Everybody gets 2 buyouts.

Besides, we'll probably dangle Briere on the trade front before we buy him out.

As far as Read for Bernier?

I'm still skeptical we should pay that much. I think Read's a little too steep, but most Flyers fans seem to be on board.

Each team gets 2 compliance buyouts.

I'd rather keep Read until we see how Mason does as the starter.

That's 21.09m in space.

im thinking something else is getting dealt for a pick including the buyouts of Bryz and Briere. If that happens I can also see Read for Bernier going down as well.

I like it. $6mil would be a lot, but if that means we can keep our younger players, I'm fine with it.

This is a good short term solution for out need for a PMD. He can play 20+ minutes a night, which will give Kimmo a break. And he's another vet that can provide leadership and mentoring to younger players.

I think he rounds out about 5.5m/year over 3 years.

I'm okay with that. It sucks, it's 35+, and all the other stuff. But we'll get over that when we have two legitimate PMDs on our defense without losing Couturier, Laughton, Schenn, voracek, Simmonds, or our 1st.

Every team has two amnesty buyouts, which can be used until the start off the 15/16 season.

I'd be interested in a Read-Bernier swap.

Last deal had 2 buyouts in it, not sure if you can use them the same year, but I'd assume so.

Streit isn't a first pairing defender but he's a great 2nd pairing puckmover. Former captain on NYI too, so he'll bring some leadership into the room. 3 years, $5mil+ is kinda pricey but he's a solid, solid PMD.

OUT: Briere, Bryzgalov, Meszaros/xxx = $15mil
IN: Streit = $5mil+ ...

Meszaros or Grossmann or even Coburn is probably on the way out... and then we have a very cheap 6th defender in Gustafsson who is ready for full-time NHL duty and he'll perform very well IMO.

This signing seems like a Timonen replacement a year earlier which is nice, but they better hope that guys like Schenn and Gustafsson can replacement Timonen defensively because Streit sure won't. Solid PMD though, which is what most people wanted, right? That and a reliable goaltender...

You gotta believe Meszaros is the odd man out on our blueline.

The organization has always liked Coburn, as do I, and some hot-headed forum posters after a down year are not going to sully the organization's opinion of Coburn.

Grossmann has also done everything asked of him since coming in. Despite his concussion, he won't be leaving. In fact, the 3rd pairing will shelter his rehab a bit, and allow him to play with Sweden's newest hero, Erik Gustafsson.

This also allows us to draft someone like Ristolainen, let him develop, and continue to watch Gostisbehere.

And it's only 3 years. Which is a fine stopgap. Also, if someone we draft this month or someone in the system (Ghost) can be up before those 3 years are over, we could always trade Streit (if he doesn't suck). Plus, wasn't it mentioned, or hinted at, that the cap may go back up to 70M after next season?

The Flyers can use both buyouts this summer.

Yup. The only player of value who might not be able to be resigned because of this Matt Read. And Matt Read at anything over $4 million would be a waste anyway IMO.

Doubt it goes back up to 70m, but it will start inching up. 67m is not out of the question.

Cap is tied to the revenues, so it's not unthinkable for it to go up that much

If paying him 6 million means that we buy out bryz, then give him 6.5 as a bonus and a thank you haha

Seriously though, i wouldn't mind 5-5.5 million a year for 4 years, or even 6 for 3. Is that an overpayment? yes, but what FA doesn't get overpaid? That's part of life. Makes our team better, than I am happy.

He will play 3 more years, and when we lose kimmo, we will be desperate for someone who can handle the puck.

Buy bryz out and give him Bryz's money. Easy.

Definitely. Other guys would hold more value though, although they'd be harder to replace. I'm a big Coburn fan though and wouldn't like to see that.

Timonen, Streit, Schenn, Coburn, Gustafsson & Grossmann. That's a solid, solid defense if everything works out and the young guys continue to develop and nobody's play takes another nosedive (...Coburn).

All I'm hoping now is that the Flyers keep Couturier and Schenn and Laughton and don't overpay for a defender, as good as I think Yandle and the other rumoured names are. I'd take Bernier for Read though, 9 times out of 10. Unlikely we can retain Read for a reasonable salary and I'd like to get bigger on the wings, too. Losing his speed would hurt though.

I don't think moving Mez will be too hard. His cap hit is pretty reasonable and he only has 1 year left on his deal. If he can get healthy and pass a physical, I think a lot of teams would be interested.

Watch him catch a puck in the eye on debut.

He wants 6 a year for 4 years. That means he'll get ~5.25 a year for 3.

If we can get anything of value I'd be surprised. I would be keen to move him just for the space.

Heh. I was going to post a similar Streit/Strait correction.

Decent move, as long as he signs a relatively short and friendly contract.

If he doesn't sign and he isn't moved again before free agency, at least they dumped a contract spot in a guy who may never crack the NHL (Harper).

Well when Dallas gives Sergei Gonchar 5M per, it's hard to suggest he isn't capable of pulling it on the open market.

Dreger is saying he wants 4 years, so hopefully something in the 3 year 15M range can get it done otherwise gotta hope their smart enough to just walk away (yeah right).
