Toronto Free Agent Predictions

Just looking at our Roster, we've got a lot of Free Agents this summer. I thought it would be fun to try and predict salaries and if they'll stay. Also, predicting new players to the Organization.

Kadri, Nazem » 3 Years @ 3 mil per.

Komarov, Leo » GONE (KHL)

Colborne, Joe » 2 Years @ 1.25 mil per

McLaren, Frazer » 4 years at 0.9 mil per

MacArthur, Clarke » Not Re-signed

Bozak, Tyler » Not Re-signed

Orr, Colton » Not Re-signed

Gunnarsson, Carl » 2 years at 2.6 mil per

Franson, Cody » 2 years at 3.5 mil per

Fraser, Mark » 3 years at 1.5 mil per

O'Byrne, Ryan » Not Re-signed

Kostka, Mike » Not Re-signed

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Clarkson » 2 years at 3.2 mil per
Manny Malhotra » 3 years at 1.6 mil per

if i was a gm who had to give bozak 5.5 i'd fire myself. i'd rather miss the playoffs next year than sign bozak at 5.5 million dollars.

what a delusional moron.

4 mil is *more* than fair.

this isnt the original I was talking about, but it says that he was at 5-5.5 here but a more recent one said that him and nonis were going to try and get a deal done or something along those lines

Here's my take:

Kadri = 2 years 3.5M
Colborne = 2 years 1.25M (1st year being 2-way)
McLaren = 3 years 1M
MacArthur = Not re-signed (though I'm still on the fence on this)
Bozak = 5 years 4.5M
Orr = Not re-signed
Gunnarsson = 3 years 3M
Franson = 4 years 4M
Fraser = 3 years 1.5M
O'Byrne = 1 year 1.5M
Kostka = Not re-signed

UFA

Clarkson = 4 years 3.5M (if MacArthur isn't re-signed, my guess is they still prefer Mac)

As a side note, I think they are going to trade Grabo and Liles.

i'd be happy with bozak at 4 mil.

i don't want grabo playing at all next year. we should trade him or buy him out.

so we've got mcclement and kadri. we need to sign 2 more centres IMO.

and there just isn't that much out there. sure, we could trade for one, but that would mean giving something up.

we can sign bozak at 4 but we still need to sign one more. hopefully we'll sign one of ribeiro or weiss as well.

this way, bozak and mcclement will play the bottom six. kadri and whoever we sign can play the top six.

if we don't sign bozak, we're stuck with grabo... or we'll have to put colborne in a role that he may not be ready for.

bozak does a lot of things well... i think he's a very solid 3rd line guy who can jump into a second or first line role if needed.

i'm thinking that we agree on something between 4.2 and 4.5 for maybe 4 or 5 years. if he wants 5.5, i'd still do that for a 1 year contract since we do desperately need him for next year.

i'm thinking that 4.2 or 4.5 will get the deal done.... even if other teams are willing to pay him 5, i'm thinking he'll take the deal to stay with the leafs.

if we can only sign one centre, then colborne could play on the 4th line and mcclement could play on the 3rd. but bozak/mcclement is a much stronger bottom 6 than mcclement/colborne. we need bozak for shootouts, faceoffs, etc. and it's nice to shelter mcclement so he can spend his time on the PK and keep him fresh for when we need to shut down the other team at the end of the game.

I really like Bozak, but 5.5 million makes it the worst contract the Leafs have signed in recent memory. Seriously, if he's arguing for anything more than what JVR makes he can GTFO.

Why is everyone resigning mclaren but not Orr? Who's the guy that played all 7 playoff games as the other guy sat in the press box ?

I like Orr (and he's probably SLIGHTLY better now...)

but McClaren is a bit more quick, younger, and plays a bit more of a rounded game.

That said, they're close, and I'd love to keep them both (although we don't need them both...)

Wouldn't have kept MacArthur but with Komarov walking, it might be wise. Unless, we plan to sign a big winger like Penner, Horton or Clarkson.

Ya like ive said it before, the 5.5 is nuts but this team needs a bozak or weiss on it for at least 2 years in my opinion. Right now we have a 2c in kadri (maybe 1c in 2-3 years) a 3c in grabo (being conservative, although he might be a buyout candidate) and we have a 4 c in jmac. I am not sold on colborne in any context and this notion that "he will be better in the nhl then he is in the ahl" is kind of crap, He just started having a good season close to ppg the 2nd half of this year, and needs another 82 games in the ahl in my opinion, I mean he looked good in the 1st game he played in the playoffs, but hes not close to being a top 3 c offensively yet imo. With that view, we only have 3 actual centers going forward, now you might suggest that we take 1 from the farm team or whatever, but that makes our center depth much weaker when we move all of the centers up 1 spot on the roaster. This leaves a huge hole at 1c, and imo we need a plug there for 2 years while kadri and colborne develop. I honestly dont see a problem paying 4, max 4.5 for weiss or bozak for 2 years right now. Im not interested in the trolls saying how bad bozak is or whatever, the issue is we dont have the center depth to propel us to the next level right now without a weiss or bozak plugging it up for 2 years imo. Signing bozak for that price long term is insane, but we need a plug in that position right now. At the end of nxt year the tucker/armstrong buyouts come off the books and we jsut lost the glass mans contract this year as well.

What's the news on Fraser? Is he going to heal to 100%? Or maybe 102% with a steel plate?

broken skull's gotta suck, a bone that strong being broken is going to be troublesome for awhile id expect. Maybe by the time the summer is over it might be decent but theres not a real way to predict it imo.

Heard he's getting rebuilt into "Iron Fraser." A bit more durable but prone to hydrochloric acid and oxygen corrosion.

5.5 for Bozak is only crazy if it comes with term. I'll be alright with it on a 2 year deal. If he goes 5 years, I expect it to drop to the mid-low 4s.

With the OP's math, we are left sitting just under the cap.

This team needs to shed some serious salary if we want to fit in the winning pieces.

I'd hate to use a buy out on Komisarek because its 1 year. Maybe retain half of the salary for 1 year and send him on his way. Not sure if this is possible though.

We still have numerous roster spots to fill.

Kadri, Nazem » 2 Years @ 3.75 mil per
Colborne, Joe » 1 Year @ 1 mil per
McLaren, Frazer » 2 years @ 0.8 mil per
MacArthur, Clarke » 2 Years @ 2.2 mil per
Bozak, Tyler » Not Re-signed
Orr, Colton » Not Re-signed
Gunnarsson, Carl » 4 years @ 3.25 mil per
Franson, Cody » 4 years @ 3.25 mil per
Fraser, Mark » 2 years @ 1 mil per
O'Byrne, Ryan » Not Re-signed
Kostka, Mike » Not Re-signed

I think a lot of you will be pleasantly surprised at how little money some of these guys will get. I highly doubt that Fraser or Colborne will get significantly more than $1M as some of you are suggesting nor do I imagine Franson getting over $4M, but hey, I could be wrong.

hockeybuzz isnt all written by him, eklund is known to be full of bs, but even he is correct on occasion, the article I read wasnt written by him anyways.
