Take Myers out and it still has the same value

Myers is a young top-4 D with top-2 potential. I don't know what you're getting at...

If I'm the Avs, I don't accept anything less than 8 + 16 + Grigorenko + Myers.

That's overpayment, but that's what it takes to pry away a #1 overall pick. And if Buffalo is getting Mackinnon, it will cost a ransom.

Keep in mind, Tyler Myers does not have his 2010 value anymore, he is currently making $5.5 mil till 2019 and not nearly living up to that value.

Also, Grigorenko is not a top 3 prospect in last year's draft like some seem to think, he dropped to 11 for a reason, and his development was handled terribly this year. He still holds high value, but more like a #14/15 pick in this year's draft. He is just below the Domi/Horvat/Shinkaruk range if he was in this year's draft.

Well Quebec traded Eric Lindros before he played in the NHL. Almost the same thing.

This will end similarly to when Buffalo wanted to sign Richards or when we offered Parise and Suter $100 million each.

Not that I know of but the Sedin situation was pretty close.

They easily have the best assets of the teams rumored to be interested.

#8 + #16 + Myers + Grigorenko

That's good enough for me. Some Sabres fans were at one point willing to do more then that. And Some Avs fans were wanting more then that.
This is funny.

8th would have to be included, i assume.
myers would have to be included, i assume.

beyond that, i'm not sure. Is 8th + Myers enough? Probably not.
is 8th + Myers + Grigorenko too much? Possibly.

My god the Tyler Myers hate on these boards is ridiculous. At worst he's still a top 4 defenseman. At best he's a legitimate #1 and one of the more unique defenders in the league, with his size and skating. And in either scenario, he's 23 with plenty of room left to improve more.

All true.

But like I said above, he is signed at $5.5 mil until 2019. If he doesn't become a legit top pairing guy, that's an overpaid 2nd pairing guy to have in your lineup. That's definitely a gamble for any GM to take on.

That said, I'm not sure I'd make that deal, just spitballing. I like the depth of our prospect pool and the idea of just adding more fuel to the fire (ie: just using all 4 of our 1st and 2nd rounders without any movement). If we're moving Vanek and Miller anyway, we'll suck plenty enough next year or few to get our top picks without needing to give away any of our valuable young players.
Next year's draft doesn't look to be nearly as strong though. Ekblad looks great, but then you are looking at Nyquist and Reinhart as the 2nd and 3rd best prospects. There is still time of course, but I'm not sure either of those kids will be on the same level as Monahan. IMO, that's why it's imperative to come out of this draft with a great player.

Oh yeah, there is definitely a segment of the fanbase that is ready for sucking full on next year. And we figure if we're going to be that bad and start from scratch, Mackinnon is a good reset button.

If this ends up happening (and I seriously doubt it does) I don't see grigorenko or hodgson being involved.

And that's because if they get to #1, I think they take Drouin.

Devine flat out said that it would either be Mackinnon or Jones.

Myers + 8th + small piece is the max I would pay.

No reason to gut out our farm for one player, no matter the skill level. I really hope these reports aren't true.

Buffalo 2013 1st Round Pick + Minnesota 2013 1st Round Pick + Joel Armia + Tyler Myers

Should do it.

It also makes sense to me unlike some deals where people expect the world. Two firsts a top prospect and a decent player.
