Here's why Bickell could be more valuable than Boyle: You can play Bickell on the top line and he can be a complimentary player. You cannot play Boyle on the top line and have it help the team.

Stats:
Boyle: 309 regular season NHL games - 46 goals and 82 points.
Bickell: 220 regular season NHL games - 40 goals and 90 points.

Bickell is more productive.

I'm not saying I want to acquire Bickell but if I could add one to the Rangers roster - at the same salary/contract - it would be Bickell.
You have to go back a long time to get 309 for Boyle. In the past 3 seasons his scoring pace is right there with Bickell.

And he was on the ice for everyone of the Rangers PP goals in the playoffs. For whatever that's worth...

The fact that the comparison of Boyle and Bickell is even a conversation is all that needs to be said for what Bickell will get on the open market.

Gasutad got 3.2. Bickel will get 3.5-4.5.

not sure about David Perron. Blues fans complain about him a lot, and from what I've seen he's a serious puck hog. Hockey smart yes but he's got a bit of an ego. Blues might not give him up either, they need all the offensive help they could get. But it'd be for it if we get him for a good price

I'd welcome someone who can control the puck long enough to be considered a puck hog.

We definitely need more players who are good at protecting the puck, and Perron fits the bill. He's strong on his skates too. If the Rangers want to play more of a puck possession game, Perron would be an interesting target.

If Hank is the only reason for our success then that is even more reason not to keep him around and kill our cap. Having one player, who is going into his 30's, kill 14% of your cap space is a disaster for a team that may have no business thinking they have a chance for a cup for the next 8 years.

Boston has a very similar gameplan as the Rangers - they just have better players that make better plays in critical areas of the ice. Thats really it in a nutshell.

Not to mention they have much more intensity - something that was there last season and lacking this season.

Perron can play either wing, is a RH shot, and can create offense with the puck on his stick. Can he be a puck hog at times? Sure, but it's something that can be worked on. We need creative players up front who can put the puck in the net. He's one of them. Sure, he won't fit the bill for the "moar size!" crowd, but he's certainly ultra talented.

well, with the exception that they don't spend 99% of their time trying to block shots, they are a LOT more aggressive in the defensive zone. other than that, i'll agree whole heartedly.

I have wanted Pyatt gone for a long time. LOOOOONG time.

Nash is a needed element in order to compete for a Stanley Cup.

Granted so is a good goalie, but my argument is that you do not need a GREAT goalie to win cups.

The Wings have shown that with Howard. Pitt with Fleury, Carolina with Ward the list goes on and on.

We could turn out to be the Buffalo Sabres when they had Hasek. Well, seems like we are already there.

Now, I would be PO'd if it were us that gave Nash his contract, however, with all of the crap he gets, he was on pace for his 2nd best statistical season and 3rd best goal scoring season of his career. He delivered on what was expected out of him in the reg. season. The PO's are a different story and I think he disappointed there.

Teams, many teams have won cups where your depth was the overriding factor, not the guy in nets.

the consensus among some STL fans is in return for Perron they want a center, an NHL proven one. We can't really offer that.

The moment we signed him.

Plus this season has felt like it was 8 months long.

Many teams have won Cups with great goaltending as well. Rask has been phenomenal so far. Same with Crawford.

The differenece is, those guys are good and have gotten hot. Hank is almost always like that. He steals games.

Did you try to give them Richards against their will?

No, but we could acquire one. Del Zotto to Winnipeg for Burmistrov+, then Burmistrov package to St Louis for Perron. Just an outside the box suggestion, not saying I'd do it. I think we ought to get a good package for Del Zotto outright.

Not enough of them.

Not his fault. Not blaming him.

But the point I get friom what you are saying (and one I share) is that a good goalie getting hot is just as likely to win as is a great goalie playing great.

Looking at the last 10 cup winners, there are alot of good goalies winning the cup.

The last truly great goalies to win the cup were back in 01-02 (Hasek) and 02-03 (Broduer)

We have had a plethora of good goalies win the cup.

I would only wish that fate upon Washington and New Jersey fans.

Definitely not St. Louis fans.

Something like Del Zotto for Burmistrov+, and then flipping Burmi for a winger, makes some sense. Sather's gotta be creative this offseason on the trade market.

Quick is paid like a great goalie. So is Howard now. Rask will be paid like that.

Let's take the flip side of this argument.

How many teams with lackluster goaltending don't even make the playoffs?

PHX without Smith?
TB?
CAR without Ward?
EDM?
