Winnipeg - Edmonton

To
Sam Gagner + Ales Hemsky + Nick Schultz

To
Alex Burmistrov + Dustin Byfuglien

If there's any coach who can extract the full potential from a struggling Burmistrov, to play with Yakupov, and an uncommitted Byfuglien, it's Dallas Eakins.

Jets get established top 6 talent as well as a veteran, left handed shutdown defenseman in Nick Schultz.

Two question marks for Gagner?

Even if one's Big Buff, hell no. The guy'll just be a rehash of Dustin Penner. MacT knows better.

I wouldn't trade Burmi for Hemsky and I wouldn't do Buff for Gagner and Schultz. I think if both sides added their first it would be a fair deal, but I don't see True North being that interested in Hemsky AND Gagner.I could see them going after one, but not both together.

Seriously?

If anything Hemsky is a question mark, the question being can he stay healthy. Penner and Buff are not comparable, come on. Except that they probably for both shut down an IHOP on a Tuesday night.

Seriously.

Sam Gagner is a heart-and-soul player that would be greatly missed. And despite the fact that he's thrown in literally every proposal involving Edmonton, he's highly respected and the GM himself has said it's his highest priority to get him resigned long-term.

And moving 3 NHL regulars and replacing them with an enigmatic D/F hybrid with fitness issues and a forward that hasn't figured it out yet would be a massive step back in Edmonton's rebuild.

Yes Buff's got value. I won't argue that. But Edmonton doesn't need him enough to pay it.

And yes, Hemsky's an injury risk. So move him for Meszaros, another injury risk.

Done and done.

Not a chance.

Oilers can try and peddle there wares elsewhere. Jets can definitely get way more than damaged products for that package.

1: I like Buff a lot.
2: I don't think the Jets have any interest in this move because Schultz and Hemsky aren't likely the kind of players the Jets fans are hoping will put them over the top to get them into the playoffs.
3: I don't want to see Edmonton make this deal because it leaves them with a huge hole at center.

Jets turn this down flat and it aint even close. Hemsky is a joke, Schultz is a borderline NHLers. So the deal is Gagner for Byfuglien and Burmistrov

I like Hemsky, but the dude is just made of glass. Hard to get fair "cap value" in this era with a guy who won't always play that many games.

Vaguely interested in Schultz, but Hemsky is worse than Wheeler to us, Gagner is nice but Little is a better defensive player so no thanks.

It's awfully one sided. The proposal is from an Oilers fan.

funny thing is that 302 pound dmen who get healthy scratched are not as valuable as you might think. Not sure if that is worth the 7th leading scorer (centres) in the wetern conference (age 22).

edit - regardless of value, there is zero chance that mact and eakin have interest in buff. He is the exact opposite of everything they stand for. This is a useless thread.

Good we have an understanding

Edmonton can keep their 7th leading scorer amungst centers in the western conference, and the Jets will keep their 9th leading scorer amungst defenceman in the entire NHL

This is a no from EDM

Buf has fitness issues, could see him struggling under Eakins. Burmistrov just hasn't found his game yet that's a big step back at centre for EDM.

Gagner is a priority for edm.

Oilers have won alot of games with Gagner.
Gagner is tough as nails and physical.
Gagner is off the charts IQ wise.
Gagner defensively is second to no one and his Size intimidates opponents
Gagner plus/minus is among the best in the league
Offensive stats do not measure a players value

here is a list of NHL centres who outscored Gagner and were younger than him : Tavares, Kadri

Honestly I can't see a team that will be committed to diet and fitness going after Byfuglien. He just isn't committed enough.

I guess if Eakins could get Byfuglien to improve his fitness then he could become a very solid player, but a lot of that has to do with the player's internal drive

It is easy to harp on Big Buff's weight. Yet he still played 24+ minutes a night and finished top 10 in scoring for defensemen.

as an oiler fan, we can relate to the frustration of an overweight player. We have one of our own - Theo Peckham.

Two years ago, he was a promising young dman. A big bruiser who had almost average skill / skating ability. Since then, he has completely lost it. He has shown up to two straight training camps out of shape.

The org was so pissed that he got into 4 games last year. We healthy scratched him for the rest. Eakins is even more fitness orientated than Kruger so it is almost a certainty that Theo has played his last game for us. Too bad as he is a good kid and has a lot of potential.

If Buff is as out of shape as reports claim, he will soon be almost untradable.

I'm not saying that he's a bad player at all.

It's just that our new coach said that he's committed to a very high level of fitness and that it's non-negotiable. I just can't see Byfuglien fitting into that mold
