I was hoping to get off of work and see a new update that he was at home asleep this entire time and no one checked his bed or something

If he's missing still, it's just a matter of time until we get the tragic news. Sad day for the Oilers and Hockey in general. Pelss is one of our top prospects. Was looking forward to him alot.

Wow, taken before his time with what seems like something completely preventable. Pretty tragic for the Pelss family.

Hopefully he ran off with a girl for a couple days or something, I don't want this to be true. Too young.

Hrm... it's weird, apparently this is the bridge he jumped from: http://goo.gl/maps/7wVsX

Doesn't seem that dangerous, but I guess it's still most likely at this point that he drowned? Looking at that I guess you could hold out hope he's okay and it's something else at play, although the original Latvian article seems to state "it's confirmed" even though they never found the body.

So there's still hope, just not too promising. Very tragic if this turns out for the worst. You never know when your time is up, but this seems far too early under such strange circumstances.

Although the bridge deck doesn't look that high up I would imagine its over a 30ft or 10M drop. Whoever was witnessed jumping did so in the middle of the night when theres some lighting on bridge but pretty dark on river. I doubt the river is deep. Its very wide, but probably not a lot deeper than North Saskatchewan. If he dove head first that would be a huge problem. Especially if the bridge has built up rock support or massing near the concrete pilings. Its an older bridge construction so it could very well have that just below the surface. Or accumulated sediment and sandbar near the bridge pilings.

Deeply saddened by this as it does not look good at the moment, but hoping that it takes a more positive turn.

Fingers crossed that this is all just hallucination or politburo lie.

What a tragedy and a shame if these reports are true. He seemed like such a nice, bright young man, and that he had such a promising future.

Rivers are really bad for under currents that can suck you under. Why you don't swim in large rivers.

Daugava is around 6-8 metres deep in Riga. The bridge is also not that terribly old - it was built in 1950's.

Thanks, have you heard anything new? It's hard to follow when all that you have is poorly translated articles.

Yeah, police announced that there are no new updates a few hours ago..

The thing that bugs me is whether they have managed to show the belongings to the Pelss family yet, because yesterday they hadn't done that.

With regards to the person who jumped off the bridge, it is rather unlikely that they will ever find the body, as the Gulf of Riga is only like 5 km away from the bridge, so realistically the stream has taken the body to the sea.
