Undertaker: "If I didn't work Wrestlemania, I'd feel I was letting Vince down"

Quote:
- The Undertaker recently did an interview with The Houston Chronicle to promote SpurRaffle.com. Taker was asked why he continues to wrestle despite his injury history. He said:

"Honestly, I love it, that’s why. I’ve got 26 years in the business and all these injuries, but WrestleMania has become so huge, it’s just hard to walk away from it. I want the audience leaving the stadium going ‘Wow!’ It’s a responsibility I have being a top dog in this business. The crowd will let me know when it’s time to leave. They haven’t yet."

Taker also hinted at feeling a sense of obligation to work WWE’s biggest pay-per-view of the year.

"If I didn’t perform at WrestleMania, in some strange weird way, I’d feel like I was letting Vince McMahon down."

Undertaker notes that his down time is spent healing up, spending time with family and working on his "horrible golf game."

I'm amazed at how The Undertaker, despite everything he's been through injury-wise, can continue looking like a 30-35 year old at Wrestlemania and consistently put on a classic match.

It's weird cuz every year people always say he looks old, fat, or just horrible in general...yet his Wrestlemania contests have been consistently excellent the last half dozen years.

I'm sure the huge Wrestlemania payday and the fact he only "works" a few times a year has nothing to do with why he keeps coming back.

And then when he gets a life threatening injury, he'll say "Vince made me do it"

I am guilty of saying there is no way in hell his HIAC match w/ HHH or his match w/ Punk could live up to the hype of his Streak. Wow was I wrong. Every match is so damn good. His match alone is worth the 75 dollar price of WM. It's just a tremendous thing I'll be able to tell my kids about if wrestling is still around then.

As long as he performs, I'll be interested. It's good to just sit back like a child and love it.

Agree on both. I was excited about those matches but still very skeptical. Undertaker/Punk just ripped the house down. It's a shame HHH/Lesnar and Rock/Cena had to go on after that, cuz nobody in the crowd had anything left in their tank to properly get into the other main events.

Honestly, I find that it's been that way for at least the last several WrestleManias.

The Undertaker match is more often than not the best match of the night, and everything that comes after it just pales in comparison.

Might have something to do with not being home 340 days a year as opposed to being on the road 340 days a year.

Of course it does. Undertaker wasn't putting on these great matches when he was working full-time. In fact, he was having a lot of pretty bad matches. He seems to only be motivated at Wrestlemania.

I think WM is 64.99 in HD in the Boston area, or 54.99 in standard.

Considering Taker was on the road since the late 80's and only taking periodic breaks (late 1999-early 2000), I don't blame him.

Undertaker has only been having one match a year and working one month a year for how long now?

This year alone he worked four matches within a span of two months.

Before that, though, going back to WM27. So 27, 28 are the years he's only worked one match a year.

Was Undertaker going to attack HBK or something? Cornette seems to come across as though he is exaggerating.

Not true at all. Taker headlined every PPV and was putting 4/5 star matches each and every time.

He's the greatest of all time and it ain't even close. Don't disrespect Taker.

The story is that Vince pulled Taker, HBK and Austin into his office at the event and gave them a rundown of the direction of the product. HBK was against putting Austin over for the title, to which 'Taker pretty much said, while taping his fists, that if Shawn didn't do the job, it'd be a long night for him. Shawn did the job and the rest is history.

It was mentioned in an interview 'Taker did with Off The Record in either 2002 or 2003.

Picturing Undertaker playing golf amuses me. Imagining him wearing golf pants and such.
