Pittsburgh & Nashville

Pittsburgh: Weber

Nashville: Letang + Niskanen + Kennedy + 1st round pick 14

I think Nashville would have a great shot at locking Letang up long term, Kennedy is still a RFA, and Nisk still has one year left on his deal at a very cap friendly hit.

Nashville would get deeper and could lock both these guys up long term, Kennedy is a nice 3rd line option and 2nd line plug here and there.

Pittsburgh needs to move some things around and change a lot of pieces.

Thoughts?

Want Weber? Malkin is going the other way or no deal.

Nashville aren't giving Weber up lightly.

well, we've seen more than our fair share of lousy Malkin offers. i don't blame anyone for returning the favor.

This is still better than some of the Malkin proposals. At least the Pens are actually giving up something of value. But still, Hell to the No

Letang (signed), Bennett, 1st round pick(s), one of the young d-men (Maata, Pouliot, Harrington, Dumoulin).... coughFleurycough...

But seriously, would something have to revolve around the first part?

You gotta give to get. I don't why you think throwing Kennedy and Niskanen in there makes it a fair deal.

Yeah, and the Preds would have to add. A lot. Weber won't be getting moved, so let's just close this thread up. They aren't going to pay him $27 million to trade him.

A lot of these threads feature players who won't be moved.

You aren't going to get better pieces for him. There's only a handful of players that are better than him (Crosby, Malkin, Ovi, Stamkos, and such), and none would be moved for Weber. Letang is a very solid piece, but the rest is trash. It's basically Weber for a slightly lesser piece and a bunch of crap.

Exactly. There is no reason for us to trade Weber, period.

Malkin straight across.

Maybe this could work (if he asked out): Letang + Bennet + Depres + Dumolin + 1st

Come on, that's a worse proposal than the OP. The difference between Letang and Weber isn't a young top-6 winger, a young top-4 D, a young NHL ready D and a 1st. That's a bad offer.

You have to overpay to pry someone like Weber away from Nashville (if this was Pittsburgh going after him, yes it's not real, we get it). Letang isn't the caliber d-man Weber is so automatically straight up it's not a fair deal. Pittsburgh's got a lot of up and coming offensive d-man and what they need is a powerhouse physical d-man who can set the tone. So what do you add next? Nashville always seems like it needs offense so insert Bennett, a young top-6 potential winger. Kennedy doesn't fit here. I still don't think it's fair yet. So throw in a potential young stud d-man such as those listed above to have Nashville rebuild their d in the future as Letang =/= Weber. And to top it off, throw in a 1st rounder as Pittsburghs lately been a perennial late round finisher so no big hurt there. Maybe Nashville throws in a late rounder.

I think the biggest hiccup in this trade would be giving Nashville enough offensive support to make them believe they can get a fair deal.

Just my .02. Take it for what it's worth.

I don't get why Malkin straight up for Weber is always looked down upon as such a terrible deal for Pitt. Makes a lot of sense to me.

it would be a steal for Pit since malkin could play his one year in Nashville and then move on

Weber isnt being traded. not even for Crosby. thats the truth of the matter. Preds will have already paid him 27 million before he can be traded. no way do they trade him after that.

Neither do I. Weber is clearly one of the top 5 D-men in the league and that isn't changing any time soon. Malkin is clearly a top 3 forward, but forward isn't Pitt's problem.

I'd trade anyone on the Flyers for Weber. Only one I hesitate on is G.

No thanks from the Penguins. they're gonna have a hard time paying Letang 6mil+ and still icing a decent lineup, last thing they would want to do is take on MORE money, becoming even more top-heavy and trading away EVEN MORE picks and a big chunk of their depth.

and as for Malkin for Weber, it might just be my personal preference, but if Malkin is getting traded i'd rather it be for multiple roster players/picks/prospects so the Pens can build a crazy deep roster in the future.

Agreed with this, in a vacuum sure sign me up, in reality though if Tanger is traded it's because they can't afford to keep him around and if that's the case then they can't afford to trade him for a guy who will be making similar money to that while also shipping out other cheap pieces.

Makes no sense Nashville trades Weber this year. Because of Philly they are basically forced to give him 13M upfront this season before he plays a game and can't trade him till after that

The team the trades for Weber then just has to pay him his 1M salary to play the season

If Nashville decides to trade Weber it will be just before July 1, 2014

The Predators love the fact that they have an elite defenseman signed for 10 years. Especially given that the experience of being unable to retain one of those in Suter even for enormous amounts of money, and coming relatively close to losing Weber as well, they are not going to trade him even for great value when the biggest incoming contributors aren't signed for at least 5 years, even if they are named Malkin or Letang.
