/3 or 2/3 of actual salary depending on age but do not count against the cap. In 2013, the buyout period begins 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends and concludes on July 4 at 5 p.m."

Thank you for clarifying for me.

I was under the impression there was a 48 hour window TO buy out players, not a 48 hour window UNTIL you can buy out players.

This year's FA class will be a lot better once the buyout period is over.

At the draft:

Florida
Roberto Luongo
Keith Ballard*

Vancouver
Ed Jovanoski*
Scottie Upshall
Mike Weaver
Marcel Goc
2nd Round Pick 2013
3rd Round Pick

* Ballard/Jovanoski. This is under the assumption that Florida wouldn't want to buy out Ballard, and would actually use him. Otherwise, subtract Ballard/Jovo.
Vancouver buys out either Ballard/Jovo as well as Upshall.

I'd do it from a Vancouver POV.

Would love the first trade, 2nd one not so much. Would rather go after someone like Loui Eriksson or Bobby Ryan than Simmonds.

I like the first trade.

Second trade: Edler for Ryan

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
Ryan - Kesler - Burrows
Higgins - Goc - Hansen
Sestito - Gaunce - Weise

I just don't think the first trade would work...I don't think the panthers would bite

$6,714,000 through '17-18. FLA fans have said they can't afford Luongo, yet VAN fans keep on shoveling him down their throats. They also have a good young goalie coming up, paying Luongo that kind of money to "mentor" him and ride the pine isn't worth it.

"early-mid round picks" = 31st pick of the coming draft? It's closest to 1st rounder as possible.

Very, very sorry I disagree with your proposal.

any smart GM will wait until the buyout window is almost closed and then send gillis a low ball offer.

You'd think Vancouver should set the buyout period as the deadline for this trade, otherwise they lose the unlikely option of buying out Loungo or whatever cap dump may be coming back.

Wild guess: Holmgren goes crazy and gets miller - Buffalo throws an offer for luongo for a cap dump (Leino type player)

Horcoff for Luongo makes sense.

Vancouver needs a 3C and Horcoff, albeit overpaid can fill in that role. BC boy too.

I have to say it's amusing how Dreger is again a good source (for VAN), now that he says Luongo could go to team X, but at the deadline he was a villain and a bum.

Does the pendulum swing the other way again, if he says anything that is not usable by VAN fans to make Luongo proposals?

I can't imagine Luongo going to Florida.

In all fairness he is still s****** on him by saying Van is going to have to take a cap-dump...

Florida is also dumping 7-15 million dollars in salary by losing Upshall/Jovo.

And even at that, its "a late 1st rounder" and a couple rental depth players which I don't think is a huge asking price.

I guess we just agree to disagree.

I wouldn't be interested. If we bring in a guy whos cap hit is higher than Luongo, it likely would mean we would have to buy out Booth as well.
