Negotiating rights to Filppula and White

Red Wings probably won't re-sign Valtteri Filppula or Ian White. How much would their negotiating rights be worth on the market? Would Calgary, for instance, give up a 5th for Filppula?

Fippula is basically a third-line checker with a bit of offence at this point with a lot of mileage on his body. Habs offer Moen.

Any idea what Filippula and White are looking for as UFAs?

Also, want Roy and/or Raymond's rights?

Dallas might be in the hunt for Filppula.

I would say at least $5.0 mill x5 years for Filppula rumor has it that he wants at least $5.5 million over 5 years and I would say for White maybe $3.0 million x 3 years give or take a little I would think a 5th rd pick for Filppulas rights would be a fair offer maybe the same for White as well.

Yeah that's pretty much a gimmee that Dallas will have strong interest in Filppula especially since Jim Nill is there new GM now and if Nill was willing to give $5.0 million to Gonchar then it's safe to assume that he would give Filppula that much as well.

Exactly throughout his career Filppula has put up 3rd line numbers and as such Detroit would only offer him 3rd line money, I will be brutaly honest any team that gives Filppula $5.0+ Million will be sorely dissapointed he's not worth that kind of money and besides if he cant put up big numbers with the likes of Datsyuk and Zetterberg then he's not going to put up big numbers any where he plays. Filppula at best might give you 20 Goals and 20 Assists 40 points if your lucky but those numbers dont deserve to be paid $5.0+ million a year maybe $4.0 million at the most.

they are worth very low end conditional picks only, same as bozak, mcarthur, lapierre, raymond etc etc etc

Yep Flip surely did'nt help himself having the worst year of his career 9 goals 8 assist 17 points in 41 games not great for trying to cash in on a big pay day but yet teams out there will over pay for him just based alone on his 2011-2012 season. And will be sorely dissapointed when he continues to be a no show.

Ottawa could do a lot worse than adding White on the backend and Filpulla at forward.

True I believe that with all the teams out there that both White and Filppula would most likely thrive the most with Ottawa, I could see the Senators having strong interest in them both.

Who is number 51? I feel like I should know this lol. That's a good point actually. If Val can't play wing, I could be wrong about trying to get him. If he's adept at wing, then it's probably a better scenario. The only guy I can see moving to wing easily is Zibanejad, but the preference appears to be for him to play C.

EDIT: Number 51 must be Zack Smith - who is number 15.

I agree. Regin did well when Mac made him a 2C for a while - then he bottomed out. The difference between Regin and Filpulla's talent level is obviously enormous, so I think Mac could push Filpulla into a good role for this team.

White is an intriguing one as well. I doubt Mac knows too much about him as I think he came over to Detroit when Mac left to coach us, but he fits the mould of a guy who can move the puck, yet not sacrifice defence to do it.

Did he play that way for Detroit?

Really? He's only 29. He had a great 2011-2012 season. He was not very good this year, but I think he could rebound. I'd like him on the Flyers for around $4M.

If he wanted to make 4 million he would have already got paid in Detroit in my opinion. Filppula either wants bigger opportunity or a huge payday, Philly beats Detroit really in neither of those regards, especially since you're likely in cap hell. Just don't see this fit at all.

On the topic at large, I don't think they will get much of anything. Filppula wants to test the market and White just spent half the season benched because he was a turnover machine and then back talked the coaches and organization about being benched for being a no talent *** clown for a good two weeks. One of the stranger things I have watched happen was just how terrible White played and then him making the situation worse by basically saying his coach was wrong and he wasn't turning over the puck too much and would continue to play the exact same way if he came back in.

Filppula had an off-year, with basically only 3rd line minutes. On his breakout season, he played with Zetterberg on the 2nd line and he sure did put up some points. $4M sounds about right.

I agree with this. I wasn't saying he'd take $4M. Just saying that I don't understand why the poster said he was damaged goods and that I would take him for a reasonable price.

You're wrong here. We aren't in cap hell even remotely. Pronger is going on LTIR until his contract is up. Bryzgalov and Briere are easy buyout candidates, and we can trade Meszaros to free up $4M at any point. We are fine in terms of cap space. Not that we would want to sign Filppula for $5.5-6M because he hasn't proven he's worth that much.
