--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just got my issue and "The Hockey News" rated a little differently then say Redline and some of the mocks I've seen on this board. Actually, the Devils might be better off staying with their last draft position at #22, with some of the players THN has available at 21 through 25 respectively: Jakub Kindl, Brian Lee, Matt Lashoff, Kenndal Mcardle and Ryan Stoa. However, if we are lucky to move up to 2 to 6, the kid Kopitar seems like a stud I might consider taking over a Pouliot, Johnson, Brule or Ryan.

THN - Top 50:

1. S. Crosby
2. B. Pouliot
3. J. Johnson
4. G. Brule
5. B. Ryan
6. A. Kopitar
7. C. Price
8. J. Skille
9. M. Staal
10. Alex Bourret
11. R. Parent
12. L. Bourdon
13. Martin Hanzal
14. G. Latendresse
15. Niklas Bergfors
16. Ryan O'Marra
17. D. Setoguchi
18. Mark Zagrapan
20. Tuukka Rask
21. J. Kindl
22. Brian Lee
23. M. Lashoff
24. K. Mcardle
25. R. Stoa
26. B. Mikkelson
27. Radek Smolenak
28. C. Durand
29. Risto Korhonen
30. Tomas Pospisil
31. Sasha Pokulok
32. Dustin Kohn
33. Ilya Zubov
34. Jeff Frazee
35. Jakub Vojta
36. Andrei Zubarev
37. Denis Istomin
38. Andrew Cogliano
39. Michael Blunden
40. Mikko Lehtonen
41. Sergei Shirokov
42. James Neal
43. Chris Lawrence
44. Jean-Philippe Levasseur
45. Tomas Kudelka
46. Dan Bertram
47. Viacheslav Buravchikov
48. Alexandre Vincent
49. Vitaly Anikeyenko
50. Justin Abdelkader

from the devils board.
I wonder who will be a leaf?

An exciting question. I love draft time. But I refuse to allow myself to get hopeful again until this labour situation is solved.

I'd be happy picking anywhere in the Top 20.

Anywhere in the first round would be uncommon.

I'd love to have Crosby, but seriously, what's the big deal ...I heard a better comparison for Crosby that he is more in the mould of a Peter Forsberg, which is quite good, but please he's no Gretzky/Lemieux ...he may not even be an Ovetchkin/Heatly/Nash/etc

We've kept it more often than not the last 15 years, actually. It was traded in 91(ugh...),96, 97, 03, and 04. We've kept it 10 times.

In 93 we actually had 2 first rounders! Imagine that...

I do agree, although my wife is Portuguese and we were in Florence when Portugal lost to Greece (what a shame ...even though i had Greece in my pool with my 2nd pick, 1st pick being Italy)
...and we got a ticket while in Venice when she was wearing her Figo jersey. hehe

Nope, not even close... I think Daigle had much better, heck even Yanick Perrault had better junior stats. Crosby is 75% talent 25% Hype

I agree, I think there is a consensus top 20 that is very talented, after that there appears to be a drop off, still full of talent, but not nearly as much as the top 20.

I'm not sure how you arrive at your percentages, but Crosby is a much better prospect than Daigle and certainly better than Perrault.

You can't simply look at straight numbers. Compare Crosby to his peers in the league this year and see how he has dominated compared to others in the past. I think you will see that it has been a long time since any under-18 player has led the league in scoring by such a wide margin.

dont get me wrong, i think he's quite good, but i don't think he's a great as made out ...he just happens to be the best "Canadian" prospect in a while. ...if he was european or american, he wouldnt be getting 1/2 the hype he is.

I remember the hype that Daigle was getting and he was getting Lemieux comparisons so nobody can say that he wasnt a 'great prospect' ...facts show he was a HUGE bust, but at the time, the top prospect in the world.
...here is Perault's last juniors stats, although he was NOT considered a good prospect because he is a below average skater, but he outscored Lindros that year.
1990-91 TROI, QMJHL 67 87 98 185 103

...Lindros was a much better prospect at the same age than Crosby.

Watching him play, the Forsberg comparison is the best one I've heard. He doesn't look like either Gretz or Lemieux in the least, and certainly not like Daigle.

Niklas Bergfors
Ryan O'Marra
D. Setoguchi
Mark Zagrapan

If Leafs can pick up one of these 4 guys. I would be extremely happy. Bergfors and Zagrapan have the most potential while O'Marra and Detoguchi are more of safer picks.
