Hemsky to WPG

There's been some talk on the Jets side about Hemsky being a viable option to fill in on Kane's RW. How about something based around:

To Winnipeg:
Ales Hemsky

To Edmonton:
Paul Postma

Edmonton gets a young, offensive D (who lets face it, will never get a real shot the way Winnipeg's right side is stacked up). And Winnipeg gets Hemsky who may be able to fill in on the 2nd RW spot.

Thoughts?

From a Jets perspective, I think this proposal is pretty close. I might rate Postma's value slightly higher, due to his age and RFA status, compared to Hemsky being a UFA in 1 year.

As a jets fan, I do it, but Oilers fans are gonna say that they have enough 3-4-5th d propsects and they need a bonafide top guy.

Postma doesn't have much hope of moving any higher on the Oilers' RD depth chart than he does in WPG. But I guess that all depends on how early Trouba is able to make the jump to the NHL full time, and/or if they ever intend to use Byfuglien as a forward. Petry and Schultz are both young and

I like Postma's game, and would consider him a clear upgrade on Cory Potter, but I don't know if he's quite worth Hemsky in a trade. I'd definitely be interested in the Oilers bringing in Postma though (of course, Plan A should be for someone a little higher on the depth chart).

Hemsky has been on a 40 point pace the last two seasons. For someone with huge injury concerns and a 5m dollar salary that's just not good enough. Unless Edmonton retains salary Hemsky has no value. If no one wanted Jussi Jokinen for free at 3m why would anyone want Hemsky at 5? Jokinen has been better offensively the past two seasons.

I would rather use Hemsky to get a good 3rd line player than a bottom pairing dman. We are hurting in the bottom 6 so I would use Hemsky to upgrade that area. I do believe that Hemsky would be a nice fit in Winnipeg though, last time I was there I chatted about that with my friends

Chris Thorburn? (4th liner not 3rd liner though).

Why are people just offering players that are probably worse than our bottom 6 right now for someone who would be their best or possibly second best RW?

I'd have no problem with bringing Hemsky in for a year if the price is Postma. If he doesn't pan out just let him walk. Postma is an asset but he's going to be redundant from the day Trouba hits the ice AFAIC

No more bottom pairing defencemen. Solid bottom 6 veterans (but not too old) or second pairing defencemen is what we'd want for Hemsky. If not that, then a 2nd round pick will be fine.

No thanks. I hope Mac-T is looking for someone who brings a bit more of an impact to the lineup.

Because Hemsky is a band-aid that makes $5m/yr

How about Hemsky+Horcoff ($2M salary retained) for Burmistrov? Too little, about right?

Fact is...Hemsky is not worth that. Jokinen went down through waivers and nobody claimed him, what would make you think that you could get a 2nd round draft pick in a deep draft for Hemsky who is made of glass.

Right now, he has very little value and you won't get a whole hell of alot for him. Or Horcoff for that matter.

Is that $14 million in salary coming back + 2 years for Horcoff? Not a chance!

I am one that thinks Hemsky would possibly be a fit on the Jets, but I wouldn't move Stuart and Wright for him. Stuart isn't amazing, but he fills a role, plays LHD (which we don't have a lot of), and wears a letter.

No chance in hell I would move Burmistrov for Hemsky and Horcoff. Age, along with contracts (term and $) make this an easy no from Winnipeg (even with $ retained).

Hemsky makes sense to the Jets if the cost to acquire is low. If the cost to acquire is high, along with his 5 million dollar cap hit I would say there isn't a match.

Horcoff is a buyout candidate and hemsky cannot stay healthy enough to justify his caphit I would not even contemplate trading burmi for those 2

I don't see a deal here. Postma doesn't do much for us, I would prefer a stay at home guy to play with J Schultz. Obviously that will cost more than Hemsky, but we'll worry about that when the deal presents itself.

As for Hemsky, I liked the Sens proposal in another thread where it was Hemsky + 2014 3rd for Zack Smith. Fits our current needs much better.

Ah yes. The opinion of the usual uniformed. Hemsky has plenty of value with the Gm's in the league as they have actually watched him play. Wait and see. The Oil will get a decent return for Hemmer. He is still one of the most dynamic players in the league and was having a great year until he broke his foot blocking a shot.

Hemsky is only 1 year away from UFA (he is a pretty good player)....If we want him just wait a year and make a run at him....Why give up a prospect who will admittedly prob top out at a #5 def who can play on the 2nd power play unit for a 1 year rental?????? Don't see TN doing this IMO

Truth be told, I was interested in Hemsky about 2 years ago. Not so much anymore.
